  • This Triumph TR3 is a family heirloom that has been in Leigh Scatchard’s life since 1972. Her father bought is for $600 and kept it until 2013 when he sold it to Leigh and her husband Bruce for 1 penny. Bruce has done a frame-up restoration on the car and it's gorgeous. Hear about Leigh’s childhood memories of the car and how Bruce did the restoration to bring it back to better than original condition.

    Those wheels look fantastic, much better than wires.

      The wheels are nice. I agree, they are much better than wire spokes.

    Great car, had one in the 60’s until I went into the Navy. Always sorry I let it get away. Tried to find but no luck. Nice filming but I’d lose the music!

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the restoration, I have been working on a 1961 TR3 for a few years now and have had some doubts. It is a challenge doing the first one. Looking forward to completing it by 2024. Hope it turns out as beautiful as yours.

    TR250 steel wheels with TR6 stainless trim rings with the original dog dish hub caps. The tr6 rims don't have the posts to mount the caps. I put TR6 wheels on my tr4. I like that wheel look. I might do that on my 57. That or minilite clones. They make a silverstone 2 in Canada they looks good but everybody does that I think you picked well. Great looking car.

    We had one and like all British cars the electrical system was garbage. A friend had one. He carried an engine rebuild kit in the trunk.

      Denny, Those old English cars definitely had their challenges. I wouldn't want to have to rely on one as a daily driver. Bruce Scatchard has done a good job of restoring this one. Thanks for watching!

    Similar story here : inherited the car ( '59 TR3A ) from my father, mechanicaly sound, but the bodywork needs restoration, which is planned for this winter. The start is know, when it will be done, is a mystery :-) Hopefully within a year.

    Love the TR6 wheels! What size tires are on there? I'm restoring my TR3 and would love to know the size of those tires so I could put those on my car! Thanks!

    • @brucescatchard4753
      @brucescatchard4753 2 роки тому

      The tires are 195/65R15. I think they are the widest you can go without rubbing. You will need to weld tabs on the tr6 wheels if you want to use the globe tr3 hubcaps.

      @@brucescatchard4753 thanks Bruce! I was thinking of installing the longer wheel studs so I could put the normal TR6 centers in - all black (my TR3 is black). Your car looks awesome!

    • @joellester8865
      @joellester8865 2 роки тому

      Hi Bruce! Do you feel the steering is still manageable with the 195’s on? Not too heavy? Thanks buddy

      @@joellester8865, yes, i didnt notice a big difference from the original tires. Its not like power steering, but its a pretty light car with a big steering wheel.

    • @abee3515
      @abee3515 Рік тому +1

      195 60 15 You don't need to weld tabs if you can source 250 wheels they have the studs already there. You can buy the studs and drill and tap the TR6 wheel which is the way to go.

    I've had my '59 for 51+ years now.....never restored, just well maintained (I think)......Paid $150.00 for it in 1970 and I'm just trying to get my moneys worth out of it....John ( Vancouver Island, Can.) ps, Only real upgrade is a modern hi-torque starter...
