The maps remind me of parking up for a Reading game at the Madejski, and being approached by a confused woman, clutching a map, asking for directions to get to Shinfield. I'm not surprised she was confused, as the map was so old that it didn't even have the M4 marked on it.

I saw Burghfield at the bottom of the map and reminded me of when I first enlisted there when I joined the WRNS. I'd forgotten the name of the place so thanks for the reminder. I think the camp was Dauntless. Nice photos of Reading BTW 😉

Yes, it was HMS Dauntless. In the 1950's my Uncle worked there as a plumber with the maintenance team.
RAF Shinfield Park staff visited on dance nights. Man overboard yelled whenever we took a shortcut across the grass.
