  • I think there is really just one important tip which helps you to go miles in Street Photography. The goal shouldn´t be great photos in the first place, which could give lots of pressure. How i handle it is the topic of this video. Enjoy!

I am Oliver, a Street Photographer from Germany with a big love for Italy - mainly Turin. But i am a passionate traveller as well - check out my website krumes.com for photos i´ve made on my journeys to Myanmar, Japan, Bangladesh, USA or China. I´ve been shooting Street Photography for nearly 20 years now. In 2016 i started to teach Street Photography workshops. I had solo and group exhitibions in Germany, Austria, Hungary and Italy, published my first Street Photography book "Immerse light, embrace shadows" last year and was juror for international photo contests. This channel is for all Street Photography beginners and pros - if you have any requests for future videos, please leave a comment - very curious about your opinions. Oh, and I am still a beginner in this UA-cam thing so your comments help me a lot - and please forgive me my bad English...

For me, street photography is for fun and relaxing and connecting. Seeing what emerges. I think for sure getting a kit together you enjoy using is important, and so is spending time on it. But you are right: its the quality of the time spent, rather than the quality of the image. With a bit of trial and error, and reflection on what worked (or didn't), good images will happen often enough to be satisfying.

This is exactly right! I agree completely. The hunt for the best gear and the perfect photo can be limiting. Just shoot and shoot a lot!

really useful tips! when I first started street photography one year ago, i always felt exhausted both physically and mentally to take a nice picture. soon i learned that you need to enjoy the journey and eventually the it will pay back for good. greetings from Taiwan!

For me, street photography is observation first, whether you do it in big cities like NY, Tokyo, Shanghai etc, or on your hometown. Anything can be interesting if you know how to frame it. Well, of course I'm biased to abstract-ish works like Leiter or Haas. Being able to make a nice images is bonus. You can't control people moving aroung, the lighting, the weather etc. Either wait patiently, or do it again on the next day.
If you want to consistently make good images, perhaps consider studio work. Heck you can control practically anything... lol

So, the old adage: “you don’t shoot, you don’t get” then?

Yeah, just go out and do your thing. Good picture or bad, it's about the experience of street photography. Good advice, Brother.

Zoom transitions and change of quality of sound depending on the room are a bit distracting (but just my opinion).

tip number one is knowing what to do not to get punched in the face.
some people do not take kindly to photographers. and very physically so.

If you are in an interesting city like Vivian Maier or Meyerowitz you can make interesting photos or in a far remote ugly places make boring photos, like Eggelston boring photos with superb colours but still photos of boring subject.

Street photography is photography that no one will buy or care about. It's a hobby.

go shoot with a film camera and don't load the film and go shoot, or take your digi with no card and go out once a week with it. Quit trophy hunting and just do.
