Happy Birthday Gene! As much as I absolutely adore the Byrds version, something I have performed myself many times, this is the most achingly beautiful version, THE BEST, because it’s just your pain and passion, bared so vulnerably, that yes, even tops that magnificent arrangement and those killer harmonies from the Byrds release. Magnificent in its simplicity. You (and those other Byrds guys, lol) were SUCH an influence to me. Peace to you brother on your birthday and always.
As a guitarist myself, my Top Two groups were always the Byrds and the Beatles: Melody, harmony, cool guitar sound, taste. Gene Clark was such a major presence. How I miss him, along with the Byrds. Hard to believe Crosby is gone, having left us at age 81. Rest in peace Gene Clark and David Crosby..

Overlooked. Must have seen but underrated. great song very nice pics. Ty for the share Catherine. Any data available. Know it but hard to place it. The whole gig must be a blast.
I've always said the original version of this should have been a #1 single! This is so heartrending but then so was Gene's entire career.
Gene had the voice of the ages, and his words were so deep that they revealed all his heart and soul. He is surely missed, but we do have his music.
this slowed down version delivers the beat of a broken heart..
What a lovely man Gene was.
A wonderful rendition. Like no other.
This echoes through the years with a gravity of beauty that time will never wear away.
WOW - this is the first time I have heard this version - it's a whole different mood than the fast version.
