Good stuff Zakh, I enjoyed watching this video. Nice explainations of your actions and considerations. That said, I do have a couple of comments that might help optimze the gameplay a bit. Industry: the speed at which most industrial buildings produce their goods is linked directly to the number of workers that work there, with clay pits being twice as efficient. This means that three clay pits (24 workers total) can provide enough clay for four potters (48 workers total). I noticed that you put down three pits and six potters in the early-game, which is two more potters than the pits can support. That's effectively 24 workers that aren't doing anything in the worker-stressed early-game. Religion: To keep a local god happy, a single Temple or Shrine is needed per 750 or 300 inhabitants respectively. Patron gods are a bit more fussy, requiring a Temple or Shrine per 375 or 150 inhabiants. Furthermore, as gods go longer without having a festival in their name, they will grow resentful, even if you have perfect 'coverage'. This is why Bast was continually displeased throughout this map, she received a decent number of temples and shrines in her name, but not quite double the amount. On maps where you are stressed for resources I would recommend keeping her happy. Her two blessings are really powerful: (1) holding a festival to all other gods, resetting their timer and (2) filling up the stores of all your bazaars and houses!! A Temple Complex covers for 8000 people irrespective of whether the god it is dedicated to is a local or patrol deity. This means that as soon as you put down a temple complex to a particular deity, you basically don't need to put any more temples or shrines in their name. Any temples to Ptah after the temple complex were essentially wasted favours. Lastly, gods cannot get angry with you until you hit 600 residents, so you can get away with not building any religious facilities in the early-game to save those valuable workers. Maybe this helps.
This is probably one of the most helpful, best explained comments I have read so far and will definitely change the way I play in the future. Thank you!
@@analemos2327 You can put shrines in the tile behind engineer post/firehouse/police/ etc other single tile buildings. As long as it is within 2 tiles from road it is ok.

I just want to comment for once. I've been watching your videos since about one and a half year - mostly Pharaoh. Your videostyle is great and I really enjoy your commentary. Not too slow, not too fast, not too silent, not too loud. I think I have nothing more to say. Just wanted to give you a verbal thumb up! Greetings from Germany
For clay pits/potteries, you really want a 3:4 ratio in this game for optimum efficiency. I found it out this way: if you click on a pottery or clay pit very often (at full employment), you can make out the amount they produce at each "internal update". Clay pits advance by 4% each time, while potteries do so by 3%, hence the 3:4 ratio (unlike the 1:2 which held true for almost all industries in Caesar III)
I remember the first time I played this mission about a year ago, I didn't focus on my military and got totally destroyed. So I tried Iken, that destruction was even more devastating. I was so demoralised I stopped playing Pharaoh (I was playing hard mode, and didn't want to play a lower difficulty).. Now I'm playing it again and watching your video really helped me to think through efficiency.. I didn't follow your exact build, and I'm still on hard mode, but I've learnt so much from your videos! Also, glad to see a fellow Malaysian doing this! Keep up the good work! :)
*Scout:* "My Lord Pharaoh, there are some Hyenas in the vicinity. They may cause issues if we begin the construction of the city outright and new settlers come in. What should we do?" *Pharaoh:* "Hah, easy. We will pray to the god of city-building, the great Zakh, and he will block the Hyena's path out of their dens with statues that appear out of thin air. It will cost us though, but it will be worth it." *Scout:* "... Umm... Far be it from me to question the Pharaoh's infinite wisdom, but... Is that _really_ the best plan? I mean I've never even heard of this god Zakh or about statues appearing out of thin air." *Pharaoh:* "Oh, you must be new in my family's service. Zakh has been there for my dynasty since the beginning, and is always watching over us all, guiding us to triumph through any struggles and misfortunes. Some say that he can even reverse time if something goes amiss and tries again, until he succeeds." *Scout:* "... Riiiiiiiight. Okay. Sure." **The next day** *Scout:* " _"Zakh will block the Hyenas into their dens with statues."_ Nonsense. Why would a god do that instead of just killing the Hyenas outright? And how could even a god just do that "reload" thing that supposedly reverses time? Oh well, I guess there's bound to be one or two crazy Pharaos in every... great... Dynas...ty... EH!?" **The scout arrives near the Hyena's den, and sees that the path has been blocked by giant statues. The Hyenas can't get out.** *Scout:* "... I... Stand corrected." *O.o'*
Glad I can provide that platform haha. I'm a little concerned that the video is too long though. You'll need a pot to keep you sipping through the whole thing.
I'm really happy to see you playing Pharaoh again! :)It has been quite some time now. Sawu is one of my favourite Missions, partially because of the funny geographical obstacles. I always try to the houses to the maximal level in this mission, I think this Mission is a good one to have some 4-6 stable palaces somewhere. I hope you upload some more Pharaoh missions soon! Really enjoyed it!
Glad you liked it! I'm trying to make sure it's at minimum 1 mission a month right now so there are no more hiatuses. I just have to spend 1 week as 'city-building week' for my streams and it seems to do the trick.
OMG I have been desperately wanting to play this game again for years. I am so stoke that you posted this. I had no idea I could get it on Windows 10. you're the besttt
You can put shrines in the tile behind engineer post/firehouse/police/ etc other single tile buildings. As long as it is within 2 tiles from road it is ok.
Zakh, this is the content I love. Good to see that the the product coming out the other side of your new recording techniques is just as good as the old stuff.
Yeah, I was worried that doing this during a live stream would affect how it turns out. Seems like it's able to be just like the older videos, so I think I'll continue doing this. I'll have a week of city-building live streams once a month, so at least I'll be able to get one of these out every month consistently.
I'm so glad I ran into your videos to teach me how to play better, especially more efficiently, prior to the Pharaoh: A New Era remake coming out soon. Great commentary too!
Your city ended up looking beautiful. I like the trees lining the road. I need to pay more attention to the details of beautification in my cities. I guess it's possible to make a stunning looking city with some creativity.
Oh yes! Now I will have best sunday! Thank you for uploading that. Love the way you play all those old and cool city-building awesome games, love your voice and they was u say words like "proceed". So in general your gameplay is addicting )
Now there's only two missions left in the Middle Kingdom: Heh and Bubastis. Both are very tough missions with harsh requirements, and I'll really be looking forward to the next City Builder livestream week, maybe we'll see one of those! :D
At lower levels, it's easy. But for Zakh, it'll be tough: he's never built any Palatial Estates before, so it's going to introduce a new level of complexity to his design (he can't spread loads of small blocks everywhere, he needs larger blocks holding more people), so it'll be tough.
The thing which bothered me the most was that I needed *2* types of luxury goods for those 4x4 estates, yet you only have *1* entry for luxury goods in the trade manager and the warehouses. So if I wanted to import like 1600 luxury, I wondered if the game gives me 800 of normal luxury and 800 of advanced luxury and if one type is used more than an other type, how the game knows when to import this type and not the other x__X
I'm currently desperate over Bubastis. Helped to restart and apply Zakh's method of building housing blocks though, keeps the population stable and my city doesn't bloat as badly as it did with the layouts I employed before. I still can't get the second kind of luxury goods delivered and as I'm playing with Cleopatra I'm not entirely sure wether or not I really have to build the zoo.
Hey, if you need some specific help with Bubastis, feel free to join Zakh's Discord Server and ask for assistance from the large community there. There's an invite link over on Zakh's channel :)
May I know how do you managed to put a single house block and covers all the buildings, but when I did it, always no nearby workers or not enough workers
I was just playing this mission the other day, didn't fulfill the pottery request on time, lost access to the only port that sold barley for beer, and had to reload far too long into the playthrough. It was not a pleasant moment :/

I have been unable to figure out what I'm doing wrong. It seems like it will be necessary for this mission. Thanks!
Ah that's a real mess haha. You have to bring the transport to a flat coast. Then tell your troops to board the transport. Then you have to wait for every unit to come to the coast and stop moving entirely, then they pop in. If the coast isn't flat enough of a single unit can't find a spot to stand, they won't get it. Also, if a unit is far away coming from the recruiter, you have to wait for that one too to arrive and stop moving before they can board.
Yes: Did you prefer making this Video like this through live streaming? You could handle all City-Building-Videos like that. You would produce more content because you also stream the scenario.
Yeah, it was fun and useful having an audience. Plus, I can at least guarantee one mission a month rather than going on long pauses between episodes. People tuning in for live streams also helps get more views and I can keep the live streams as unlisted videos in case anyone wants to watch them unedited.
They take a lot of effort and I didn't need them. They also need more resources and services taking up employees, which as the city ages, you have fewer and fewer. Manor people also don't work, so it's just population that pays taxes.
Stuck on this one, money is no issue thanks to the gold mines and culture can be handled np, same with the monuments the problem is the prosperity i cant get it to 65, highest i got was 64 but then i run out of beer and linen or workers, silly how its required that you have more exports then imports despite having so much gold.
Omg i tried do not jail hyene.... Loool they attak systematically where we put boat for people(i forgot the word sry) we need obligatory to creat soldier on the first land and creat a boat for soldier before coming make a gold mine zone its horrible with the third request of lin lol( i do that cause jail with status is like cheat about me lol😅)im at - 5000 at this 3th request lol but my skill is creat at the begining my familly house and i send 2 great gift for stop attak of egypt just always space them by each attak by 12 months

next time stop deleting production buildings! you can shut them down from the overseer of commerce. useful trick in saving money :P
Those hyenas are gonna love the newfound status of their neighbourhood
Until I evicted them, I'm sure they enjoyed the desirability improvement.

Ah, capitalism. It's Egypts fault I pay taxes!
in kingdom rating, Oziris is your god of choise. organize festival and build more temples for him and your rating will raise
Don't you mean Ra? Osiris is god of farming, and he isn't available in this mission.
probably ;)

It's available on GOG. :)
Egypt is having Amenity problems, eh?

Haha! Depends on the country I suppose and the living costs there. I'm guessing it'd be a few thousand dollars a month, right? I can only get by now because it's in my favour to convert USD to MYR.
Do you not get a personal salary on very hard? Or are you purposely not using it? I've been playing on Hard not Very Hard
In Pharaoh you get personal salary if you build a dynasty mansion and you can set your own salary. I tend to not really use it very much except for right at the end when I just need to push up favour to win a map.
NEXT PLEASE!!!
It would have been killer if you had lined up the Temple Complex with the Mausoleum like you did with the pyramid.
Most annoying thing about this game is that all my building catch fire. How can i stop this ? Really annoying, have place many architects, etc. ....
