I lived on that road to Arnhem near the Son bridge and found a lot of armor (and bones) only a spade deep on every inch of ground in my parents garden and in the woods. There wasn't a kid at age 14-15 that hadn't its room decorated with grenades, panzerfausts, helmets and other stuff when I grew up. Had to deliver it to the police after a while though as it was too dangerous to keep it. Still know where all the dangerous stuff is buried though after all these years.
Enigma talking about the smoke, it's always been an issue in Men of War/CTA. It doesn't work very well unless the very core of the smoke is between the shooter and target. The way that the AI works in the game means that if Blue Rifleman is obscured from Red Tank, the Red Tank can still shoot Blue Rifleman if the Red Rifleman a little ways down can see Blue Rifleman. Basically the AI has near perfect shared awareness. So long as a single enemy unit can detect your guys, or vice versa, any other unit on that side can see it. It's a big issue for actually using proper assault tactics because units don't actually need to have their eyes on their target to shoot them accurately. Using a proper smoke -> grenades -> CQB style approach like Enigma tried will just get all your dudes killed most of the time. The best method for infantry attacks that I've found is to just use the simple base of fire with your MG/BAR/Automatic Rifles and mortars, then send in the rifleman to slowly take good positions, move up your base of fire, repeat, like Wolfpack did. Shelling the hell out of the target with a tank first works pretty good too.
Well, shouldn't you do that anyways? The problem I see with smoke grenades is that they don't stop bullets. Yes, being pseudo-blinded can be lethal, but using them just to advance down a street or something just means the enemy needs to put more lead down-range. Something which german MG42's are quite good at , at least until the barrel melts or they run put of rounds.
Actual tactics are near impossible to execute in MoW games. Smoke barely ever works I start wondering if it even affects the AI. I get that it would make sense that another unit who can see your units moving would relay that if possible to the enemy you're trying to flank but half the time what happens is if you manage to get your squad in position without being shredded to pieces by another enemy squad is that as soon as you peek over, the enemy you're trying to flank has already repositioned or are facing your way and just immediately rip you apart the second you start firing
@@vito7428 yep, it's irritating. The 'meta' strategy for MoW/CTA is just to get a scout into position and use tanks/artillery to smash the target to pieces. I do a lot of dynamic campaigns with a theme, like Light Infantry/Armor/Airborne or a specific unit with specific equipment a la Steel Division's deck builder, and by far the hardest campaigns are the ones where I don't have a lot of artillery/tanks to leverage. Even entrenched infantry are vulnerable to relatively weak armor/fire support.
@@Altair1243WAR That's true, but the AI doesn't even suffer an accuracy penalty for shooting through smoke as far as I know. If an enemy sniper can see your guys from across the map, the enemy infantry in front of your advance will be just as accurate regardless of the smoke. At the end of the day, MoW/CTA is meant to be an arcadey tactical RTS, so I can't really complain too much. It's just as cheesy for a player to take manual control of a tank and blast a very specific bush because they know there is an AT gun inside it.
@@MUJUNKY Every MoW engagement comes down to whoever can hit each other without being with a long range artillery unit, who can spam the most amounts of disposable units to overwhelm whatever you're trying to attack or just a literal firefight over who has more firepower and can kill the other side faster before they get killed
In Belgium. There are so many bombs in the ground from world war 1 that even to this day, the bomb squad DOVO has to drive not once but twice A DAY up and down all roads to pick them up for safe detonation. Also body parts do still get found. Or rather, what's left of it.
If only Gavin had done exactly this as he was ordered to instead of sitting still crapping his pants up on the Groosbeek Heights. The war would have been shortened by 6 months.
They left most of the country occupied by the germans...It was the Canadians that actually tried to liberate us instead of just looking for an easier way into Germany
If you cross the Rhine at Arnhem, you must still cross the IJssel. Itself a formidable river. Was a stopline against the Soviet Union post war. I never understood this of market garden.
Well yeah, but the Rhine, Maas and Waal form a massive delta over a relatively short distance which I imagine would make it a lot harder to take because of how layered it is and easier to defend. The IJssel is longer than that delta and it's not actually that big. I'm guessing they used it as a defensive line because taking the delta means accepting most of the Netherlands is lost.

That would be the German way to pronounce the city's name. The -heim suffix is a typically German suffix, you will (virtually) never see in Dutch names.
nice one guys i must say i have never watched anything like this, i like it though looks awesome I pretty sure the game suggested for half of your troop to go round to the bridge on boar whilst the other went on foot
It's a pity that neither the game nor the DLC mentions the Polish 1st Independent Parachute Brigade, which was mistakenly dropped by the British almost 1000 km from Arnhem on September 21, 1944. Most of the Polish paratroopers died in battle and the rest were taken prisoner.
'Dropped by the British' is a bit disingenuous. This was an allied operation approved at the huggest level by Supreme Headquarters - an American. But the decision was wrong, no doubt. 1000 kilometres. You are very, very wrong about that.

We made up for that by helping up free you from Nazi occupation, though. So, if you could kindly overlook that....
