There is a saying, a great martial arts teacher is hard to find…but a great student is even harder to seek [worse than needle in haystack]… I had heard from Master Su Yu Zhang that GM Li-Shuwen had thought GM Liu Yun-Chiao was one of those rare gems… Perhaps that is why GM Li was willing to spend and devote his time to GM Liu… Thanks for all these, I had forgotten a lot of the stories Master Su had shared…
Another great history lesson about our lineage. It’s awesome to learn about TCMAs and the practitioners to see how we got to modern times and how it has changed, if it has changed.
Yes, so many “masters” claim that they were JKC’s bodyguards… but only GM Liu still has pictures to prove and the Taiwan government still has Bajiquan as hand to hand combat as required curriculum.
Can you shed some light on some other lineages of bajiquan like Wu family (Mengcun)? and Han Huachen (who was a contemporary of lizhuwen). As i've read lishuwen actually had quite a many students who started their own lineages. And does the lishuwen lineage (liu yun qiao) has piguazhang (piguaquan) in it's curriculum too?
I don’t know enough about the Wu lineage, all I know is that Wu Xiu-Feng was an outstanding martial master (Wu LianZi’s father). Han Huang Chen was not Li ShuWen’s disciple but they were kungfu brothers. Han Hua Chen was considered equal in ability to Li, there’s a saying “North Li, South Han.” As Li was undefeated in the northern 5 provinces and Han was the same in the south. Li Shu Wen had many disciples, 26 that were traceable. Several of which did have their own lineages, but the famous ones were the Huo’s, the Zhang’s, the Wei’s and the Liu’s(Taiwan). Yes, we do have PiguaZhang. As Li was responsible to combine Pigua and Baji together.

Great lesson, I learned about Liu Yun Qiao from the old Japanese manga “Kenji” which summarizes his life that you had described. 谢谢

'he had all of the opportunities but didnt waste them' - incumbent on all serious Wutan students to aspire to repay that debt
True that!
Always interesting to hear these stories and since it's all recent history alot of it can be verified.
