Sutherland in 1963 was the greatest soprano the modern age had yet seen. Her equal has yet to emerge. What a technical miracle. What a delight to see her as a young woman--fresh, happy, and in exquisite vocal health.
My Lord, there were some truly timeless singing artists back then. What the hell happened? And we don’t have tv like this anymore. Thank heavens for these lasting records!
It's such happiness, to see and hear such an extremely rare record! The performance of The Last Rose of Summer, accompanied by an orchestra, is simply a delight! I am infinitely grateful 2 u !!!
I was just reading Joan Sutherland's autobiography and she mentioned singing on this show! I heard her many times in opera and concert... What a find!!!
A gem from a bygone era. Joan sings as splendid as ever, although I burst out laughing from Last Rose of Summer - her English is just as incomprehensible as all her other languages!
Honestly it’s worse when she’s singing English, (That happens a lot with native English speakers) but the sheer force field of sound the she puts out is and always will be astounding. To be in the audience for this show lols
@@LaDivinaLover Her french pronunciation is something too ! It's possible to guess one word or one syllabe from time to time... No matter, for me it's impossible not to love her.
As an opera fan I should be rooting for Joan in this but Ella Fitzgerald just brings a tear to my eyes. Her voice is like velvet and silk. Such a beautiful singer.
I think the overarching point is that being a fan of good music we can enjoy all of the songs and arias here. This is how you mix popular music and opera properly
@@LocutusBorgOf I worked with a (classical) voice teacher who said that if you ever had to sing jazz, you needed to listen to Ella until you got sick of her. And if you ever actually got sick of her, you should get out of the music business!
I agree with. Sutherland never brought tears to my eyes - but I was taken by her amazing legato - notes floating through the air. What control! Often she gets the label "coloratura soprano". Oh yes, she knew how to do all the fioritura that goes with it. But listen to the Irish song and see how softly she could shape the melodies. But tears, not for me. - Whereas Ella - she is so emotional, she can easily stir up my feelings. - Both are marvellous.
The most incredible and impressive thing about Ms. Sutherland was not her stunning ability, which has never been surpassed, but the fact that her interpretation is TRULY artistic. Traviata should be this way: delicate, natural, effortless, elegant, brilliant, and stylistically "sincere," and convincing. Her singing was as natural as if she was speaking.
This just came up again. I obviously had forgotten the Traviata Was that n this show. To tell you the truth, I had forgotten I had seen the whole show and this might have been near the beginning of me finding your channel. It is a great game for me figuring out how you might come by all this glorious history. Thank you. 🙏🏼👋❤️
Imagine trusting a TV primetime audience to 'cope' with high-level singing in a 'foreign' language and expect them to stay engaged ? But in the days of few channels, all of us expected to encounter unfamiliar things and pay polite or enthusiastic attention, according to our tastes.

Yes but I can actually understand Anna Moffo
@@danarzechula3769 Who...
Moffo or Sutherland, great artists on TV. Nothing like that today. Plenty of profane rap, though, ain't there?

Astonishing and rare ! Dame Joan Wonderlungs socks it to TV. FANTASTIC.
Joan tossed off this show between her fifth and sixth "Sonnambulas" at the MET, singing with the top ladies in two other genres.
Joan the opera star, dinah the pop star, and ella the jazz star ❤️

The fir time seeing the whole program. Thank you
Joan Sutherland, with her Violeta, elevated the Dinah Shore show to the stratospheres.
OMG! How awesome how this has been.

I am THRILLED to finally be able to see this in its entirety!
Fabuleux Fantastique Wonderfull thank you Edward Arckless .
Thank you for posting,,,,,great show in it’s entirety
And Joan at her Golden Age best.
this is a great iconic moment in our culture and history.... it got five thousand views... what's wrong with the world?
Two of my favorite singers, on the same show....Miss Ella and Miss Joanie! And it's so funny when they bring the mic over to the other ladies!
Wonderful.
Wonderful historical momento
Brilliant ! What fun. Thanks for sharing this.
I think that Dinah Shore was a natural charmer...
I think this is proof that Joan’s voice didn’t thin out on the upper register. That bit in “Lover Come Back to Me” was amazing.
Sound barrier breaking high notes!
Oh to only be in the audience on that day!

Obrigado Vinicius. Só hoje que vi esta maravilha. Adorei o G & Sullivan e a Tosca. Grato.
Dinah Shore! The greatest singer in the world!

" JOAN is busting out all over ! ".
Sorry Rogers and Hammerstein.
Wrong song for Shore.
Can someone colorize this video please...
