      I agree, especially when the show had like clowns and mimes in it, that even for how outrageous it got was bad, of course they went away from that and the FCC so the show now is entertaining, but predictable, All I can tell you is obvious, its all about ratings. The very first fight was unplanned and very real on the Jerry Springer show. Since then, the producers got the idea to stage fights/scenarios for ratings. Call it an accidental success.

    • @ladyfire44
      @ladyfire44 6 років тому +9

      The studio was threatening the cancellation of the show. So Richard Dominic was brought in to revamp the show. As a result, it focused on more low brow, controversial themes. Although it saved the show from being cancelled, Maury and a few other talk show hosts followed that path. The only exception was Sally Jessy Raphael who was appalled by the low brow move and refused to make her show the same way, which lead to the decline in ratings and eventually cancelation of it. In mid 2005 when Wilkos occasionally took over hosting duties for Springer, his topics were quite similar to the earlier Springer: serious in tone and expanding on the "Steve to the Rescue".

    jerry springer actually started off as a normal talk show along the lines of geraldo... things changed when he started doing racial/kkk shows and production realized the kind of characters that were being brought in and so the direction of the show changed and explored those types of characters, eventually evolving into the jerry springer show we are used to today

    • @IsmailofeRegime
      @IsmailofeRegime 5 років тому +4

      Even Geraldo moved away from being a "normal talk show," with sensationalist nonsense about Satanic ritual abuse and the infamous episode where he got his nose broken in a brawl between the KKK and Black guys.

    • @robjackson5245
      @robjackson5245 9 місяців тому +2

      @@IsmailofeRegime But to be fair, Geraldo truly did seem to believe what he proported. Not that he didn't fall into the shitstain baiting, but Springer started that nonsense. He was baiting people even before his nasty era. He wasn't provoking fights, but he still was trying to sow seeds of dissention and discord among guests. Even in the supposedly respectable era. Bey never had any pretenses and never did that dishonorable crap that Springer did.
      Still "Richard Bey" and "Morton Downey" both, well at the least latter, stomped both of those losers in the ratings. Even as New York area exclusive shows that were only on WWOR, they still did better in Secaucus/New York/Brooklyn than those 2 did nationally. Who even remembers "Geraldo"? And "Springer" is codeless.

      "Maury" has always stood the same and didn't have the kind of "crap TV", as Hispanics would say, narcissism that permeated Bey, Springer, even Geraldo. He always had a decorum like Mathis, Joe Brown, Judy, etc.. Many of his episodes were about helping people, and I think Wilkos tried to rip him off, but to Wilko's credit, annoying and stupid though he may be, he's not a baiter. He truly gets pissed when bad people are on his show and he truly believes what he believes. Codeless but not a baiter like the show he came from.

    • @robjackson5245
      @robjackson5245 9 місяців тому

      Ripping "Bey" off because "Bey" was more popular in Secaucus/New York/Brooklyn than "Springer" ever was in America up until that time. And UPN was more popular than The WB. I'm reviving UPN and creating WB, a real Warner Bros. network. And "Seinfeld" was more popular than "Friends" worldwide. UPN was more Warner Bros.ish. While not officially a UPN show, "Bey" de-facto became one in 1995, when the show went into national syndication.

      We can't really blame Jerry entirely for the freak show his program became. He did say on Steve Harvey's show once that when Universal bought Multimedia Entertainment (which originally produced and syndicated his show, Donahue, and Sally Jessy Raphael), they brought in the changes that we best remember the show for today. To their credit, even though I'm reluctant to give it to them, they knew what struck gold and they thought mindless pabulum like what we got over the years added up to success. It's kind of a shame his court show (yes, Jerry Springer has had a court show since 2019) is a little on the verge of taking that same direction.

    I first started watching Springer as a 13 year old in 1992. Some of the stuff was so powerful...the late Tweaky Dave, the great episode on racism where a Jewish audience member literally was having a little white girl raised by Klan members question her hate during a commercial break and they showed it. Originally, this was a substantive show that ironically took risks like the caricature of the show it became...but in a good way. It dared to really talk about things people weren't accustomed to seeing. Only problem is, no one was watching. Because that's America. We talk a good game, but in the end, we love the train wreck. A lot of smooth brained people watch the most television and it shows.

    Just imagine Jerry Springer kept up with this type of vibe to the show where he discuss serious matters like the AIDS epidemic or the War in Afghanistan instead of fights and couples fighting and also audiences roasting everyone on stage just think about how different the Muary show would’ve been

      Serious. The asshole was always a baiter. Sure he had a civilized way of doing it, mind you. But he loved sowing seeds of dissention and discord in guests even then.

    WTF are these looks ? It was 1991, not 1980 ! I can't believe I was born only 1 year later than this show which seems to come from another era ! Shit, I still feel young !

      I think its just Cincinnati leans more Conservative and plus most people he was talking to were square older people, it's not like teenagers of 1991 looked this way lol, the black girl at 1:24 doesn't look that dated.

    Yeah it is amazing how he went from interviewing Oliver North to what it had become. Does anybody still watch Jerry Springer anymore unless they come across it by mistake? I mean seriously. They need to end his show already.

    @darkpowrjd Actually, my mistake. Steve Wilkos' wife, Rachelle Consiglio, replaced Dominick, after the 18th season. It's not aired anywhere in my area currently, so I don't know if the fighting's been toned down or not because of her. Knowing NBC, they might want to keep Jerry if and when he stops doing this show for a news job at MSNBC or something. He's a good natured liberal (social and fiscal), so he'd fight right in at either MSNBC or Current!

    @newstarcadefan Actually, it wasn't NBC who did it.
    Two words to tell you where things turned: Richard Dominick! He's been the producer for Springer since 94, and he's the one who thought of getting the trashy guests. Everything else was history.
