MrDunlevy Everything you just said was very accurate. The Jerry Springer show wasn't as predictable as it is today but still there were some things you saw coming.n
I started watching Jerry Springer in the mid 90s and by then it was already a freak fest, all I've ever seen on the show are people arguing and fighting with their significant others
The very first fight was unplanned and very real on the Jerry Springer show. Since then, the producers got the idea to stage fights/scenarios for ratings. Call it an accidental success.
The studio was threatening the cancellation of the show. So Richard Dominic was brought in to revamp the show. As a result, it focused on more low brow, controversial themes. Although it saved the show from being cancelled, Maury and a few other talk show hosts followed that path. The only exception was Sally Jessy Raphael who was appalled by the low brow move and refused to make her show the same way, which lead to the decline in ratings and eventually cancelation of it. In mid 2005 when Wilkos occasionally took over hosting duties for Springer, his topics were quite similar to the earlier Springer: serious in tone and expanding on the "Steve to the Rescue".
jerry springer actually started off as a normal talk show along the lines of geraldo... things changed when he started doing racial/kkk shows and production realized the kind of characters that were being brought in and so the direction of the show changed and explored those types of characters, eventually evolving into the jerry springer show we are used to today
Even Geraldo moved away from being a "normal talk show," with sensationalist nonsense about Satanic ritual abuse and the infamous episode where he got his nose broken in a brawl between the KKK and Black guys.
@@IsmailofeRegime But to be fair, Geraldo truly did seem to believe what he proported. Not that he didn't fall into the shitstain baiting, but Springer started that nonsense. He was baiting people even before his nasty era. He wasn't provoking fights, but he still was trying to sow seeds of dissention and discord among guests. Even in the supposedly respectable era. Bey never had any pretenses and never did that dishonorable crap that Springer did. Still "Richard Bey" and "Morton Downey" both, well at the least latter, stomped both of those losers in the ratings. Even as New York area exclusive shows that were only on WWOR, they still did better in Secaucus/New York/Brooklyn than those 2 did nationally. Who even remembers "Geraldo"? And "Springer" is codeless.
I can't believe how come Jerry came from as a Responsible Serious man & after years later he becomes to a Fun,Goofy, Hilarious jokes Jerry wow thank you Jerry Springer to make me become a fan!! 💕❤️
Wow, the first season is drastically different than the seasons that followed. Looks like it was back when The Jerry Springer Show was taken seriously before they drastically changed it.
This was when I first started watching the show. I was in high school then. It has been the perfect example of what "selling out" means. How the years have passed.
"Maury" has always stood the same and didn't have the kind of "crap TV", as Hispanics would say, narcissism that permeated Bey, Springer, even Geraldo. He always had a decorum like Mathis, Joe Brown, Judy, etc.. Many of his episodes were about helping people, and I think Wilkos tried to rip him off, but to Wilko's credit, annoying and stupid though he may be, he's not a baiter. He truly gets pissed when bad people are on his show and he truly believes what he believes. Codeless but not a baiter like the show he came from.
Ripping "Bey" off because "Bey" was more popular in Secaucus/New York/Brooklyn than "Springer" ever was in America up until that time. And UPN was more popular than The WB. I'm reviving UPN and creating WB, a real Warner Bros. network. And "Seinfeld" was more popular than "Friends" worldwide. UPN was more Warner Bros.ish. While not officially a UPN show, "Bey" de-facto became one in 1995, when the show went into national syndication.
I’m so sad that Jerry Springer is gone. The first season was so professional and everyone behaved well. That’s nothing like all the other seasons. R.I.P. Jerry Springer
believe it or not Jerry Springer first two season he had really serious topics, David Duke, Clearance Thomas and other controvisial topics. you look at the show you would never think this is the same guy hosting due to the topics now.
Olly North on the very first episode of Jerry Springer, he was still a VERY controversial figure at that time and was still considered by many to be the "face of corruption in the government". Shocked he was the very first guest on Springer.

We can't really blame Jerry entirely for the freak show his program became.
