At one point, I wanted to cull some games. However, after thinking about it for several days, I decided to keep them all. Space is tight but I make it work. Then my wife tells me she’s getting me Oathsworn for Christmas (she wanted to make sure I’d love it so she spoiled the surprise). Well, so much for making the space work. Since I truly enjoy my collection, I’m afraid I’d regret letting go of any of my games. Still, space is limited so I completely understand your pain.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer Texas... Wyoming... Idaho... Lol, I guess its pretty fair to call you a conservative! Nice video btw. I lost a lot of games I had as a kid, mostly Avalon Hill, in a basement flood, but I've never given any games away. I might have to start thinking about it though as space starts to become a premium as my collection approaches 200 games.
I can’t wait for you to receive xia and it’s expansions. They really do make a fine game into an amazing one! Embers adds sooo much without adding much overhead and the missions and powers is a must have in my opinion also. Thanks for the fun list!
I was about to sell Five Tribes... it is SO good, but just hasn't made it to the table in a long while. I think you talked me off the ledge. I DID ditch Last Night on Earth a few years ago (due to the roll and move and "cheesy" design), BUT for some reason, I think I miss it. It's had a certain charm to it.
I got a copy of Freedom, brand new, 3 months ago but still haven't got it to table. If you like the zombie game in your list, your should grab the Mars Attacks-esque sequel. Tighter rules and really fab.
I'm a bit fortunate in that I've been able to reacquire my biggest regrets: Up Front (Avalon Hill) and D-Day Dice 1st Edition (Valley Games). My desire to reacquire Up Front caused me to lose $125 in the infamous Kickstarter that ripped off a bunch of people, but Wargame Vault eventually found some way to reprint it. I reacquired D-Day Dice as a much better 2nd Edition. If you ever do a Top 10 Games Where I Had to Do the Most Work to Gather All the Expansions, then D-Day Dice will also make that list.
Hearing about what happened with Freedom: TUR was heartbreaking. That one's been on my grail games list for a while, and hope is dwindling. Just finished a big purge (which actually also included dropping Last Night on Earth). No regrets yet. I was shocked at Five Tribes on your list. Didn't peg that one for a game you'd enjoy. Will wonders never cease.
I enjoyed your list... though not a collector for collecting's sake... I have a hard time parting with games. I have probably traded less than 5 games over fifty years... most of those in the early days when space was an issue. They were all Avalon Hill classics... and there is only 1 I regret... Origins of World War II. I traded it because there was no way it was ever going to get played. A multi-player game using snail mail was a non-starter.
Sometimes games go away ... no need for regrets tho .. just buy them AGAIN! ... and again! ... and again .... Often they comes back in better versions. For instance, New edition of Wings for the Baron is in the works at GMT! (yes, I realize Cody is talking about games he didn't buy, this thought applies to the other 99.9% ... but most of all ... myself.)
The one off the top of my head is my All in pledge from Galaxy Defenders. I got some really nice celebrity autographs though, included one for DeForest Kelley. Still miss it being the closest thing I know in board game form to X-Com for me. To save space I did keep our Freedom The Underground Railroad, but I broke up the box and have the components stored in a Bit Box along with some other games. I miss having the box for that one though.
The only games I have played and own are #5 to #3. Last Night on Earth I enjoy and thats why I did not get into Zombiecide Game. Which may be a better game. Napoleon in Europe like you I have and The American Civil War game. I also have the Age of Imperialism. Merchants & Maruaders love this game. It repalced Avalon Hills Blackbeard. Did you ever play with the expansion? Freedom I never played but I am curious if it has a space for Kingston NY on it. I am from Kingston and my church (Old Dutch Church) there was a part of the underground railroad. They used to give tours of the tunnels underneath the church. A lot of history there. The Church was also burned to the ground during the American Reviloution by the British. Kingston was the first Capital of the New York. The old Sentate house is a great museum.
I regret giving away my old Star Fleet Battles boxset in a silly game cull. I maybe wrong but think there's not been a Star Trek combat game with same depth as Star Fleet Battles though Im keeping a eye on Star Trek into Unknown when it's released
My short list includes Five Tribes, Legendary Alien, Crisis, Warband: Against the Darkness and Shadow Hunters, but I try to keep my collection to around 20-30 games at any given moment.
@@Ecto_Fox I think it's more my love of Alien than my love of the Legendary system that makes me regret it. I'd generally rather play Tyrants of the Underdark or Lost Ruins of Arnak if I had the deck builder itch.
I couldn't part with Star Trek Frontiers, Merchants or Xia. unfortunately I don't get them to the table as often as I'd like, but that can be said about my entire collection haha. I got rid of my substantial X-wing Miniatures Collection. that one hurt, as it got me into modern gaming. unfortunately it would bankrupt me to upgrade it to the current rules, and get caught up on content.
To be fair to the game, we only played it once. We didn't give it much of a chance. However, it sounds like it's cursed and would have probably broken up our group...
Ever tried the expansion for M&M? For me it bumped the game from great to damn near perfect. Asking because it might have swayed your opinion on the purge.
I have the old HeroQuest game for when it came out in 1989 but I bought the new one and I did not open it yet. I think I will sell it because it’s more geared towards kids and I don’t really like the figures.
The new edition is actually quite nice. Avalon Hill has released heaps of expansions and there’s even an app to take the place of Zargon. Our family has really enjoyed it.
Interesting video. You comments on "Last Night On Earth" got me thinking. I've played it a few times and it never was a hit with any group. Perhaps it was the scenario I chose, it just seemed to drag on and all you were doing was looking for a card you needed in the deck. I need to play this again, if I get the same result I may give it away too! LOL
The moral of the story is...don't move. :)
Ha! Right?

Yeah, it's been hard, especially since I've had to move several times over the past few years. Not fun.
