Hi Jessica, Break the Idli into small pieces with your hand, dip into the Chutneys and pop into your mouth with your hand. The same thing with vada. So the sauce is called chutney, the green colored one is the mint chutney. The white colored chutney is normally made with coconut. white chutney could also be made with peanut.

The food does look authentic and prepared with care. The one major thing that you missed out on your eating experience is, eating the food with your hands. That's the traditional way of enjoying these foods and we feel that our food is much more enjoyable when eaten this way. Another amazing South Indian experience is to have a meal on a banana leaf. Hey Alphonso and Jessica , Let me tell you how we make that Tomato onion chutney. 1. Take 2 Tomatoes, 4 onions. The Ratio is 2:4 2. Put some oil in a pan and cook onions and tomatoes until the colour changes. 3. Let it cool 4. Meanwhile, in a pan put some oil chillie and roast it 5. Mix the chillies with the Tomato and onion and blend it in a blender. Add some salt while blending. Also if you want the chutney to be tangy, then use more tomatoes and less onions. :)
Alternately, toss in roughly chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, a few pods garlic, a little tamarind or tamarind paste, few pieces of dried red chili, microwave for 10 mins... Once cool, blitz in the blender, add salt to taste... temper with mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp in oil, once it sputters, add urad dal 1/2 tsp & curry leaves... add the blended chutney to the tempering pan, let simmer for a few minutes & store. Sorry to correct you, but coming from a south Indian - It is cute how you ate the idills with bare hands but we never do but use a spoon for those. The tomato or the green chutney has no added yoghurt. The sambar.. what you called "lentil soup" has no added cinnamon to it at all. There are no added veggies but coconut chunks and peppercorns for the "spiced doughnut" which is called a Vada. @@sidharthaajithprasad1229 Mate, in Tamil (South Indian) food culture 'rice' is known as BRAIN FOOD. The brain gets energy from a substance called glucose, which is found largely in starchy foods like rice, because it releases energy slowly and help the brain to function in stable way. This is one of factor why South Indians have low rate of mental related illness. Rice is not just limited to white rice but varieties which has different medicinal value. It is prepared differently and consumed on daily basis, better than wheat and other grains.🙂

Hi there, happy for you guys for getting to know how the indian food tastes, but please do try to eat them with your hands because using your hands and mixing the curry and the rise and naan will enhance the taste. It will make the food mix more evenly and give a explosion of tastes. There is no special type of mixing different curry with your food, each curry will give your it's own unique flamour. The crispy bread you told is called Paappad in north and Pappadam in kerala and even in Tamil Nadu. Keep on trying new tastes... Thank you❤️❤️
Loved ur vlog. Just one advice if I may . Indian food generally is eaten hot. U shud order and den ask them to bring it with a little time gap. Am surprised the restaurant waiters havnt done this on their own. In India they bring main dishes after entree.
That yoghurt sauce is called raita that can be taken with biryani or indian breads like naan, parata and chapathi. We break the breads, dosa and idly into bite sized pieces and dip them into the chutneys and gravies(sauces). Generally idly/dosa with coconut chutney and then dipped in sambhar
You will always get some kind of sauce/chutney with Indian dishes. But that does not mean you will have to dip every bite of the food in it and with heavy quantity. Indian chutneys/sauces are very strong in taste and domitate the actual food taste when dipped. So recomemded is to taste the food without sauce at first and sometime. Have chutney sometime but not with every bite 😊
The crispy fried bread is actually not a bread but appalam that we take as an accompaniment, we break and mix with rice+gravy and have.you can dosa/idly with one of those non veg gravies. For vegetarian option you can have dosa/idly with chutney(coconut/tomato) and sambhar
1. The yogurt sauce with the fish and goat chettinad is called a raita. It's a palette cleanser eaten not with the fish / meat. It's usually eaten between bites of fish / meat to cut the intensity of the spice. 2. The crispy Naan u talked about is not bread. It's made of either rice or lentils. It's just used to enhance the texture of the food. It's called papad in North India and poppadum in South India Also Naan is the North West Indian word for bread. What you are eating is probably called porotta. Glad u liked the food!!!!
The best way to savour the idly and vada is the idly vada dip and pour 2 cups of chutney which is available on the top and by the time u take to table, mix the idly’s ❤️❤️ Legendary

Thank you❤️❤️
This crunchy thing made me laugh😀 looks amazing I worked in Bangalore and loved the food

Wish I was there to let u know how to eat these dishes 😅😅Im a south indian btw 😁
Dosa,sambar,chutney oo wow
Lovely video. 👍
Heads up- avoid saying yogurt for every thing. Except the accompaniment for Biryani, nothing was yogurt.
Thank you
Even raita is not yogurt
yes this is one of best south Indian restaurant in Vancouver.. worth it. I like chicken 65 there.
This is the power of Indian flavor 😍
You will always get some kind of sauce/chutney with Indian dishes. But that does not mean you will have to dip every bite of the food in it and with heavy quantity.
Indian chutneys/sauces are very strong in taste and domitate the actual food taste when dipped. So recomemded is to taste the food without sauce at first and sometime. Have chutney sometime but not with every bite 😊
Love your expressions after eating. So genuine. Well done Jessica and Alfonsos!
Everything looks taste🥰🥰🥰I'm hungry
This restaurant looks good.
Mam, you're the one who ate the food in a correct way 😊 like an Indian
Thank you so much 😀
Amazing vlog...and tuly said by you.... south Indians are lucky 😃❤️
The crispy fried bread is actually not a bread but appalam that we take as an accompaniment, we break and mix with rice+gravy and have.you can dosa/idly with one of those non veg gravies. For vegetarian option you can have dosa/idly with chutney(coconut/tomato) and sambhar
25:40 that's finger licking is just proper south Indian 🤣🤣 no good meal is complete without that
It's called papad in North India and poppadum in South India
Also Naan is the North West Indian word for bread.
What you are eating is probably called porotta.
Glad u liked the food!!!!
That is not Sauce 😂 it's called "Chutney "
Taste of India. Shubhkamnayein
Love your food vlogs ma'am ❤. Love from India🇮🇳 😄❤
Thank you so much!
Same time i am too having coffee (in India), lots of love from India
Should have started with dosa...while it was warm and crispy...by the time you got to it im sure it was soft and a tad bit soggy
Wow I just love you the way you loved India and for that song which you had puted on this vlog😂😅
The fact That masala dosa costs 1$-2$ in India 🇮🇳 🇮🇳
British are just finding out about South- Indian food, thanks.
I just hope nothing on the table got wasted.
And I doubt on that
2:28 South Indian Coffee. Aka Filter coffee is authentic if they serve it in a brass or stainless steel Tumbler And 'Dabara'
The best way to savour the idly and vada is the idly vada dip and pour 2 cups of chutney which is available on the top and by the time u take to table, mix the idly’s ❤️❤️
Legendary
You will love Indian cuisine but a little spicy..come to India soon after COVID over
We will love to come to India one day! :)
