Today I got off work, got a few beers and went to my buddy’s house to listen to this album, he introduced me to them 30 years ago. After all we been through this year, after all acdc went through the past few years it brings me so much joy to have my favourite band come with something so strong this far in their career. Demon fire, through the mists of time and witch’s spell gave me goosebumps. They’re such great tunes. If this is the last one, it’s a damn fine one.
Thanks so much for sharing your plans you did with your buddy last night! I did a very similar thing..a friend of 35 years and I went to liquor store and hung out jamming the new album together...we just have played it 4 times lol!!! Yeah we had a blast much like we did in the early eighties...well...minus not being able to hit the liquor store in the early eighties! Lol
@@chadmiller4601 Awesome to hear that! Like my buddy said after we drank our beers and listened to the album a few times: let's turn this into a ritual. Hopefully in a couple of years they release more tunes and we can do this again. Cheers!
No it's not the last one yet yes I love the power up album acdc did fans very proud and mal young would be very proud of them to especially his brother angus I love power up more then rock or bust. I must have had power up on about 15 times since early this morning great great great album and through the mist of time is going to be a masterpiece it reminds me of anything goes acdc sound like the 80s again brian sounds like hes in his 30s which to me is amazing. There not a bad song on power up I love them all
Angus said he and mal wrote and jammed to unreleased acdc tunes angus said they could be more albums and tours on the way he wont stop unless he has to so we could have more albums and tours after power up I hope brian is able to do another album and tour too
A great new album. Top review, Barry. My favourite song is Through The Mists Of Time. Many excellent songs on the album. Brian sounds rejuvenated on this album.
Firstly this is a great review - I do enjoy all your reviews, great turn of phrase! I have been an AC/DC fan for many years (since Highway to Hell came out), and although I always look forward to the band releasing a new record, it is always with a bit of trepidation. Waiting six/seven/eight years plus for two or three solid tracks is quite an ask - like others here I don't think they have done a really good album since The Razors Edge, and certainly nothing great since Back in Black. I think the band know this, in all fairness - after all, they usually only play a couple of new tracks on each tour, and these are then dropped for the next tour. Thunderstruck is the only song to survive the test of time of their more recent efforts, and that was 30 years ago! And I don't think fans want to hear something completely different, but they do want to hear something that doesn't sound as if it was knocked out in five minutes! And for me, Power Up achieves this.I have listened to it a few times today, and honestly believe it is the best thing they have done since The Razors Edge. Part of this might be that they seem to consciously be trying to do something a bit different on a couple of the tracks - Through the Mists of Time is one of these, and also harking back to the great Bon Scott era - Wild Reputation reminds me of What's Next to the Moon from Powerage, for example. Maybe not quite 'all killer, no filler' but I would happily keep listening to over half these tracks, and would love to see them played live - and I haven't felt like that listening to a new AC/DC album in a very long time. The production, Brian's singing, and the bands playing all sounds great. Let's face it, we were never going to get another Back in Black, or hear the likes of Whole Lotta Rosie on here, but I think it is a massive step up from the last four studio efforts, and considering all that has gone on over the last few years, surely AC/DC have got to be congratulated on that?
Ballbreaker was their best sounding album vere, no doubt - I don't think Power Up has as much ballsiness in its sound. But BB was definitely and overlooked classic!
The sound and production on PWR/UP reminds me of The Razor's Edge. Even the backing vocal chorus of "Realize" is reminiscent of those on "Thunderstruck.' It seems as though they went for a similar sound dynamic. It's straightforward, meaty, and electric sounding. That is how TRE hit me the first time that I heard it. It's a mature, classic and yet with a fresh sheen.
I’m a big AC/DC fan. I’ve listened to it 5 times already and for me I think it’s already their best album since The Razors Edge 30 years ago. It’s also surprisingly experimental in spots. At least by their standards. Unlike you I didn’t think Rock Or Bust was disappointing at all. But this is better and more energised, no doubt!
I also fail to see how anyone could find " rock or bust ' disappointing. Full of killer stonking tracks. " Dogs of war ' ' baptism by fire ' 2 of my favs, " hard times ' an emotional track & times got even harder ! B4 getting better

Yes, Rock or Bust is good album, just the sound wasn't there, if it was the recording/production, or maybe just the lack of their energy? Just didn't do it's justice. But here, and after all, they sound like they play on stadium 30 years ago, can't get over it. Bone deep as someone said..Brian like he pushed his own limits and 73 y. old!?
Every damn song on this album is a winner. Every review I've seen has been great. Malcolm would be proud as I am of the band. Stevie sounds excellent. But the band as a whole came together. They haven't sounded this tight for many years. Just a brilliant album and a good way to end this dismal year. Thanks AC/DC.
Each their album have it's own theme, vibe and sound to it. But this one somehow travels through all of AC/DC timeline, great great sounding, nostalgic, who-ever-doubt-in-us-here-you-go, so the band really is PWRUP! Fills me with joy, excitement, chokes my throat, like any other record, so.. The sound, you can tell they play really hard, Brian sounds like he's gonna spill his guts..and at this age? Too good to be true. I would say allot more, but just can't find words to describe it's greatness:) They really went all out..for Malcolm. AC/DC forever
An absolute triumph of an album after everything the band have had to endure over the last five years. Back In Black apart, arguably their strongest album of the Brian Johnson era.
To me, it's probably the second worst album of the Johnson era behind Rock or Bust. Too poppy and radio-friendly. And the sound is much too bombastic. Less is more.
I love the album and am so grateful for it!! Great review! I hope for ours' sake, the mixing team didn't reach for plug ins and stereo wideners in the production process, but only shows we all get softer with old age...

The world NEEDS a new classic-style AC/DC album......bad. I mean really bad. May just be about the best and only good thing that happened this year. Let's hope we can get past this pandemic crap and have this band get out on a tour.....I'll be taking my entire family. We saw them last time on the "Black Ice" tour....the band blistered and shred. Easily in the top 5 johnson era albums i would go. 1. back in black 2. Razors edge 3. Power up 4. for those about to rock 5. flick of the switch. Struggling to find a bad or even average song on it
This is solid, fun AC/DC. No way is it the best since For Those About to Rock. I think Ballbreaker and Stiff Upper Lip will bring me back more than this
Lovely review of an album that will be forgotten about, and not played in 7 weeks time by most people. Good on the band for a superb promo campaign though. Saturation...
@@classicalbum I listened to a couple of tracks on UA-cam. Sounds pretty damn good. Johnson sounded really good. I was delighted to see as much of the band back together as possible.
I credit two songs for inspiring my love of rock n roll. Poundcake by Van Halen and Highway to Hell by AC/DC. When I was 10 and would play these songs in my room my Mom threatened to throw out my CD player so I knew I was onto something good. 2020 has been a a bittersweet year for me in regards to my musical idols. I don’t think I’ll ever get over the loss of Eddie Van Halen, but thank god AC/DC is not only still around, but still putting out quality new music.
Listened to it a couple of times now. So far I have enjoyed it, I think it is really good. Not one of the all time best but still up there with the other great albums that aren't in their top 3.
I'm with ya on this one. Not your disappointment on last one. I really liked title track, miss adventure, sweet candy, rock the house. Rest were good enough for me. Coulda been a song or two longer. I also thought the return to form came after Razors Edge and stayed great. But we're both fans at the end of the day.
Hey all acdc fans, after buying the cd album I have realized how much bloody better the album sounds on cd through a great system compared to on youtube via the computers shittty speakers. Great album, go out buy it and support artist so we can enjoy more great music.
I've been with them since the beginning as a 10 y.o, Bon Scott is laid to rest just up the road from me in East Fremantle, Great Album, Its amazing they're still going, Every track has been provided free here in Oz on UA-cam as of 13/11.
if it anit broke dont fix it yup spot on rhythm guitar could have done with more distortion a bit more of the raw feel the production is so smooth Hail Malcolm \m/
Dont forget angus Brian phil cliff and stevie young they did this album for mal but I would like to give all band members credit due it's a fantastic album the power of it incredible brian voice living legend angus on guitars those riffs outstanding I dont know why people complain if you dont like acdc dont listen to them
I love AC/DC. This album however, is just not that good. There just doesn't seem to be any real hooks in their music now. It is all very nostalgic and I am glad they are still around. Their earlier releases are just better. I hope they can tour again so I can see them one last time before they croak.
I agree overall, can pick around 5 tracks I like. I'm happy about it but a bit miffed peeps are raving about it . More to rave about with R.o.B + B.I I think
Acdc to me was always the band you listen and play alobg to when you first start practicing on an instrument. Not saying the music is bad just that its straight rock and pretty simple
No need to get moist about this record - yes, it's better than their last 4-5 abominations, but it's not better than 'Flick of the Switch' or 'Fly on the Wall', which were the last two decent records AC/DC made. Having said that, the world needs an AC/DC right now, more than ever. An average AC/DC record is better than 99% of the shit that passes for modern music these days .....
Well said. People getting way too excited about this release talking rubbish for U tube click bait about where it sits in their overall canon of work just because it is a new album. Nobody goes to see The Stones to hear their latest and same applies to AC/DC. Nothing will ever beat the rush when I got BiB home as a 14 year old in ‘80 and dropped the needle on it...
Just got it through the door this morning and have listened it 3 times in a row, is is a great album straight away? In my opinion no, it's a good album, there are no in your face rockers like whole lotta Rosie, highway to hell etc, they sound as if they are winding down on this album, very middle of the road stuff and guitars solos! Where?? 15 to 20 seconds of doodling here and there not like the old days, sorry this will be just another dc album to me playing in the background, marks out of 10 after 3 listens 5, 6 at the most. Sorry but they have lost the magic without malcolm, Angus is just going through the motions here without his brother, give me bon and malcolm back. The positive things they are still doing it and great to see Phil rudd back. But to say it is their best album since for those about to rock is a very bold statement indeed.
For me it will probably be like all of their albums since Flick of the Switch (their last really good, and underrated, album), a solid, enjoyable but filler-heavy album that I will listen to for a few weeks and then it will join the collection and be passed over in the main for stuff from their classic period. I think it's probably impossible for them to produce a truly bad album (though their worst album Razors Edge would probably be about a 5 out of 10 for me, at most), but every album they release now seems to get rave reviews from fans as being their best since BIB (though i actually prefer FTATR) when they intially come out, and then opinions change a bit with time.
This is the best album AC/DC have released since Ballbreaker back in 1995. It is the classic AC/DC sound and every track on this album sounds awesome.
The rest has done Brian's voice the world of good, he sounds great.
Yes he does. Excellent album.

I love it specially Demon Fire and Code Red those 2 are badass
1. Back in Black 2. For Those About to Rock 3. Flick of the Switch 4. Power Up
"Like someone sanding down old furniture" - good line about Brian Johnson's voice.
I have long compared Mr. Johnson's voice to flossing with razor wire. Dude's still got it!
Picking it up in the morrow. EXCITED!
Can’t wait to hear it
This is a grower of an album
THEY ARE ALL FANTASTIC ALBUMS. EVEN BON ERA,CHEERS
Great album...no bullshat.... no computers or sampling......pure rock and roll.
If it ain't broken why fix it > word 👍!
Easily the best Rock band ever. amazing album
We are BACK ! Greetings from Belgium :-)
Hello there!
Listened to it a couple of times now. So far I have enjoyed it, I think it is really good. Not one of the all time best but still up there with the other great albums that aren't in their top 3.
also thanks for the review
It does indeed live up to the hype. I like every AC/DC album but Power Up is quite a bit stronger than Rock Or Bust.
Thank you for watching
Hey all acdc fans, after buying the cd album I have realized how much bloody better the album sounds on cd through a great system compared to on youtube via the computers shittty speakers. Great album, go out buy it and support artist so we can enjoy more great music.
I've been with them since the beginning as a 10 y.o, Bon Scott is laid to rest just up the road from me in East Fremantle, Great Album, Its amazing they're still going, Every track has been provided free here in Oz on UA-cam as of 13/11.
I LOVE IT!!
You have a talent with words.
Thank you
if it anit broke dont fix it yup spot on rhythm guitar could have done with more distortion a bit more of the raw feel the production is so smooth Hail Malcolm \m/
Dont forget angus Brian phil cliff and stevie young they did this album for mal but I would like to give all band members credit due it's a fantastic album the power of it incredible brian voice living legend angus on guitars those riffs outstanding I dont know why people complain if you dont like acdc dont listen to them
I know I am weird but this review made me cry because I get overwhelmed with joy that not all of my hero’s aren’t dead yet.
Not weird at all. Thanks for watching
I love AC/DC. This album however, is just not that good. There just doesn't seem to be any real hooks in their music now.
It is all very nostalgic and I am glad they are still around. Their earlier releases are just better. I hope they can tour again so I can see them one last time before they croak.
I agree I was a bit disappointed. Some good songs but seems flat throughout. I’m trying to get into it but not yet found the hooks.
Well said. Agree 100%.
They are getting older and slowing down, you have to take that into consideration that they are not in their 20's anymore.
Otherwise a very good review, but! Black Ice must bee seen as one of the all time AC/DC albums for sure! Personally I rate it 9.5/10
This new AC album is an all out balls to the walls album. This thing rocks!!
Rock or Bust is terrific! So is Power Up 🔥
No need to get moist about this record - yes, it's better than their last 4-5 abominations, but it's not better than 'Flick of the Switch' or 'Fly on the Wall', which were the last two decent records AC/DC made.
Great album. Better than Black Ice and Rock or Bust.
It's got that special ambience that can only be AC/DC. Music to identify with.
But to say it is their best album since for those about to rock is a very bold statement indeed.
should this be the last album for acdc .. it is that good .. . go out in style
