I watched this months ago and immediately subscribed. Upon seeing you in my Subscriptions I forgot who you were so I checked and I'm not watching this video AGAIN because I remembered how good it is.
A strange case, you have a killer who lets two of his victims survive and another live for two days before succumbing, lets one escape completely and uses a .22. One who doesn't wear a mask to kill, but then decides to for the third killing. But not any old mask..... He has a gun but decides to stab, which he obviously wasn't very good at. Kills very/ young couples and threatens school kids....but then kills a cab driver. He definitely had more energy for killing the females and it seems he almost killed the male through necessity. also.... he goes to a killing scene wearing a mask and glasses ( disguise), then doesn't kill either of them before leaving them for dead... so the victims can give a description of him. It's almost like he wanted them to survive .To me this suggests a man who was out of luck with the ladies at high school, didn't fit in at school and wanted to hurt the world like it had hurt him. I could also see it being like th ABC point story where perhaps Darlene is the target . He may well have been murder for hire, at least to an extent, but also liked doing it.
That's the unfortunate trade off... Maybe one day I can run this channel full time and I can push out more videos, but I'm a long way off achieving that.
I have to say, I think I've watched most well-constructed videos out there on this case and, besides how commonly known the events of the Zodiac killings are, you still managed to pull off a fresh and original take. Kudos. I've subbed. All the best for the New Year.

Thank you for the kind words. The Zodiac case is quite intriguing and quite special. I have read comments both here, and on Reddit, and it's fascinating to see how many theories and suspects there really are. In the video I chose to focus on my personal prefered suspect, and two more "obscure" ones. But ultimately, the goal of the video was not to make anyone agree with my conclussion, but instead to present the facts, give some personal insight, and allow the viewer to be inspired to form their own conclusions, or to do their own research. So it is motivating seeing so many, including yourself, throw out your own prefered suspects and theories. Absolutely love it.
I am starting work on the next video when the new year starts. Just want to take some time off and spend it with the family. Unfortunately, these videos do take a while to make, so I wouldn't expect an upload until at the earliest April 2023, but it's looking more likely to be a June/July 2023 video
Really good video. High marks on the information accuracy and video quality. I'm sure one or two things that were minor may have been off (someone will point them out), but overall, this was a fair presentation and assessment.

No worries, I took it as such. And I do appreciate it. LEMMiNO was the inspiration behind this entire video and the channel, so the comparison is a massive compliment. Thank you.
This is an excellent video, probably the best rundown of the probative evidence in the case I've seen. It was probably a wise decision to keep the discussion over the ciphers to a minimum, as well as the various literary references (real or imagined) that appear in his letters. From what I've seen, those topics tend to invite a lot of extraneous speculation that goes nowhere and makes an otherwise fairly straightforward canon of crimes needlessly complicated. There has never been new _real_ evidence that has come from that line of inquiry. I know that it's out of LEMMINO's bag of tricks, but rendering the layout of the crime scenes and the locations of witnesses is an excellent edition that I have not seen done well in any other documentary and that alone, in my opinion, would make me recommend this video first to anyone interested in the case. There are only a few things I would say could have been useful inclusions (not that you're remaking this just because some genius writes a comment). First, a clearer overview of the neighborhood of Pacific Heights and the immediate area around Washington and Cherry, up to the Presidio (the area of the Stine murder), as well as the cab route that Stine took, beginning I believe at the downtown theater district. I think it's sort of important to understand that since you bring up where Lawrence Kane was living at the time and that it was relatively close to the pick-up point. Of note, it was A) a major population center that was the central hub of the entire region, so a lot of people lived there and B) the killer departed the scene heading north and away from central SF towards the Golden Gate bridge, and that's also the direction of all the other canonical crimes. Whether he actually left SF or stayed in the Presidio is an open question, but I do believe that whole area was searched with dogs that night, so it's not a trivial point when we're trying to geo-locate the killer. Second, if I remember correctly, there are some nagging issues with Kathleen John's story that get lost in the mythology. I am not well read on that story but I'm aware of some of the controversy, so I'm relying on Richard Grinnell's website. I don't think there were any witnesses of her abandoned car prior to it being set on fire, and she appears to have given some conflicting reports about the timeline of that day if you include Graysmith's book (obviously could be a classic Graysmith problem of course). I think she also said that the people who rescued her from a vineyard next to a highway offramp just dropped her off at the police station so she went in by herself. I'm not sure these people were identified and I don't think she could remember their names, only that they were from Missouri, so unless I'm mistaken there aren't any statements from them, although I'm happy to be proven wrong on that point. Finally, whereas we have two separate witnesses who heard Zodiac's voice and described it in fairly specific detail (Hartnell and Nancy Slover) here you have someone who spends 2 hours in a car with the guy who is clearly having a conversation with her since he "evades and changes the subject" and yet I don't think she ever managed to describe his voice much less anything specific he talked about. Add to that the letter from Zodiac describing this event (like with Cheri Jo Bates) was completely without detail that couldn't have easily been sourced from the paper. It's still ambiguous and could go either way, but when you compare the amount of effort and _planning_ that he put into proving he was the perpetrator of Lake Herman Rd., Blue Rock Springs, Presidio Heights and (at the scene) Lake Berryessa, it is very much an outlier and deserves some serious skepticism. Exactly the same for Donna Lass, and exactly the same for Cheri Jo Bates. This is why the letters are as much a curse as they are important pieces of evidence; they are full of bullshit as well as the truth. circumstantial
Thank you for the compliments, and thank you even more for the criticism. You make a great point about how I presented the Stine case in relation to location and the implications thereof. Adding the route would not have been a major inclusion at first sight, but I do think it would have added value for the viewer. The Johns case was also one of the harder cases since details surrounding it are both scarce and somewhat contradictory. Most of the information in that particular case came from a newspaper article.
@@banditoyt I've got a lot of respect for the person who eschews the mythmaking impulse of True Crime. There were multiple times I was watching this video waiting for you to bring up things like the phone call to the dispatcher Nancy Slover, and the way the dude said, "goodbye", which are completely useless from an evidentiary standpoint, and frankly pretty cringe, in order to make the case seem creepier than it is, and you never did that so I knew I was watching something serious. I am subscribed and eagerly looking forward to more content that takes that approach.
The goal of the video was always to pack as much useful information into an as compact video as possible, so minor details such as the exact tone Zodiac used in his phone calls was somewhat irrelevant to me. This is also the reason I chose to cut the call to the TV Show. It makes for quite the dramatic scene, but ultimately, it does not add much more than that. Hopefully I can only improve from here on out and produce even better content in the coming months. And if all goes well, I might even be able to do this as a full time job eventually, which is the dream.
Don Cheney... You got the name right!!! Thank you so much for this, so many people get it wrong... This was great stuff man, wonderful work... Oh and I love the name as well. Bandit, how perfect... Oh, not too sure about Ray Davis, I'm 60% on that one... However, I do believe he did Robert Domingos and Linda Edwards, almost sure of it... As well as Cheri Jo Bates almost sure... Donna Ann Lass, I don't believe was Zodiac... Sorry, I had to fix my spelling below... Not as sharp as I use to be.
You have done such a great job here... Hats off to you man... I also can not see anyone but Zodiac being Arthur Leigh Allen... I have my reasons and my thoughts. Your first run at ALA is pretty bang on... The Stine witness by that I believe you mean the 3 kids, Fouke and Zelms. Now, they said it was a black guy and if I had to guess (and it's just a guess) that Zodiac called into the cab co and said there was a black man attacking the driver, just my guess. As for the kids, I think they were too far away to get a good look at him and I believe the same with Fouke and Zelms, they were not close enough to get a really good look at him and it's only after they realize they were looking for a white man did they try to remember what he looked like. The one thing I believe they got right is the nose... As for prints, I don't think he ever left any... As for DNA, it's known he had other people lick his stamps for him... And most recently they tested his stamps to someone else and it was a match but it was said, he was not the Zodiac, not sure what to make of that yet but this came from Tom Voigt... Worth a look. As of the glasses, I believe he totally used them when he did his thing, along with a wig, which I am pretty sure he used when he was killing. As for ambidextrous, totally seemed like he was faking it cause everyone who knew him, said he would right with both hands and said Leigh didn't have a preference for either his left or right hand... The last time they saw him, before he died, they found quite a bit of evidence, bombs, his typewriter, etc. In any case, you did great man and I'm so happy you see something here, I do as well. Great work!!!
There's something in the pipeline, but the topic an vision of the next video has somewhat changed since I started working on it in 2023, so it's taking a lot longer than intended.
I was watching the animations and graphics and assumed this was from a big channel with a lot of production value, just to be shocked when I saw you had less than 4k subs. Good job dude, this is really good.
Wow! This is very well done! And even contained information I didn't know about despite being interested in this case for yours! I'm convinced Arthur isn't the Zodiac Killer, personally. And I thought that the driver had threatened to kill the woman and throw her baby out the window? Either way, great video, you earned a subscriber!
Thank you. I appreciate it. My first time warching the Zldiac movie was after doing research for this video, and I found it interesting that they had the driver threaten Johns. Probably just for dramatic effect.
@@banditoyt I see, but I heard it from other sources as well. The lack of consistency about this case in my eyes is as fascinating as it is frustrating.
Completely agree with you. This video was shared on the Zodiac Killer subreddit, and even there people had misconceptions, at least, that is in regards to my research. Most of my research was done using the police reports from the cases, and I have noticed many of the disputed facts are in cases where the noted person, or someone close to them, disputed it after the fact. So when even the involved people are somewhat changing their stories, getting the correct one is difficult.
This is extremely well done. However, I must point out one inaccuracy I've noticed: according to Bryan Hartnell himself, at 21:29 the Zodiac never said, "I'm going to have to stab you", but instead simply took out the knife and started stabbing him, much to Cecilia's horror. One of the key reasons he survived and she didn't was that he didn't expect it; however, she did after seeing him get stabbed, which caused her to panic and roll around as Z did the same to her, creating more erratic and deadlier wounds than she would've sustained if she had lied still. The whole "I can't stand to see her stabbed" exchange is pure fiction that was invented to make the event seem "more dramatic" for its inclusion in a "true crime" novel about the murders.
Hey, thank you for watching, and thank you for pointing it out. However, I just rechecked my source, and I am going to have to disagree with you. I understand there is a lot of misinformation floating around about the Zodiac cases, which is why I based the overwhelming majority of my information off of the official police reports, including that exchange between Hartnell and Z. While I will concede that Hartnell might have fabricated, or misremembered the exact events, these events are documented in the police report, so I believe its inclusion is valid. Feel free to check out my sources by following the link in the description.
@@banditoyt I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, as I still believe in Hartnell's account. In 2008 he had this to say in an interview with Inland Empire magazine about his involvement with the 2007 David Fincher film: Before filming began, Zodiac producers gave Hartnell a copy of the script. Although a few facts had to be compressed for time constraint, he asked for one change. Robert Graysmith had heard from one of the investigators that Hartnell had told the Zodiac, "I'm chicken, stab me first." He won't come out and say it but, clearly, he finds the misquote deeply offensive. Most importantly, he says, it's untrue. "The only reason I'm sensitive about it is it's so preposterous", he explains. "First of all I had no clue that it [the stabbing] was going to happen until it happened. And I don't think a person who was chicken would say 'I'm chicken, stab me first'. I mean, I can say 'I'm chicken, I don't want to be stabbed', but I don't think anyone would say, 'stab me first!'" He won his case and the line was excised from the script.
That's quite interesting. The police report was obviously writen at the moment of taking the statement, so I do wonder why Hartnell would backpaddle on his statement. If you'd like, I can give you the link to the report page I found the statement on, if it would be of any aid. I'll do some additional research on the matter. If I am convinced, I will add it to the corrections. I am however biased towards using the information in the police report, since the statement was taken a few days after the fact, at most, instead of many years after the fact.

The Quality of this video is insane. SO CRIMINAL that you have so little subscribers. Hope all the best for you!
Thank you. It's humbling seeing comments like these. Making these videos is a long process and the motivation isn't always there, but seeing comments like these is exactly the drive I need every now and then.

@@banditoyt im not trying to self- promote or anything, but seeing this video made me want to work on a video of my own. thank you for fueling a drive to create that i haven't had in a long time (If you do consider this self-promo then you can take it down by all means!)
This is exactly what I am looking for and would love to see more from this channel. Very well done!

Great work man. I am a sucker for this type of documentary, and I thought you are an experienced creator, but it turned out this is your first video. Hope you are going to produce more work in the future.
I'm starting work on the next video when December ends. Won't be out for a while though.
I am happy you enjoyed it.
Such a great job, one of the best zodiac killer documentaries I've seen
Thank you. Appreciate the compliment. I worked hard on this video, so it's motivating seeing comments like yours.

This is insanely well made for a channel’s first video. Excited to see what kind of videos you make next.
Trust me, I had some practice with another old channel of mine floating around this site.
I'm excited for the future as well, but it will take time. This video took a great amount of effort to make, so I won't be pumping these out by the month.
Amount of work and quality is just commendable. Subscribed in a heartbeat.
Thank you so much ❤️

This is impressive work. You just gained a subscriber my friend. Never thought I’d find another channel on par with Lemmino.

Fantastic video. Research like this must take forever and be very tiring at times, but it ends up making a great video such as this one. What a pay off.
Hope to see more. Amazing job.
Incredible video bro! Video production was spot on 👌
Thank you. Appreciate that you took the time to watch it.
Wish you posted more than every 6 months! But I understand this editing takes time but this is absolutely amazing bro! Keep it up!
That's the unfortunate trade off... Maybe one day I can run this channel full time and I can push out more videos, but I'm a long way off achieving that.
This is really good stuff. Nice graphics, interesting voice, also solid correct information.
Really incredible to watch! Love the editing and the animations🔥

Hey, thankYOU. Have seen many many docs/films on Zodiac & yours was top rate. Far more memorable than most. Incidently , I've always found Darlene's first husband Jim Phillip Crabtree an interesting character. Darlene probably met her 'stalker' thru Jim.

This is surprisingly good for how small your channel is. Kind of reminds me of Lemmino.
Edit: I mean that as a compliment
No worries, I took it as such. And I do appreciate it. LEMMiNO was the inspiration behind this entire video and the channel, so the comparison is a massive compliment. Thank you.
How has the fact that one witness provided testimony for two separate zodiac incidents not been more of a focus?
Amazing video! Thank you for putting hard work into this.
And thank you for watching it. I appreciate it so much.
And if all goes well, I might even be able to do this as a full time job eventually, which is the dream.
well-crafted documentary, strong Lemmino vibes, I love it

It's great seeing people get involved in the comments with their own theories and draw their own conclusions.

Only just discovered your videos and your channel. Please keep doing your thing, you are one of youtube's hidden gems.
Thank you. That is very kind.
In 2008 he had this to say in an interview with Inland Empire magazine about his involvement with the 2007 David Fincher film:
Before filming began, Zodiac producers gave Hartnell a copy of the script.
I am however biased towards using the information in the police report, since the statement was taken a few days after the fact, at most, instead of many years after the fact.
this feels just like a lemmino video, thank you man for delivering this documentary and i’ll be waiting for more
