    It was called a "Horse Pistol" for good reason; you needed a horse (pommel holster) to carry it, and it would put the enemy's horse down!

    If I understand correctly, there are conversion kits for the Colt Walker which installs a loading gate for metallic centerfire cartridges and replaces the loading lever with an ejector rod mounted to the side of the barrel.

    • @pex_the_unalivedrunk6785
      @pex_the_unalivedrunk6785 7 місяців тому +7

      Yup! It can easily be converted to fire .45 long Colt. However, one must remember that also changes the gun's legal status, until you convert it back to it's muzzleloader form. My uncle has a kit for his, sometimes he uses it, sometimes he doesn't, it takes about 5 minutes. The nice thing about converting it is, makes it easier to keep loaded at home for defense, not that it's an ideal home defense gun, but it would work in a pinch, and be absolutely terrifying to any intruder.

    I've got one of these Walker Colt/Colt Walker reproductions from my Uncle who passed away. It is tricky for someone with a weak arm to hold steady, it's like holding out a half gallon milk jug, but that weight soaks up all the recoil nicely. With a 9" barrel, it's practically a carbine, and is accurate out to 50+ yards if you have a good strong arm and wrist and know how to use it's sights. With 60 grains of powder it's velocity is super sonic, I believe. While cycling, you want to point the muzzle up so the cap doesn't get stuck to the nipple and jam between the cylinder and frame a couple shots later. Also, can easily be converted to fire .45 long colt cartridges, but that does change it's legal classification..

    I’ve taken deer at around 20 yards with my Walker, and they never go far. My only real gripe is the rear sight!

    The Walker Colt was developed for early Texas Rangers so they could fight Comaneci Indians on horseback by riding right in among the Natives to shoot at close quarters. The early ones sometimes exploded because the metallurgy wasn't up to the pressures of 60+ grains of black powder.

    Still one of the baddest guns on the planet! Just taking it out at the range gets everyone from every lane to ask what it is (those that are unaware)and to watch it go off.
