Hi I have watched many videos you made and found them really helpful. I was close to finish up my non-science degree when I realized I wanted to become a doctor. My AGPA is 3.66. It still meets the minimum requirement of (3.3) and statistics show that people with 3.4 GPA was invited for interview, tho I don’t know if that person got accepted. I also don’t think it is possible to elevate my GPA to somewhere close to 4.0 by taking a few extra A/A+ courses. My question is if they care about the story behind/your personal statement or just the grades because to be fair, I think not everyone could realize what they wanted to be early in their lives...🥲 Also, I’m currently working and self-studying for the MCAT hoping that getting a good MCAT score (my goal is 520) could somewhat compensate for my low GPA. But I’m still worried as GPA contributes 20% in overall. 😂
Sorry and thanks for reading my long post!! 😅

Hey, thanks for watching!! I’m happy to hear they’re helpful. It depends where you’re applying, some universities just use GPA as a ranking tool without much consideration for your personal situation. UCalgary for example is a bit different in that part of your academic file review is a subjective Global Academic Review where they would take personal situations into account. Also, some people with lower GPAs definitely do get invited for interviews which means they had a chance at getting accepted if they did well in their interview. Having a higher GPA just means that other portions of your application may not need to be as strong to get an interview. If you think you can be a strong applicant in everything other than GPA, then give an application a shot

@@DaniKilani thanks for sharing. I guess I would have to give it a shot and do my best on the other parts to be competitive! Also do you have any other insights about UManitoba?

@@MaiAnh.D No worries! I unfortunately don't since I didn't apply there, but I would recommend reading up on their process as much as possible. It's also worth seeing if you can connect with a med student from there, since having some specific guidance can definitely be helpful
