    Our latest update...
    An AFP Amazon Freight Partner has been stopped and in process of prosecution for pulling a trailer without a ministry plate, an appearance with the Traffic Commissioner is currently in progress...

  • @jamesedwards7241
    @jamesedwards7241 2 місяці тому +8

    Any articulated vehicle will carry ''TWO'' Ministry plates, one for the tractor, normally fixed in the cab and one attached to the trailer frame. both are fixed in a tamper-proof water-resistant frame and if they are not there then sorry Amazon you are nicked and the trailer, tractor or both are often impounded until this is rectified. The problem is that it is the Drivers responsibility to see that these plates are in place and legible and he is in for a nicking if there are not. Fridges also carry another plate normally fixed to the front offside corner area showing when the fridge was last tested for compliance and accuracy, and that can also cause the driver issues if it is missing or not readable. . Just a few of those little niggling rules drivers are not always aware of but should be.

  • @tonycalow708

    The only answer is to refuse to pull the trailer if the plate is missing. If more drivers do this, and Amazons yards fill up with loaded trailers, they'll soon get the message!

    20 years ago i would have believed the police officer but nowadays, I would put money on the amazon logistics boss knowing if it's a law or a rule and if they can save money by not doing something that isn't required, they won't do it and I don't blame them.. From what I've seen over the last few years, the last person you stop and ask to clarify the law is a police officer.

      We have heard so many different believable versions that we do not know what to believe, this 1 year has came up before but these trailers are well over 12 months old and all built by the same coach builder.

      @@terryrance2662 new trailers DO come with the plate as you have to know the axle weights and how much the trailer is capable of carrying. Not all trailers are plated the same even with the same number of axles

    • @terryrance2662
      @terryrance2662 Місяць тому +1

      @@Ossie12pints Yes, but they are the manufacturers design plates. Truck and trailers have to go after the first 12 months for an inspection and every year thereafter. So let's say for arguments sake you have 45ft van trailer with twin wheels and tandem axles. You as a company only want to carry Styrofoam, you've done your figures and you want to save in running costs and decide you don't want 10 ton axles and want lower axle weight and lower road tax. You can then take a wheel off at each hub . When you go to the MOT station you will get an MOT plate issued for lesser axle weights. Road tax will be significantly reduced. Then if you are a bit of a rogue company ,you put the wheels back on and operate at max manufacturing weights and you take the risk of getting caught by the roadside checks. Apparently, we are lead to believe ,the operators haven't sent them for the
      First MOT inspection,hence no plate and current test certificate.

  • @chrisbamforth4125
    @chrisbamforth4125 Місяць тому +1

    A missing VTG (ministry) plate used to be a MOT fail. But that is no longer the case. If a trailer can be
    positively identified then it wouldn't even get an advisory for a missing VTG plate when presented for MOT.

    Don’t know how Amazon operate in Britain, but here in the States they are crap, and break every DOT rule, seemingly with out confidence. Rates are rubbish too. Here most of the distribution center to distribution center are carried on their own trailers with franchised contractors pulling them. They bid on routes and lease Amazon liveried tractor units. Most are 1 to 2 years old. Nobody will discuss the maintenance arrangements. The trailers are leased through a rental company but again no one discusses regular maintenance. There are different options when leasing and knowing Amazon they get the cheapest. Long distance trips are covered by owner operators with no experience and old raggedly arse trucks. Again working for peanuts. Most of these guys wouldn’t get insured or hired by decent employers, either for previous tickets or their criminal record. There is no Vehicle operator licensing, or driver CPC. Drivers get hired straight out if driving school with absolutely no experience every day here. People who should never have a CDL.
    If an owner driver is caught with a defective trailer, be it listed on his operators license or Amazons he will get the ticket and it will be up to the Traffic commissioner to deal with. Again not 100% up to date on the legislation but I would of thought unless trading as a trailer rental or sales company they should have an operating center and operators license for trailers with a Transport manager responsible for maintenance, records and DOT inspection. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇺🇸

      @@rookietrucker1968 Thinking about it Amazon must be buying their trailers. No trailer rental company would miss an annual inspection as they own that trailer and are liable for its condition at least once a year.
      You can rent while doing your own maintenance on the trailer but it needs to be listed on your operators license or margin.
      They are crooks, and need a visit from the Ministry. Shut them down for a few weeks until it’s sorted.
      Then owner drivers or contractors need to up the rates 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇺🇸

      Swedish cops didn't know about this and tried to fine drivers pulling UK trailers for not having a plate. They were asked what plate to put there. The truck's the cops said, like they do in UK. Illegal because you can't put a random plate on a trailer. It's false plating obviously. In the Netherlands, there's a law (maybe revoked?) that says you should put your truck plate over the trailer plate. They are allowed to do that on UK trailers. We are not.

    My understanding is that Amazon have something called a ''Home Office Agreement'' by that it has an agreement with all the regulatory authorities in the Uk, and Ireland. that if they want any details about Amazon, how it operates, equipment properties personnel etc. The local authority that thinks it has found a breach has to by the fact that information is not visible, displayed etc has to contact Amazons Home Office, (also known as the Head Office), the compliance department within the Head Office then provide them with the details.. This also means that Amazon know what is happening within their operation, and where necessary, all prosecutions go through their Head Office and are dealt with by them. A lot of multi nationals operate like this. . I think I am correct in saying that Wal-Mart when it used to own ASDA operated this way.

    Amazon and those other freight companies must be held responsible and accountable for safe, legal operation of their trailers, etc.
    These freight companies do over honest owner/drivers on fair rates of pay regardless of where they operate.

    Just a small reminder to ALL drivers! It is an offence to knowingly taking a vehicle (including trailer) on a public highway in a faulty or un-roadworthy condition. If the trailer does not have its "MOT" plate affixed, it must be classed as un-roadworthy and therefore, un-safe. It is a Legal Requirement to have these "plates" in place on ANY commercial vehicle (and trailers)!
