  • In a dramatic display of protest, New Zealand MPs performed the traditional Maori haka in Parliament, halting proceedings over a controversial treaty bill. The bill seeks to narrow the interpretation of the historic Treaty of Waitangi, sparking outrage among Maori leaders and supporters. The protest comes amid nationwide rallies as tensions rise over the rights of Indigenous people.

Over the past twenty years or so judges and bureaucrats have chosen to interpret the treaty to create a two-tier society based on race - which is completely at odds with the wording of the treaty, or it’s common understanding by everyone for the preceding 150 years.

The young generations are sick and tired of paying out for what people before did. I have people on both sides that have been done ill by through invasions and raids. Everyone should be treated the same. If I go to the hospital, I go to the head of the queue because of my part Maori heritage. That's wrong. First indigenous people often need different health treatment to colonizers, this is because their immune systems are not evolved to fight off these introduced diseases. An example of this is the indigenous people of Australia who have restrictions placed on them when drinking alcohol, because they have not evolved with alcohol and thus cannot handle it. Second, Māori having input over the use of land is a good thing because key Māori values highlight the importance of protecting the land for future generations, thereby making them a force for environmental protection, without which we would have a far more polluted country. As for universities, yeah that is pretty unfair that Māori get put ahead of other people, but not really a special right as anyone who learns the language can get given special Māori scholarships, this is to promote stuff like more Māori speaking doctors, so that Māori feel more comfortable going and seeking medical help (which they do at a lower rate compared to other groups.)

and all the dark controllers clap their hands with glee as they win yet another round, the hikoi made into no thing as this display sucks all the juice out of all the efforts of Maori to make their voices heard. Such a damn shame. Bet she wouldn't dare show such lack of restraint on marae.

The controversial bill is one side interpretation of the Treaty of Waitangi. Pushing it forward part of MP intentionally divide people and the country.

It was disgusting and offensive. To make threats of shooting someone while calling them evil is not passionate, it is violent and irrational - especially where it was done.
