Kentmere 100 Black and White Film : Any Good?

  • If you are into film photography, you are probably very familiar with the name Kentmere. This is a budget line of films that are manufactured by Ilford in the UK.
    Many people are big fans of Kentmere films. I certainly shoot with it all the time. But some folks are hesitant to try it, simply because of the low price. People think, "well, if it's that cheap, it can't be any good". But is that true? And is that fair to this low speed film?
    In this video I take a close look at Kentmere 100 iso black and white film. As I said, I have used this film countless times. In general, I am very happy with its performance. In general, I find that it gives very decent results. Sometimes, in fact, the results can be incredible.
    Of course, it goes without saying that this film may not be on the same level as films like Tri-X or Acros. But for this price point, that shouldn't be expected anyway.
    In this video I share why I love this film so much, and I discuss some of its pros and cons. If you are looking for an affordable black and white film that enables you to shoot often, this is probably the one for you.
    At the end of the video, I share a variety of shots that I have taken with Kentmere 100 black and white film. These photos were taken with various cameras and lenses. They were developed in either Kodak D76, or Ilford ID11.
