Well, as outwardly against crunch as Nintendo tends to be, I hope to think they won't employ it for this. I say this because more often than not, delays among other companies are near proof positive crunch will be in effect if it wasn't already from then on. I won't claim to say I know whether or not it will be worth it in the end, but by the time it releases I'll just be glad to have a new game to play, and reasonably hope to enjoy.
I remember recently-ish that Nintendo or/ and Monolith Soft had adverts to take on more staff to potentially assist with (speculatively?) BotW2 development. Relevantly, I’ve gleaned from interviews etc that Nintendo will bring on extra staff to hit release dates before conceding to push dates back, which is good vs crunch. This seems to be what is happening with BotW2, not to mention that I’m sure Nintendo is giving XC3 breathing space and push ‘in return’ for the studio’s Nintendo work. It is disappointing of course, but also gives time to try some other games in the meantime. Fingers crossed for WW HD ..
Any hype I had left completely deflated when I saw the first reveal trailer “OMG you can use stasis to freeze and slowly move these copy paste metal balls backwards in a very isolated and set up way!” “HOLYFUCKINGSHIT it’s a copy paste rock monster coming out of the ground, but he has a whole BUNCH of copy paste bokoblins standing on him using a much smaller copy paste fort they used from the first one!” “JESUS CHRIST we can go through thin layers of floor like Smash Bros to...climb...but in a different way” I don’t know why Nintendo is focusing so much on building this over arching story, they’re forcing themselves into a creative box rather than creating a whole new world to explore and pick apart. It’s very strange to watch
The Zelda team are the game-making experts - if this sequel takes a little longer to make, then I say give them the time to make the game right regardless of how much longer we must wait for it. Far better a delayed masterpiece than rushed garbage. If it takes one extra year, fine. If it takes another seven, so be it!
The Zedla team really is underappreciated.. Everyone always talks about Kojima, FromSoftware devs and etc.. But where is the appreciation for the team that inspired those devs and is atill kicking it SUPER strong even after 36+ years?? Edit: fixed phrasing

Excellent insight into this very important topic in gaming. Unfortunately we've seen so much backlash and outrage from gamers not willing to see the many positive outcomes that come with game delays. We always have to understand that these are real people with families who need time to themselves and their loved ones, and crunches can lead to so many missed bugs, unpolished features, etc.
I'm in the boat where I have a ton of games to get to and I know whenever this drops, I would stop everything to play it. The delay just gives me more time to enjoy the games I have, so I'm fine with it!

While I am a little sad, as I was waiting to play it this year, at least these points gave me a bit more insight on why I should view it as a positive thing. In the video you pointed out that the Nintendo team was going to reuse the first map of the original (which I was originally afraid of) but are now expanding the islands more and more. Knowing this information, I will happily wait for next year, as I want this game to feel like a sequel, not a dlc of some kind. I don’t mind the idea of going back on the ground in just a few areas, with them a little updated, (maybe new towns,shops,etc) but as someone who’s explored the map over several times I didn’t like the idea that you might have the same map as the first game. And was afraid the sequel would feel like the islands are just part of a big dlc
Waiting longer sucks, but that means we get a better, smoother game in the long run. They don't feel so rushed making it and we deal with less bugs and glitchy game breaks. I'm totally fine with a delay or two if that means they get to polish the game until it sparkles.
For me personally, it’s a good thing ‘cause the games I’m looking forward to that comes out this year are: Saints Row 2022 and Starfield. I wasn’t sure how I’d squeeze BOTW2 in the middle of them.
True reasons, why franchises delays is best. The companies who need to make it, need money savings properly and more time for editors to check the mistakes and glitches. Without stress issues.
I thought it had a chance to come out in the holiday season this year until Pokemon Day happened. After Pokemon Scarlet and Violet got announced for this holiday season it was inevitable that this was getting delayed. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were barebones remakes that got the lowest review scores that a mainline Pokemon has ever gotten and still sold 14 million copies in like two months. Scarlet and Violet are going to do many times better than this. Not that there's huge crossover for those two series. I'm sure Zelda would still sell decently if it had to share space with Pokemon. Maybe even better. But they lose some sales on two potentially massive games by putting them out against each other. Space them out and more people will buy both.
As a Pokémon fan, I think a delay game is a bit better. You might say I’m crazy and you are pretty privilege because we get tons of game every few year but for me it a bit over saturation because it doesn’t allow me time to enjoy one game now without worry about another one.

So no, game freak can't just ask the Pokemon Company to have more time. Either way, game freak has done a better job in the content department than literally any Nintendo franchise by managing to legacize all of their characters AND their abilities to each Pokemon game for 18 years with an updated movelist. Basically because of Pokemon I can't stop thinking about legacy content and how much better it would make games. They heightened my standards. Like breath of the wild for example, I can't stop thinking about how much of a better game it would be if it had all of the transformation masks in Majora's Mask, or just all of its mechanics from previous Zeldas in general. Some people are acting like the game was delayed for a vague 2023. It probably would come out on November/December and now it will probably be in March. That's not that big deal. We handle way worse delays.

After cyberpunk i dont think anyones going to be ultra-critical about a delay. I know ive been absolutely saddened by the metroid prime delay and now botw sequel. My heart sank, and especially with the delays for multiple games ive been looking forward to for a long while like scorn and atomic heart namely, i still havent found myself being actually really upset. Its better to have a delayed game rather than a cyberpunk and i know most of the gaming scene understands that too.
i think they may have delayed it bc of all the games coming out this year too yeah extra development time is always nice but the new pokemon games was the thing that told me it was getting delayed that and they might release a new system with it BUT i dont think it will be exclusive to the new system like a lot of people have been saying

I also need to get back to Tales of Arise, Bug Fables, Attack on Titan, Nino Kuni Wrath of The White Witch, Dragon Quest 11, Breath of The Wild 1 and Star Ocean First Deperature. Oh if anyone can explain to me how to make armor in Star Ocean or how to get through the last portion of the Wheel of Harma in Dragon Quest please let me know cause I'm stuck lol.

Im all for the wait, but majoras mask is a bad example, its a counter not a supporting point. Majoras Mask is still arguably the best zelda game in the franchise, if not for some then its still really high up in a majority of cases

What’s happening is every time someone finds a new travel mechanic in botw like blss, Nintendo is like “DAMMIT! PATCH THIS PATCH THIS NOW!”

I want them to make the best game possible, but I also want them to expand their team so they can make complete games much quicker. a new mainline _Zelda_ game every five or six years is just not enough to meet my appetite.

i don't understand why some people are angry at the delay. i really prefer they take time to finish the game properly rather than rush it and give us a half baked game.

delaying a game is a good thing. look at Tales of Arise, it was delayed, mostly due to CV19 and changing directors and it turned out pretty well, even if the last gen versions were a bit rough.

Im all for the wait, but majoras mask is a bad example, its a counter not a supporting point. Majoras Mask is still arguably the best zelda game in the franchise, if not for some then its still really high up in a majority of cases
MM is not a game, is a experience that leaves you a change person by the end
They can make a game in 6 years and it will be hard for them to match MM

This year is STACKED with games and botw2 will not get get the fame and playability it deserves. With eldin ring and Horizon as well as Arceus, kirby, splatoon and maybe Bayonetta! Next year is the best year and at the first half of the year makes it better! And honestly people speculated the release to be November (holiday release). But spring isnt that far from then so no need to be dissapointed
