My family and I went to this place last year. We spent 100,000 yen in "souviners" at that place. It was nice to visit in August and escape the heat of Tokyo, although it was almost impossible to find a hotel in Hokkaido at that time. Didn't go to the pond / river although went to a similar place just west of Todai. Really should provide some context of what we are seeing, either voice or subtitles. I've been thinking of doing something similar to what you're doing. So often foreign tourists just go to the really well-known sites like Kyoto, Mt. Fuji and certain places in Tokyo.
