When we volunteered to serve, we knew that that choice could easily lead to injury, death, or the kind of permanent scars that others can’t see. It is a risk we all knowingly accepted, so that others could safely enjoy their freedom. Those who exercise that freedom simply by openly being themselves SHOULD NOT have to face the same dangers we did, from others we also served to protect. The point of Pride Month is not to “celebrate the gays”. "I knew I liked girls and boys before I even knew what sex was" Kinda reminds me how before I knew what sex was, I had thoughts of having sex with both men and women. I pushed back those thoughts but now that I think back on them, I'm starting to realize I might be pan.
I knew I wasn't interested in sex before I even knew it was a thing. Also, my mom made sex and pleasing oneself a taboo in our household but is surprised when I tell her that I'm ace? Something funky here.
and then there's me...only realizing this past year that it's not "admiration". I just have a type when it comes to the ladies. Admiration won't make you seriously consider doing stupid shit because they ask.
I'm 55, still haven't worked out what my sexuality is. Just I know I like who I like and love who I love - and not all of them have been the same gender :)
Honestly my sexual orientation is just "If it clicks, it clicks" Why bother worrying about these kinda things when you can just let things go their course
I get this... I generally assume I'm not attracted to guys, but hypothetically there could be exceptions. I treat it less like a rule and more like a pattern.
"Some of us don't need to show off our muscles to show that we're strong." I don't know why, but it made me feel really good to hear that today. You said it so kindly that it uplifted my entire mood and put a smile on my face. Thank you :)
I have the opposite lol : I have seen some old (mostly gay / bi) friends from high school from time to time in the past months, I am coming in hair short, binder on, worked on low voice dispatched and casually gendering myself in a masculine way (I am french so it's like saying "you know I am a guy, right ?" three times in each sentence)... and they just don't take the hint XD
The bit about innocently mentioning crushes as a young child is the reason my daughter never had to come out to me. Since her first day of kindergarten she’s always told me all about her day and I always simply listened. It just came natural to her to tell me which boy and which girl she had a crush on right from the very first crush as a little girl. And I always loved listening to all my kids.
Thank you for caring about your children and encouraging them to be themselves. My mom always made sure to impress upon me that I didn't have any crushes on girls. I was just confusing close friendship feelings. Like, Mom, I stole one of your ugly costume jewelry rings and asked a girl to marry me when I was in Kindergarten. Well, turns out I'm not lesbian or bisexual, but in fact a biromantic asexual. One good thing is that she's gradually becoming more informed about non-hetero things, and we're able to have civil discussions.
"Some of us don't need to show off our muscles to know that we're strong" is actually so incredibly empowering and I really needed to hear this today. Thank you so much OT!
I've always had adults telling me I'm too young to label myself as gay, but at a young age they labeled themselves a straight. How is that fair, the point is it's not. You should be allowed to label yourself as whatever you are. gay, bisexual, trans, non-binary or a freaking unicorn and people can't say "You shouldn't label yourself, you are too young."
The people are right. As a kid your brain isnt fully developed meaning that you dont know whats good and whats bad. You dont know anything about the world around you and the HATE you can get. So no its an horrible idea to sexualize yourself in any way possible if you are the age under 18. My parents always said “When you get 18 do whatever you want, right now you need to ask us about your decisions” and they were damn right.
@@Slider450 It's not "sexualizing yourself," it's realizing that you don't fit into the binary that older generations try to force you into. There is nothing inherently sexual about who you feel attracted to. Saying that you're gay isn't saying "I wanna bang a dude," it's "I don't feel attraction towards women." Kids aren't morons, either. Their brains aren't fully developed till around mid-20s, sure, but they still know themselves better than anyone else, even their parents. If they feel attraction towards one or both genders, they should be allowed to explore that and see if it's real, just like going on a few dates with someone to figure out if you're compatible. If it is a phase, oh well. No harm done. If it isn't, then your kid now is able to look to you for support as they navigate this new identity.
@@infinityblayde1973 At the end of your statement you talked about “new identity” that can harm childrens minds. All that new identity and changing your “choice” as you want to cover the sexualissation, can bring hate towards children. Other people can hate the child and it can loose some of its friends perhaps. It doesnt matter if its normal or not (i think its not but its an obvious sexualisation but thats their choice i assume) it is still gonna bring hate and yes children arent mor*ns but they still can be lost in choices considering todays internet. Some say its okay, some not, some say its absolutely wrong and that can affect them. Sh*t even elder people have same problems! They are no exception older people still have same problems
@@Slider450 There's going to be hate regardless of whether or not they accept that part of their identity. They'll always be different. They just won't know why. Teaching your kids about this and making sure they know to respect people regardless of differences is the only way to get rid of that hate. Again, it's not sexualization. I don't know why that's so hard to understand. When schools teach Sex Ed, are they encouraging kids to have sex? Of course not.
@@infinityblayde1973 As long as they dont feel like themselfs, yea there will be hate and as simple as that. Also it is sexsuallisation. What do you thing why is homoSEXSUALITY called that way? Is it hard to understand?

I ended up having a dream a week after Betty white’s passing, it was the past in a room similar to a bedroom but what felt like a fancy attic/studio apartment. There I saw a young Betty white staring out the window, she was about in her 20s, I just knew it was her without anything being said. I went up to her and told her that she’d pass just a month before turning 100 the day before New Years at the age of 99 and if she maybe changed some things then she’d be able to make it to 100. She smiled, believing me or at least willing to go along with what I told her and she replied with “then I’ll get to live a long happy and fulfilling life” when I woke up there were tears in my eyes as I felt it speak to me on an emotional level
That form gave me flashbacks to a job application. It asked for your gender and had a drop-down box. The options were 1,2,3,4 or 5. The best part was that it was for a pretty well known bank and likely had a really high turnout of applications. I would love to have seen the person in HR collecting that data going "WTF do I do with this?!?"
8:04 okay but like two months ago one of my friends sat the whole friend group down and went "I have something to tell y'all. I'm straight, not bi" and we were all like :0 "omg thank you for telling us we still love you!"

15:59 the fact that it’s exactly what my parents said when I came out to them as bi just hurts me a lot, even though it’s been a year since then it still hurts. I’m 12 now. If I told them I liked a boy they would be like “aww that’s nice but don’t forget childhood is for making friends” and stuff like that but when I told them I liked a girl they said the exact same thing. I felt so rejected and unaccepted when they told me I was too young to know who I was attracted to, but with my brother, when he liked someone they’d be teasing him and would be so happy for him every time. My brother is nothing like my parents though and I love him a lot. He supported me completely when I came out to him and I felt loved. 17:24 on the topic of Betty White I have to mention another actress of that time who was a a bit of an ally in a way too,Judy Garland. You may have heard the famous story about the,”Friends of Dorothy”,before but if you haven’t basically from the 40’s onwards that was a term used by gay men in the navy to subtly drop into conversation that they were gay without being prosecuted as it was against regulations to allow gay people into the navy at the time. While Judy Garland herself as far as I know was not gay, from very early in her career she did enjoy visiting gay bars with her friends Roger Edens,Charles Walter’s and George Cukor, which her overseers at MGM hated and kept quiet for years. The Advocate once called Judy Garland,”The Elvis of Homosexuals”,and once when Judy Garland was asked about how she felt that a large portion of her audience were gay she said,”I couldn’t care less.I sing to people”. Let us also not forget the small fact that she also kissed multiple women during her later TV interviews WITHOUT GETTING CENSORED,and without a care in the world. EDIT:HER DAD WAS ALSO GAY OR BI,THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE

@@urmomnetwork 6:06
Saying that you're gay isn't saying "I wanna bang a dude," it's "I don't feel attraction towards women."
Kids aren't morons, either.
