So for like the first 2 minutes i was like "wow, those two guys are really good", and then they zoom and to show the whole freakin pit doing the exact same thing. Jeez that's amazing.
Caleb we always make MCBA states and often get I's at festival. He's the director of all the high school bands plus half of the middle school bands in the district (this also means he's in charge of marching band which is competitive, jazz band, and pit for musicals)
Caleb The HS only has three actual classes for band. MB, jazz, and pit are after school. He does HS in the morning, MS in the afternoon, and coming back to the HS for extra-curriculars after school
I just showed this to my husband. He's from England. I was never in DCI, really didn't know what it was when I was in high school marching band in Kentucky. Anyway, my husband said "WOW!!!!". I told him "if you ever hear someone say they can play the mirimbas.......", my husband's response was "no, you can't!" (in his English accent) :D
At first you're wondering why that first guy looks like he's gonna murder someone... then you realize they've probably done dozens of reps... I get so bored in pit sometimes 😂
Emory Blake in my show i have nothing more than two bars rest and it gets so boring some times. your instructor has said one more rep about 50 times and by that point your so done you imagine the keys as their face
He just looks so done with this section. But then I remember making similar faces in my day having to rehearse the same damn licks over and over again.
Oh trust me those arn't amplified. Yamaha red marimbas are loud as fuck. The tunning is unbelievable. We have one at my high school. And i like to play on it when the other percussionists arn't around.
That’s how it feels at this point in the season. At least 60% of their time rehearsing for the last two or three weeks is just this part. They’re super over it.
The only dirt in this lick comes from the initial turn-arounds. Definitely hard to spin your body while coming in together with someone 10 feet away. And I'll just point out that, once again, space is the bane of every percussionist.
Bass splits are much more difficult timing-wise. The timing difficulty for this is routine for a bass drum player. The other stuff is incredibly impressive
2:43 guy on speaker says "or missle like objects are not allowed. Please return them to your cars." Yeah so hey you know how you were gunna bring a missile in... yeah can you just leave that in your car. kay thanks :)
This amazing and that speed is midblowing found the sheet music for going to to get me and my friend that plays with me on the marimba to at least attempt this
Oh and dependin on where you hit the key's on the keyboard can really project the sound. And those malets probably had something on them to boost the sound even more. Just science to research..
Those 2 guys were hot, lol. But really, that was pretty darn awesome. I'd be pretty tired after working on the same thing countless times. I know the feeling already, heh.
From my understanding, you take the top 10 or 20 players of any instrument, in any state, and maybe a couple make DCI. That's what I was told, it could be an exaggeration. DCI is apparently expensive to participate in, and INCREDIBLY intense and difficult to practice and perform in. My utmost respect for anyone in DCI.
Just when you think it can't get any cooler, the drum set player drops a back beat. So good.

they're so fucking clean i didnt know the rest of the pit was playing to lmao
2:28: pans back and I have to laugh at myself - I thought it was one marimba up to that point.
Yup
And that is what we call clean
they are so clean i first thought it was only one marimba
You see that thing on the floor down there?! Yeah, that's my jaw.
the guy that plays first is my band teacher now he's 25
UpWards 150 i also have a band teacher that was in there but you can barely see him, he's all the way on the other end
My BD is 29 now but he was hired here right out of college (when he was 22)

The drum set groove is great

Im also in a high school marching band in Kentucky!!
@@kristinatolle3638 You don't have to answer if you don't want to, I'm curious what band you're in.
Also, ever heard of the VR game called Paradiddle?
At first you're wondering why that first guy looks like he's gonna murder someone... then you realize they've probably done dozens of reps... I get so bored in pit sometimes 😂
Emory Blake actually it does get boring because waiting to play those notes isn't exciting
Emory Blake in my show i have nothing more than two bars rest and it gets so boring some times. your instructor has said one more rep about 50 times and by that point your so done you imagine the keys as their face
If it makes you feel better my tenor part wasn't all that lol
Eve but pit is where its at
He just looks so done with this section. But then I remember making similar faces in my day having to rehearse the same damn licks over and over again.
This reminds me of the physically and musically demanding virtuosic keyboard playing of top corps in the 80s and 90s. Awesome stuff!
Stuff like this makes me regret being a woodwind instrument
I'm a pit player, but I love watching these DCI videos :)
Oh trust me those arn't amplified. Yamaha red marimbas are loud as fuck. The tunning is unbelievable. We have one at my high school. And i like to play on it when the other percussionists arn't around.
There is a reason I would become a man just so I can be in the Cavaliers
Fake it until you make it
@@ems7623 mulan
That’s the only reason? Lol
my teacher gave us homework it was to watch this
mr vogt is awesome
They look annoyed as fuck lol
Chad Carden instructor probably said "one more time" about 20 times

God man. I love them so much.
and everyone talks about the bass split...
Naw. Everyone talks about the quad break
Bass splits are much more difficult timing-wise. The timing difficulty for this is routine for a bass drum player. The other stuff is incredibly impressive
Basses split 32nd notes and more sometimes. Nobody said this wasn't impressive but you can't compare to the bassline they're beasts
2:43 guy on speaker says "or missle like objects are not allowed. Please return them to your cars." Yeah so hey you know how you were gunna bring a missile in... yeah can you just leave that in your car. kay thanks :)
lol
Still watching this in 2024…. This will never not be cool
omg i miss indy. hearing that announcer guy makes me miss dci
This amazing and that speed is midblowing found the sheet music for going to to get me and my friend that plays with me on the marimba to at least attempt this
extremely professional and i love it
Wow, I thought it was just the first two doing the splits...then there were 8
and the Fred Sanford Best Percussion Performance Award goes to...
Is there anyway I can get the sheet music for that duo marimba part in the beggining
They are sooo cute!!
I find that hilarious on several levels.
still amazing
tfw your corp can only afford 1 marimba that year
John Esparza They had like 6 that year
Samuel Bang r/wooooooooshhhhh
I'm not a big fan of electronics, but last year (2011) was kind of an over-stimuli year. Hey, the shows were pretty nice last year!
Oh my goood.. Its amazing!!!!
is there a way to get sheet music for this
Transcribe it
I'm a battery kinda guy but damn I love this!!
shows you how in sync they are.
And super cute, too. Loving those expressions :D
Anywhere in the world where I would be able to find music for this? A friend and I are interested in attempting this.
Oh and dependin on where you hit the key's on the keyboard can really project the sound. And those malets probably had something on them to boost the sound even more. Just science to research..
darn it ill have to move my back pack and missile like object party else where
how many times you think they practiced this
Anyone know what kind of wristbands they use?
@coolcooja yes they are!!
That's pretty fucking cool
Lol the left guys is just like "I am not amused" XD
Impressive, to say the very very least.
this is amazing!
Is there any way of getting the music for this? I would love to practice it.
That escalated quickly.. No but yeah, living 10 minutes away from Lucas Oil/RCA Dome for my entire life i'm fairly used to this lol
Haha, I thought the same thing when I was in Indy this past summer. xD
whos the guy thats starts off the split?
@xAJAxTv Have any idea where I could find it online? Preferably for free haha.
Mind was blown after seeing the rest of the group
what kind of mallets are those
Get it Randy!
I think they're jim casella series IP1003.
Anyone know where i can get this sheet music for this part?
@jai9599 sooo. . . diddles. right?
That is so beast!!!!
Those 2 guys were hot, lol. But really, that was pretty darn awesome. I'd be pretty tired after working on the same thing countless times. I know the feeling already, heh.
Yes, very attractive.
@jai9599 which, in theory, what a "diddle" is....
you think these guys are good friends?
Maybe me :D
How tf do you roll on a marimba
they look so excited...
excellent
I can't with this video.
Everything about it just.
Unf.
because its the whole pit playing. You just can't see them.

Ashley Aye musescore.com/user/1591356/scores/662351

Brianna Del Rey hey, the score is closed. Anyway you can re open it again?
Haha that guys face at the end "What bitch."
Sheet music?
I love the smaller guys face a 3:02 and 3:29
Sexy, isn't he :D
I wonder how much cavies spend on hair gel per season....
Anyone have the sheet music?
Music?
how do you bounce with mallets?
Abraham Im - it’s called pulsing, it helps you stay in time and when the whole pit is pulsing together, it looks real nice 👍
Muscle Memory
It's probably because there's like 6-7 Marimbas together.
And this just makes me sadder that I'm a girl and can't march Cavies :(
the whole time im here thinking its two guys.. and its the entire mallet section -__-
how the hell do they memorize this!

i heard it right as i read this lol
HOLY SHIT THAT LOOK FROM THE GUY ON THE RIGHT AT THE VERY END..... AAAHHHHHHH
Please I want music! Please!!
Go to Noteflight and search Cavaliers 2011 Marimba Splits :3
Very cool. That's all.
bad design to have this pit feature and the upside-down tenor feature happening at the same time
even the cymbal roll was so tasty!
No they were not amplified. I just got lucky and found a spot right up front to watch them.
That's fye af 😝😱
สุดยอดมาก
both of the guys are on the left at one point.
This part distracted me from the upside down tenor break...:)
RANDY!!!
So pro haha, reminds me of Stubernic
Are they doing diddles?
it says it at 0:53 too!
Anyone have some sheet music? haha
SKILLS!!!!
This is so much more impressive than all the upside-down nonsense, it's not even funny.
