Yeah, I can see why this was his final film. Also, let's all remember that Bluth passed up making a 2D _Ice Age_ in favor of this movie.

The only reason we can think of why Don Bluth quit making Ice Age is because
      1. He would rather stick with the form of animation he knows a lot more about than CGI - hand-drawn.
      2. However, because of snobby audiences finally somehow underrated traditional 2D animation as something more outdated in the 20th Century than double standards, of course that would very likely never give Ice Age the light of day Chris Wedge gave it as a movie and a franchise after what happened with Titan AE.

some people might be saying that Titan A.E is a treasure planet knock-off, but it's the other way around. Titan A.E came out before treasure planet, and treasure planet does take a lot of inspiration from Titan A.E ( Titan A.E, 2000 ) ( Treasure Planet, 2002 )

At least with them, All Dogs, Land Before Time, American Tail & NIMH they are still beloved, talked about and even gotten sequels due to their popularity and all. And I do feel those 5 I.P. s are iconic Don Bluth stuff.

Back in 1998/99 when I was 13 they released a 20-second promo for this movie at the cinema that was incredibly affective. It was the opening monologue about humanity and the Dredge, a jump cut to 2-seconds of the Dredge mothership firing on the Earth and a second jump cut to the Titan warping away and the narration saying, “Now our only hope is Titan” and that was it.
I was utterly blown away, I loved science fiction back then and it was so vague that my young teenage brain went into overdrive speculating about this film I knew practically nothing about. Honestly…I came up with ideas that were, I believe, a lot more interesting than what we got.
Living in the UK the premonition for this film was virtually non-existent, even when it was showing, my best friend at the time had not heard about it and were it not for the fact I was actively looking out for it I’d have missed it too during the narrow window it was showing.
Honestly when I saw it on the big screen at 15 I did enjoy the ride with it having a few stand out sequences I enjoyed, the excitement of the opening, the foot chase with the Dredge on the station, the wake angels and ice crystals space scenes. Also I did enjoy the creativity of the Dredge in both their design but more importantly them being made of energy with the one that got its arm shot off taking energy from the station and regenerating along with when the captured Kale the ship and crew just absorbed into the mothership when it landed, giving them this very alien vibe.
Also having grown up with a highly slightly mentally unhinged, overprotective Mother who was quite fanatical in controlling my and my sisters media consumption, believing that watching an action film with a single drop of blood would turn us into mass murders, the existence of blood in the movie and seeing Korso snap that other aliens neck did make me feel grow up and liberated to be watching something so ‘mature.‘
The real gift of this movie though was how in the days and weeks after watching it I had fun tearing apart the various plot holes in the film. Some you have already highlighted, others include,
    1. Since the Dredge clearly do not value human and I assume organic life in general, why did they waste time and resources creating a life support pod for Afenia so there is a risk she might be found and come back to fight them when they decided to jettison her into space rather than, you know, just throwing her out so she would die seconds?
    2. Why design a force field to a cell that is so terrible a human can open with his fingers?
    3. After seeing the Dredge can just create ships and drones out of the grid the second they need them, why have ships in the hanger bay waiting around? If you want to say so they can save the 1-second it takes to make one to fly out, that is undermined by having no crew! They are drones! Why not have them just sat in the ships? They just absorb them when they don’t need them anyway so it’s not like they need time off to sleep and eat so having pre-ships is slower as Dredge drones need to travel to them and get inside rather than the grid just producing a ship with the crew already inside.
    4. How can Kale pilot a Dredge ship? I mean, why would the Dredge design ships that can be stolen in the first place? Why give their ships physical controls at all? Why not just have the same intelligence of a done in the ship itself so it does not need a crew to pilot it making it vulnerable to capture and have the drones on board as just shock troops?
    5. Why build the Titan at all? This was a planet making ship that his own father confirmed they had no idea how to generate the power to make it work…this is something you figure out in the design stage BEFORE you build it as it not only serves no purpose but made humanity a target for the Dredge. The only answer that makes sense is to preserve human culture that was bound up with the planet and the various animals in the event the Earth was under threat of being blown up…but it was only under such s threat in response to it being built!
I could go on and on but the problems with the writing it horrific.
How would I fix this movie? Firstly I’d flesh out the Dredge as having come from the nearest galaxy that was destroyed by advanced alien civilisations fighting each other and the fighting got so bad as the thousands of years of war dragged and technology kept increasing by the end they were wiping out entire planets constantly. So to save this galaxy have them hell bent on suppressing all alien civilisations using their advanced tech. But the alien races of our galaxy were unwilling to induce the loss of freedom and have the Dredge rule over them and so resisted with humanity leading this massive alliance against the Dredge with the Dredge reluctantly destroying Earth to both cripple humanity and send a warning to the others to disarm and accept Dredge rule.
This gives the Dredge clear and understandable motives in destroying Earth and with the moral complexity in their goals, keeping the galaxy safe and preserving life though tyranny after seeing their own galaxy destroyed though war, you create better motives for people to side with them against the protagonists beyond “money” with some scared of retaliation with others sincerely believing that Dredge domination is a necessary evil rather than risk the galaxy eventually destroyed in war too.

This is the movie where Colette was not a hot chick with a French accent (which shows that she works at the Parisian restaurant Gusteau’s), but an alien who stood up to Timon being far more abusive that anyone could possibly imagine (sure, he did have his jerk moments in Timon and Pumbaa the same way Pumbaa did despite being at heart “bestest best friends”, but I could never imagine him being so genuinely egotistical up to the ranks of Peers where he would even betray the twist villain Korso (which this movie couldn’t even decide whether they wanted him to be a good guy or a villain until they made up their mind at the end by turning him good again after especially remembering the best part of the movie where he taught Kale to fly) by holding him at gunpoint like he would do with anyone else who isn’t himself like Cale and Akima and before he would attempt to slaughter everyone else, of course Korso was gonna strangle him to death downstairs)!
