One of the most beautiful and touching final scenes in all of Opera! Benackova and Dvorsky are just ideal, Benackova so juvenile and sweet in her voice, and Dvorsky so expressive and strong in his singing.

Exquisite performance. Is that a tear I see on Dvorsky's cheek as he sings the Prince's serene farewell after the fatal kiss? There's a quite powerful moment of tearful reflection on Asmik Grigorian's face in the Teatro Real DVD of Rusalka (2020) just before Rusalka's benediction over the Prince's body. (Hers is also an exemplary performance, but the supernal beauty of Benackova's voice is hard to match.) Tears are certainly warranted--it's hard to think of a more bruisingly poignant finale in opera.
