    What an interesting phone, never thought I'd see a phone with an actual HDD inside it

      Yep indeed, only few models with embedded hdds were ever produced (this one from Nokia and couple models from Samsung). Decreasing prices of flash memory together with its much greater reliability made it unfeasible to continue development of new hdd-phones.)

    Only wish that's it's possible to switch the hdd with an sd card, anything else that's the best music phone, ever.

      Indeed - considering that original MMC/SD is exactly same size as hdd (though a bit thinner of course), would be perfect switch. I was immediately looking for this swap possibility, but unfortunately nokia developed it's proprietary hdd connection and there are no adapters/schematics available.

    I was using 8gb black variant and it was damn good music player, this 4gb variant really sucks as HDD will get crashed often

    Is it possible to replace it with a mmc card, because it's not possible to find a replacement hdd.

      Indeed size-wise this hdd and mmc are almost identical, yet there is not any known way to replace hdd with mmc as the interfaces are entirely different. I remember finding some posts from a guy who tried to connect this tiny hdd to standard pc interface and had decent progress, yet unfortunately without final result.

      @@mmrlckt I am trying to find the exact same pin to pin match mmc to replace hdd. There are only 1 or 2 GB maximum capacity cards that were manufactured in the past with these same pins.

      @@mujtabakhan1117 That's quite interesting actually, because previously I was only looking at standard MMCs. Indeed MMCplus and MMCmobile have pins similar to this HDD, so potentially one may try to swap hdd for such mmc (max size I assume is 2gb). If I did not have working hdd I would definitely try to do so (and maybe I still would out of curiosity later :)

      @@mmrlckt hmmm isnt the microdrive use CF interface as in the ipods of the era ? People are doing multi gig hdd to microsd swaps with CF to SD adapters with old ipods.

      @mmrlckt  2 місяці тому

      @@leventebandi Unfortunately unlike toshiba hdds from ipods (that are easily swappable for CF-sd adapters) these tiny hdds are not easily compatible with CF (hdd itself is of the size of mmc card)
