JD is such a classic! Talented songwriter. This song makes me wish I could go back to the early 70's for one Friday night and hang out at the Troubadour bar - what a cool time that must have been.

Great version of a great song. I had never heard of this one until about a month ago when I found it while looking for the Eagles version
To answer Rick Sanchez, I've never heard of the Eagles performing this live especially since they got back together in the 90's. They might have played it for "The Long Run" tour.
I always thought it was a great song to say goodbye with, being the last song, second side of their apparently last album. Across the 70's they had gone from country rock to urban rock with flavors in between but they went back to their roots with this one. I always liked this song. It surprises me when other Eagles fans don't know the lyrics or even recall it vaguely.

The '70's produced the most fantastic singer-songwriters ever. Souther, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, John Denver, Frey/Henley, Harry Nielsson, Bernie Leadon, too many to name. I was blessed to have been young in that era. Did Linda Ronstadt write her own songs? I think a lot of them. Such talent and beautiful songs. Loved the California music of that day

I was in California at that time - I don't think Linda wrote her songs. J.D. wrote some, I know.

You might be surprised how many songs Warren Zevon wrote for people like Linda Ronstadt. Like Prince and Souther, he had such an overflow of brilliance, there was plenty to go around.

Thanks. I didn't know that, but I still admire him as a great country-rock artist. He wrote "How Long" for the Eagles, their last hit song.

It was co-written by Don Henley, Glen Frey, Joe Walsh, and J.D Souther. They collaborated on some awesome songs back in the day!

This song had to be written for Thomas and me. This is the first time I've heard it, but I can't help but dedicate to Thomas wherever you are.

The unofficial 6th member of the Eagles!!! 😀 last song off "The Long Run" album dubbed The Long one because it was taking a long time to record...The band's darkest period throughout. This song is beautiful...RIP Glenn Frey...Thank you my friend for the memories...(Dan Tanas and the Troubadour)...

Certainly agree with your comment, J.D. Souther is about the music, the Eagles traded in their blue jeans for Armani suits, you'd think they'd had made enough money by now, banning their music here because of copyright, whats all that about,? have definately forgotten where they came from and what they were about.Don Felder, and Bernie Leadon arnt missing anything,!

@glenn1411 I have the four CDs I was able to find by JD Souther: You're Only Lonely, Black Rose, Home by Dawn and his latest "If The World Was You". Have listened to them all several times but the "You're Only Lonely" CD remains my favorite at this point in time. I love the harmony of Phil Everly with JD on "White Rhythm and Blues" . The duet with James Taylor (who I remember as "Sweet Baby James" so you can tell I am an old lady!) Gotta love youtube for so many great songs for us all!
