- After nearly a year of work, the 8K Scanned tree texture pack is finally out!

Please let me know what you think, especially any suggestions for improvement that you see. I plan to update the pack within the next few months once Blender 2.8 is officially released.
By the way, I've set the price to $7.99 for the first thirty days. After that, it will go up to $14.99. You can download 3 of the 6 trees in 4k resolution for $0+.

Outstanding work. Even 30$ would be a fair price for such high quailty. That you re giving away 3 for free is an awesome service to the community.
Thank you, I'm glad you think so! I knew I wanted to keep the price low since it's my first product, so that people wouldn't be too afraid to try it out. I also plan to release a video next week about how to build the PVC rig I created to scan these trees; it will be uploaded to this channel!
Just purchased! Looking forward to making use of them - Thanks!
Thank you for your support, Anthony! I'd love to see what you do with them (I'm an okay scanner but a terrible artist)!
Jesse from FB. I'm not saying this just because you're a cool dude...this is really high quality work!
Hi, Jesse! Glad you found the channel! And thank you, I really appreciate that. I hope to have another pack done around the end of summer (just got a new light to test out for it, it's a lot brighter than what I used to scan these).
Great job on these mate - amazing quality!
Thank you so much, Allan!
are these full trees with leaves and branches or just scans of trunks? Thanks
Sorry for the late reply! For now it's just the trunks, but I'll make an update video when I add more assets to the pack! If you're looking for leaves, I know CG Bookcase has a bunch of them available for free.
god so nice
Excellent renders, thank you for sharing. I'm excited for Bender 2.8 too. Have you had a chance to try the Grease Pencil?
Thank you, Bruce! And it's probably been years since I used the Grease Pencil in Blender. I've heard people talking about it lately, though, so I imagine it's probably been updated a lot since the last time I used it. Is it one of the features you're looking forward to in 2.8?
Nice... how did you obtain the crosspolarized photos, i mean i know, i watched your videos, u used the cros polarized images to derive the reflection (roughness) map...? Did you capture ALL the photos with the reflections removed? Or did you capture each one photo twice- once "normal" and once "cross polarized"...? (so instead of like 50 photos per one model (tree bark) you had 100...?
Thank you
Sorry for the late reply! I hardly ever log in to here. The roughness map for those textures was actually just faked using Substance (using the color map as a base). So, thankfully, I didn't have to shoot the tree twice! haha. Though that is something I would like to develop in the future, a way to capture both of those sets of images easily. I recommend looking up Erik Christensen's work over on ArtStation, he's done a bit of experimenting with the cross polarization/parallel polarization method that I think would interest you.
@@ClassyDogStudios thanks for reply, ill check hi mout :-)
Do you think 16gb of hbm should be enough for this amount of texture detail?
Whoop! Very good!
Thank you! That's you, isn't it, Vega?
@@ClassyDogStudios No problem. Yep i'm Vega.
Oh wait, you're still alive.
Yes, another year, another video!
@@ClassyDogStudios Just a simply question but do you use cross polarization for all your scans now or it's just useful for some scans ? I mean do you have a better result with cross polarization even on a mat surface with a good lightings (no shadows) ?
I assuming that you can use cross polarization in exterior or you need a very powerful light or working on night ?
That's a good question! When I scan for other people, sometimes I don't use CP because I don't have a good setup for it yet (my current rig is better for smaller areas that I can easily reach). But for my own scans, or scans for Friendly Shade, I always use CP. For now I shoot at night, but I hope to be able to improve my rigs soon so that I can shoot in any type of daylight conditions, too.
And regarding when to use CP, I think even on matte surfaces with good lighting you will see benefits, but of course it's not as necessary. In some instances, though, you may get better results in the mesh when you don't shoot with CP (or at least not for the mesh generation stage). Things with very small surface detail, such as skin pores, might turn out better when you shoot with normal (or perhaps even parallel-polarized) images, since the highlights on those small details will be lost if shooting with CP and therefore will be harder to capture in the final result. And if you're entire surface is made up of those high-frequency details (skin pores and some types of fabric, as examples), then shooting CP exclusively for them might be detrimental to the end result. I hope that makes sense!
@@ClassyDogStudios I will test the CP in my futur workflow for compare with normal method, thk for your explanation ;)
@@darty367 Cool, I hope it works well for you!
Used the palm trunk in this artwork:www.reddit.com/r/blender/comments/c196xn/late_mornings_minimalistic_blender_artwork/ Thanks so much for making it free.
That's really cool! If you make anything else with it, I'm always happy to see it! You're one of only a few people who's shared images of their work with me, I wish more people would.
is this minecraft. like I am legit confused.
