    Wow, talk about a military mission!
    *Citizen 1:* "Oh look, the Nubians are attacking."
    *Citizen 2:* "Is it boats or ground troops?"
    *Citizen 1:* "Ground troops, it seems."
    *Citizen 2:* "Oh, so it's tuesday today. Their navy attacks on fridays."
    **Later**
    *New citizen:* "Uuuum, so I heard that you don't keep track of the months here based on the harvest cycle or the moon phases or the passing of days?"
    *Citizen 2:* "Indeed we don't. We have a more reliable method, as sure as the ground beneath our feet, seeing as how the inundation can be unpredictable, the night sky can be cloudy, and people can lose track of days."
    *New citizen:* "Soooo... What is this method then?"
    *Citizen 2:* "Whenever we get attacked by other egyptians again, we know for sure that exactly a month has passed. They attack with navy every pairless month and with ground troops on paired months. Simple."

      Ya 🙈 In Thinis, the attacks on Very Hard are RIDICULOUSLY difficult. On Very Hard I've managed to survive till year 2005 BC, then the Egyptians sent like 8 ships and 4 forts of army at the same time. I only had my few godly veterans, namely 1 fort of infantry and 2 forts of archers and 6 towers in the old town. I've derouted two of their legions toward my towers, but the rest of his army entered my main town and destroyed everything. Game over, sadly 🤗

    I am playing this mission for the first time and got railed by the Egyptian and Nubian forces on my play through yesterday. After consulting this vid and Pharaoh Heaven’s tips on this level, I am going to restart the whole level tonight with a different approach. Haven’t had to restart a level so far in the campaign! This one is a real bear

      Sleelan thinking about the poetic implications of this.
      In this mission, you are basically chosen to rescue a city that one of your ancestors built. Once your family was in Thinis to form the initial glory of Egypt, and now you are restoring it to its former glory on the same ground.

    Thanks so much for this. I really like your delivery style and pace. Interesting to know there’s 100-200 playing Pharaoh at any time on Steam.
    Really helpful things I gleaned from your video:
    Read the level info at the beginning to get a taste of what the level will through up.
    -
    Press R for statue change
    -
    You don’t need to connect paths for people to move through
    -
    Use roadblocks
    -
    Check carefully what industry to start by checking trade first
    -
    Storage Yard, you can alter how much to fill up the storage yard???
    -
    You’re kingdom rating will go down if you get into debt!
    -
    More population the more shrines and temples needed.
    -
    Military, you can change which side they face by clicking the button at the bottom.
    -
    Make sure to refuse the money requests, otherwise you’re kingdom rating will fall.
    -
    If you click on map view, you can see where attacking armies are as well as your own (if relieving another city).

    • @rainbowevil

      Kingdom rating will fall whenever fulfilling money requests? Or just for a specific one in this mission, presumably because it’s an enemy of the kingdom?

    I have to say that you are truly a master of military in Pharaoh, especially at Very Hard. You are probably the only person on UA-cam who can say that they've played this mission on VH without failing. :)
    These huge battles are a sign of what kind of battles you will face in all the remaining campaign missions of the Middle and New Kingdoms. The trading issue is also key, as most of these early Middle Kingdom missions have very limited trade routes, so making large stacks of cash is not usually the point (and on VH, is very difficult anyway). They improve a little bit towards the latter part (once you become the Pharaoh), but trade quotas are reduced. New Kingdom (which is quite some time off) has much worse trading problems, but that's a problem you don't need to worry about yet. ;)
    The only thing you need to remember is that on Warships, they have a fatigue level: the reason your ships would not move is because they were "Exhausted", and the game prevents them moving for a short time (trying to paddle a ship that quickly is bound to tire them out). I would have built the maximum complement of warships though. It's always a good idea and never goes wrong in any military mission to have the maximum number.
    As for the difficulty level thing: there is a bug where the game does not register difficulty changes if you change it in the mission briefing box. So the game started the mission as though it was Hard, even though you played on Very Hard. You should not see this bug in any future mission though.
    Great to see a return to Pharaoh! These missions will very much help in honing military skills, not just for Pharaoh, but also for Emperor (in terms of the land attacks). :D

    • @GamerZakh
      @GamerZakh  8 років тому +5

      Hey thanks! Yeah I wanted to get more warships but I kept running out of money haha. That makes sense about ship exhaustion too. I went back to check difficulty stuff, I think it glitched and I started with more money than I should've? On Hard I think it starts with 13K but on Very Hard it's supposed to be 6K? I somehow started with 10K? I'm not sure how to confirm that I was actually playing on Very Hard.

    • @SuperSajuuk
      @SuperSajuuk 8 років тому +3

      GamerZakh You can see what difficulty the game is set to by going to Options -> Difficulty while in a mission. Unfortunately, for the purposes of scores and starting funds, the game will only register the difficulty that is specified when the mission briefing is loaded, so even if you change that difficulty with the buttons, it only registers what it was originally set to, hence why you started with more funds, but changing the difficulty while in a mission means you'll still get the experience of playing at that level. As long as you keep on Very Hard, every mission from this point will start and be scored under Very Hard. I think in this instance, it was a god send that you started with more funds, or I think you would have struggled extremely to get to those early invasions.

    • @GamerZakh
      @GamerZakh  8 років тому +4

      Okay I just double checked, it was on Very Hard, but it's still strange that it started me with 10K when Hard starts with 13K. Must be some math problem in the code somewhere haha.

    • @SuperSajuuk
      @SuperSajuuk 8 років тому +2

      GamerZakh Ya, there are tons of bugs regarding the starting funds with Pharaoh, it was never fixed either. You could restart the mission (using the replay mission function) over and over and get wildly different starting funds. It's a good thing they completely fixed that bug for Zeus/Emperor (never seen the issue happen there), but it's quite a nuisance here in Pharaoh (although you shouldn't experience it again :))

    There is SO much knowledge in the comment section for this series. Eventhough I only played Caesar 3 extensively, if you are up for some intesive micro for a slight advantage, you can exploit kiting BEFORE you engage with your infantry, instead of just using it as a last resort, getting some free rounds on the enemy troops by moving your archers aggressively ahead of the infantry.

    Just finished this mission on very hard and I have to say that this was by far the hardest mission I played so far (Finished the Dynasties before this one).

    A bit of info on ship combat: first repair them after combat (button before return to warf), second: check for their restiveness
    land combat: Using the infantry as tanks is better than just using your archers as fodder because they deal less damage on melee fights in terms of combat strength, economically yes not so much. You can also rotate the unit positioning using R and change the formation using T

    Yes, the Egyptians did indeed attack from the north and the NUbians from the south, which makes sense considering that the west and east were mostly blocked off and the road was incredibly linear.
    It turned out the trick was figuring out if there was a Navy or not, but generally naval battles seem quite easy despite the clunkety clunk of the troops.
    I guess just building forts right in the middle area would cover enough.
    The sad part is that the part of the city with the towers was completely useless.

    You went insanely overkill on the pottery and clay pits there. One Potter produces roughly 550 units of pottery every year, and one clay pit produces just under 1000 clay a year. The reason you weren't selling enough pottery was because your industries and storage yards didn't have enough workers.

    How come you didn't build walls and towers near the invasion areas? The javelins that the towers throw do tons of damage, and it also helps if you're kiting some infantry around with archers. Also, people don't immigrate when there's an invasion in progress.

    • @SuperSajuuk
      @SuperSajuuk 8 років тому +1

      Walls and Towers cost a ridiculous amount of cash to erect at Very Hard (just the tower on its own costs 525). The total cost of just one 2x2 wall and a tower on top of it is 733 debens, which is many times more the price of just importing copper and using your own troops. Not worth the expense when you are fighting troops that are near equal or stronger than your own, walls are only useful against average strength troops such as Nubians/Kushites etc.

    • @GamerZakh
      @GamerZakh  8 років тому +1

      Yeah, as Sajuuk said, it was way too expensive. At the end of the map when I won I still only had 1000+ in the bank (not counting the absolute end of 2700, which I would've spent on more warships first anyway). Not even enough to properly set up 2 towers, let alone a gate and walls. Plus, you don't know where the invasion areas are and the sand dunes meant I couldn't build properly. They could suddenly attack from the southwest, so it's important to have mobile troops. Ah I also know immigration is affected by invasions but I was talking about a literal message of 'slums prevent immigration' that popped up.

    After many tries, I finally reach the point where I completed all rating requirements & population except kingdom rating. My kingdom rating keep falling down for no reason. Send gift, boost kr temporarily but never reach 90,then fall again suddenly.

    • @GamerZakh
      @GamerZakh  2 роки тому

      Kingdom rating drops every year no matter what. You can give gifts from your personal savings, but remember if you send more than 1 gift every 12 months the effect is less. What you do is send a big gift once every 12 months, that will raise your kingdom rating by 10. Do that every year and you'll be able to reach 100 kingdom rating.

    I can't get this working in widescreen.
    Downloaded the latest patch (2.1 i think) and tried running it in 16bit mode. Help anyone?

    • @GamerZakh
      @GamerZakh  8 років тому

      The widescreen fix linked in the description is for Pharaoh with the Cleopatra expansion. Where did you get your copy of the game? Do you have Cleopatra installed? If you buy the GOG.com version it's complete. Otherwise there is a widescreen fix for just Pharaoh but it's not as good. You don't need to change to 16-bit or anything, the GOG.com version I use works perfectly as is on Windows 7 and Windows 10.

      Yeah it was confusing on this one. I didn't realise there was a bug when playing. I'm not sure if I actually played on Hard or if it was just the starting money that was wrong. All my other missions after this I make sure it's very hard though.

      1 house gives the industries access to the entire worker pool, which comes from your total population. When you put down an industry buildings, it sends out a white walker. That guy needs to pass at least 1 house before the building gets employment.

    I hope you didn't finish the game without knowing archers are useless and it's better to improve the houses as much as the mission let's you, because better houses pay a lot of taxes and store a lot of population; importing papyrus, linen, even luxury goods is totally worth it.

    It’s actually not the first map that the statues are different. They’ve always been different. You just literally have never pressed R to rotate or switch them. Also you have been able to rotate the map for years now. It would’ve helped if you read the in-game help, but here I am necro-ing this comments section. I must say, while enjoyable, your play through has been incredibly frustrating.

    • @GamerZakh
      @GamerZakh  4 роки тому

      You'll be happy to know it's been years since this video so I've discovered plenty since. Many enjoy seeing the learning process and the vast majority of people playing games like these aren't going to read through the in-game help. How do you even do that to discover rotating statues? Just open it up and read through everything for hours? Nothing really prompts you to look up statues in the help.

    You needed to build more infantry instead of archers. They are weak.

    • @Ilusionariat
      @Ilusionariat 8 років тому

      And also try building walls and towers, they really help. :)

    • @GamerZakh
      @GamerZakh  8 років тому

      I didn't build so much infantry here because copper was taking a toll on my money. Archers are free. I also did the math on effective walls and towers. It would've cost an extra 8,000 to 10,000 to build just minimum defences. Don't have the money to do things like that haha!

    • @Ilusionariat
      @Ilusionariat 8 років тому

      I think walls at the entry points aren't that expensive. I know it won't defeat the enemy but extra firepower and also time for fielding your guys will sure help.
      Anyways, I love your game play. I sit and watch and really enjoy your vids Zakh! I just want to see your fortification design once. :D
      Be well!

    • @GamerZakh
      @GamerZakh  8 років тому +2

      Haha, that's just the cost of walls, gate, and 2 towers at both entry points. It's really expensive =S And thanks! If I ever get a map with a lot of money and military I'll build more defences.

    WHY THE FREAKING F**** IS THIS MISSION SO HARD????

    • @GamerZakh
      @GamerZakh  7 місяців тому

      Yeah Pharaoh has balance issues throughout. Some missions are just way hard, 1 is even impossible to win normally without massive cheese of some form if you're on Very Hard difficulty. The game is really balanced for Normal difficulty.
