Keilwerth tenor saxophones always come off as paint peelers. So powerful. Yet there is something there that attracts me to them. I would say not knowing which one you like better is not a nightmare but instead a dream because you can play either one whenever you like.

To me the Keilworth had better intonation. The S1 obviously had a larger voice, but was pitchy until you pushed it. Cool horns for variety’s sake.

The Buffet seems more musical in the second and upper registers and the Keilwerth more in the first

JK has a extra wide bow on all their horns. As you know I love both of them but !!! The JK here wins. Only just but it wins mate. S1 more compact. Its French. Ha. JK bigger. Darker more spread. Ya a lucky man having both

The mouthpiece obviously has a high baffle and smaller chamber, limiting the air stream volume, so it was not possible to hear all the harmonics that the bottom of the bow and the bell could produce. Both sounded good in their own way, but produced only 70% of what both instruments can do. The remaining 30% was missing because of the mouthpiece.
The real test for the tenor is to use a low baffle, fairly open tip large chamber mouthpiece, then play slowly, with tons of air poured in, from the subtone up, let the entire horn vibrate, from top to bottom. Then we could hear what at least 95% of the tenor can do. Otherwise, you can just play an alto sax.

What mouthpiece and reed please. I preferred the Buffet but with another mouthpiece the Keilwerth would sound better. As it is now, it sound too nasal for my taste. But subjectivity is the name of the game!

I prefer a bright (nasal?) sound. It is the Bob Berg replica on both saxophones with select jazz 2M reed, see my video in the link ua-cam.com/video/ZP-rWFLzBrM/v-deo.html

I think that the mouthpiece is very tight, it has to be a wide mouthpiece, I have s1, it is good, super powerful sound
