You guys make a unique contribution to the fitness space in that you try to meet people where they are at. The main reason I listen to you guys is you actually take people's imperfections into account. Any run of the mill fitness trainer can tell you what is best when you are a perfect blank slate. Most of us have postural problems, weak mind muscle connection etc. I feel you guys are speaking specifically to me. This gives me the confidence to think I can actually pursue fitness long term, as a lifelong pursuit, not just to get in shape for the summer!
I do flat barbell bench on my chest day with dips and Flys, then on my shoulder day I do incline bb as an accessory after heavy dbell mil press and some side and rear delt isolation. Then on my arm day my main tricep movement is close grip flat bb bench and this combo has been getting all those lifts way stronger, especially my flat bench.
What a fantastic first episode of this new masterclass series! Thrilled to be a student in the Mind Pump academy! :) The breakdown of the chest anatomy and actions was extremely helpful, and as someone who has struggled a lot with activating the chest in the past, I am so glad to have these nuggets of help and wisdom as I train. Also, Adam's video on Mind Pump TV on how to do the flat dumbbell chest press was really the key for me to be able to start activating and feeling my chest in a flat bench. So incredibly helpful. Keep the great content coming!
@13:38 I've been dealing with this for many years that it kinda got me to stop doing dedicated chest workouts all together because it's frustrating. Everytime I tried to do chest I can definitely see and feel my left pec and front delt getting fuller and stronger while my right pec looks to only develop on the outer portion while the center almost looks to cave in and front delt looks flat... I really appreciate this episode!! Thanks guys
I would love the chest mod! I've been lifting for a few years and had a slight emphasis on chest, but haven't gotten it to grow as much as i'd like. This would be awesome!!
I think the pinching the shoulders back so that the scapula is activated was one of the biggest game changers especially when benching. The same for even when doing chest exercises on machines as well. The key I found to be engaging the scapula!
Omg, I thought I was going to be introduced to building a great chest....what I actually got was extensive information about how the body building works, and expert considerations when creating programming. This podcast fit sooooo much content that will help my chest development, but tons more that I can apply across all of my programming.
The visual explanation help me a lot understand the mind body connection. All trainers should teach theory and basic biomechanics before getting to the training. Props to you guys.
Looked high and low for a foot locker style trunk to store my daughter's dress up clothes. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxRkkpE1_3gMEZ2mPhAt6b2moNCUXyH8tG I had one growing up that I stored my Barbies in and wanted something sturdy like that for her costumes. This arrived really, really quickly and is exactly what I've been looking for. Perfect size, color (pink) and has stood up for nearly a year so far against my kids using it as a chair, stage, and barricade (😬) to keep each other out of their rooms. I'm probably going to order another one for my daughter's Barbies.
Mind Pump Masterclass?! Yes please! I've been listening to you guys about 6 months now, and I can't get enough. Not only have you helped me communicate fitness more effectively, but now you are sharing direct knowledge!? Keep it coming fellas! The community is loving it!
I started lifting 6 months ago. I looked me over and started targeting the chest and Triceps as my most under developed muscles groups. So I have been using Dumbbells for both and it is coming along nicely. I can’t wait to see where I am at in two years.
These guys as well as Greg and MPMD are the only few channels I trust and I have struggled with developing my chest forever, looking forward to the program.
It's amazing to me, and I did this when I was younger as well, and I only learned when I went to massage school, but how almost everyone who goes to the gym learns the movement of a workout but zero idea how the muscle works and its function. And when you do learn it, it helps not only with the workout, but the mind body connection
What's crazy is alot of times I do get caught up and confused on the best way to attack my workouts based off of how I feel. I think alot of times atleast for me even though I have been lifting my whole life videos like this show Me how much I don't know about the body and how it works. And this is something I've tried to run away from learning my whole life and now that I have have been doing a better job on being consistent working out and eating better to look and feel better video's like this make me want to actually try to get good at this. Taking care of your body and working it out the best way possible to get the best amount of value out of your workouts is a art that many have mastered and when I see the 3 of you do this day in and day out and the excitement yall get from something that is mind blowing to general pop truly excites me and I want to feel that same feeling. Not to sure what I'm trying to say here accept I've been following yall for a long time and I'm truly grateful for yall to keep grinding and operating in your passion. #Grind don't stop
Great episode. I have been working out for years and the bench press is the one exercise I never was completely comfortable performing until this year when I actually went lighter on the weights
Dude, a strong back is so important, if I try to keep my shoulders locked back and down, I can not lift nearly as heavy because it takes me extremely overdeveloped front delts out of it and my shoulders are tired much before my chest is and I can't hold the form. And I just noticed this 2 days ago and now here I am having that experience explained. Love this channel
Every time they said “stuck in the weeds” I did a set of chest flys. By the end of the talk I was showing hide gains in my chest. But seriously these guys have helped me a ton.
I’ve recently went from the heaviest I’ve ever been 235 lbs all the way back down to 172 lbs and am working back up to 180-190ish 🤞🏼 I’ve never done a program of yours, but I have really paid attention to the information you all have shared. To me this is invaluable especially the episode about body building and power lifting learning from each other! It’s my favorite so far. The animations for the muscle connection in this episode were great for mind muscle. Where can I find more animations like that for other muscle groups?
@@edricjordan7093 complete change in diet and exercise, and lifestyle. I quit drinking almost any alcohol I also focus on mental health and make sure to get up early. I read and research l. First off, I want to say THANK YOU! I am so excited for each episode and I feel like I have learned more about health and fitness with you guys than from anywhere else. I was one of those people who did cardio and cut calories. My fiancé has even told me he has noticed the most positive change since I have started lifting more, and I LOVE it! I still eat healthy but I don’t worry about cutting and limiting carbs. I just subscribed him to listen to you and he listened to his first episode yesterday. He has been wanted to develop more of his chest muscles and this is the perfect episode! I appreciate all of your information and once again, THANK YOU!
SO i have just started gym about 6 months ago and i have been improving alot newbie gains but the one area i am really really strugling is chest and tbh this video is a total master class impressvie gold nuggets thanks all of you soo much.
I'm always learning something new and beneficial from the MP crew! One thing that I'd like to hear a lot more in the fitness space when people mention workout volume is the percentage range of 1-rep max (1RM) for a particular fitness focus (strength, hypertrophy, endurance, etc.) so that the recommendations can be applied more universally and for people to think about how strong they are at any particular lift from the get-go. This would also need guidance on how to safely assess one's 1RM. You all have my sincere gratitude for highlighting that "less" is more often than not "more" when it comes to fitness and discussing current events in the multi-perspective format that you all do. Stay blessed!
I stared weight training back in July. I came across your channel about a month ago and I’ve learned more from the channel than anything I have watched. Thanks for explaining things the way to do
I'm just working through Anabolic, but i have saved this episode in a new folder called 'Masterclass'. This was great and I'm looking forward to more Masterclass episodes.
The content, knowledge and delivery make listeners like me comfortable and confident in what we are looking for. Like you say in many of your videos, there’s so much BS out there it’s hard to sift through. At this point, short of my doctor or a legitimate physical therapist, y’all are the only resource I go to. Respectfully, everyone else makes me suspicious. Thanks for all y’all do.
Very good idea 🙂 maybe a masterclas serie about cardio? How do you do cardio right? I mean how much, zones, everything possible, for people who want longevity and health, but don't want to disturb muscle gain and don't want to overdo it. From your episode with Dr Alo I learnd you can overdo cardio, which I really didn't know before. I was very extrem with cycling, especially uphill. I thought I was the best I can do for my heart. This episode made me stop to be so extrem. So I want to know more. Thanks for this great and helpful information, guys 😊
Chest Flys and Push ups with incline bench is what helped feel the muscle in my chest after 3 months of doing it, At first i couldnt squeeze my chest muscles at all. But now i can squeeze. an i can see the muscle move. I dont know how to isolate indiviual pecs yet But im glad i can finally feel it, When i squeeze it tight and start with higher weight my chest muscles shake. kinda of like when i start doing certain ab exercises.
I love these tips for building the chest . It’s helps me a lot since my chest skeletal structure is deformed . I need all the help I can get with my pec insertions being a bit off .
This has got to be the most informative episode yet. Maybe it’s the timing, as I am trying to build my chest right now. Great episode, and I will be applying a lot of this information on my next push day.
Hey mind pump team, thank you for this wonderful content because chest has always been my weak part and now I can't wait to put this knowledge into practice and see how much progress i make in my chest development. Thanks again 👍
You guys have great content, very knowledgeable, I haven't been watching long and not sure how long you have been doing your podcast but it is super motivating I listen and find myself going into my garage gym, I need help with man boob issue, not suoer bad but diffinatly needs sculpting. Would love to win one of your chest programs. Thanks.

Perfect timing, as usual. I've recently had to back off heavy bench because of the way it affects my left shoulder. I'd be curious to know exactly what I've been doing wrong out of what you mentioned and the best way that I could fix this going forward.
Winner! Please email ann@mindpumpmedia.com with this episode number, a screenshot of your youtube profile, and the email you would like the programs to go to!
I had similar issues when i was younger... rolling shoulders forward, see saw action near the top, poor execution. No one ever taught me proper form. Football coaches just want to see u push weight and dont fix mistakes. Now i have consistent bicep tendonitis and my chest is the most difficult to develop. I focus as much as i can on the form of my movement more than worrying about the weight. Less pain in shoulders but im going to work more on my stabilizers throughout my back and rotator cup
At 16:00ish Adam literally just explained why one of my shoulders click and my other does not 😮…I’ve asked so many “professionals” and they’ve all said “you just need to work out more”…irritating! 🤯🤯🤯
Love your show. I’m 51 and you guys are getting me more pumped then ever. Except I would like my chest bigger. Help me guys. Is that Adam’s favourite shirt. 💪🏼
Regarding rep ranges. Would it work to use the amount of reps to progress the lift instead of using more weight. Say start with 5 rep sets and work up to the point where you can lift 8 to 10 reps before you think about adding plates. Then go back down to 5 reps and add weight to accomodate.
These are fantastic, im relearning a lot, you know. Things im doing wrong that i should know better. It really helps to hear what other serious cats are going through to remind me its not just me, and also, here's how we get through it.
What helped me the most to connect to the chest and other areas I had difficultly feeling was using lighter weight. Put the ego on the back burner and learn to connect with the muscles you are targeting, then build yourself back to lifting heavier.
How long would you guys say it takes to see sizable chest gains? I've been in the gym consistently for last 4 years and my chest development is subpar. Since I've started listening to you I've adjusted my programing (last 8 months) and seen good gains in all areas other than chest. My mind muscle connection is good, i got the technique down, but gains are mediocre at best, especially compared to lats and delts. My current routine is 3x a week full body, with 20 chest sets per week. Love the show, leard an aweful lot from you guys, far more than 3 years of working with a PT. Keep up the gr8 work!
It is hard to say without knowing a lot more. If you would be interested in asking the question on the show, send an email to live@mindpumpmedia.com to hear more and maybe get on the show!
I would be very interested in a forearm masterclass episode. I feel like my wrist and forearms are very weak and it contributes to a lack of potential progress in alot of my lifts along with forearm and wrist pain. I'm not sure if you've guys had this type of lagging forearm muscles.
I struggled with chest until I started building that mind and muscle connection you have to feel the stretch going down and the pump going up sometimes all it is is the way your elbows and hand position is I used to lower it straight down and up but found that lowering it at a certain angle would give the best pump. Another thing was always having some sort of fly movement in your workout wherever it be cable machine or dumbbells doesn’t matter. I would do a minimum of 4 exercises and at the end of the month I would do 5 sometimes 6 exercises then drop back down to 3 or 4 the following week. And switching up sets between pyramid and standards you have to surprise your body every week with something new but challenging.
Whats your thoughts on doing powerlifting and bodybuilding competition through out the year and how would u program this? And how can you get stronger without getting bigger?
hey Guys quick question….So I’m a cancer survivor and I had a bilateral mastectomy done so I have reconstruction with implants…I am always concern to do strength training for upper body cause a bit concern if it will affect my implants since ther is no muscle there
Warm up of those support muscles is so important. Tore a bicep tendon years ago and bench is still hard. Can’t use a lot of weight. Work around that by pre exhausting with Pec deck.
I'm 63 and I'm looking for chest exercises to strenghten my chest. I've noticed since I turned 60 my chest has started to sag, can you help me with some exercises. Patricia Sydney Australia 🙂
I’m ready for this master class and can’t wait for the back. The back is very complicated because there are a lot of muscles hidden inside and fat tends to find its way in there a lot easier then chest, bi’s, tri’s and legs.
@@MindPumpShow Thanks for sharing the knowledge. I’m going to try and work on my back more to get better development and performance out of my chest. Thanks again! Can’t wait for back.
Listening to this made me realize I’ve been doing these moves on auto pilot lately. Time to slow down and pay attention to what I’m doing. Thanks for the reminder!
I have a question. Once you surpass the 25 rep range, what adaptations take place ? I'm a free diver and finding a way to increase my cardio through working out is definitely welcome, but I am curious as to what changes in muscle occur at 25+ ?
The issue I'm having with my chest is I have plates and screws in my left humorous bone from an accident years ago. So any pushing movement with weight causes a good deal of pain in my left elbow and up to my left shoulder. I've been pushing through this my doctor told me it's arthritis from the old injury. Free weights are very hard for me but recently I've been trying to push through it. Dips are almost impossible but I have been able to work up to sets of 8 unassisted. Took months of assisted dips to get there though. Any advice to help me I would greatly appreciate it.
You guys make a unique contribution to the fitness space in that you try to meet people where they are at.

Here's a fun game for everybody. Every time sal says stuck in the weeds. You have to take a scoop of pre-workout

Or maybe sip of water? A little more health focused 😂

Thanks for the tip! I'll start doing that band exercise before bench and focus on that form. Hopefully it will correct the issue!
Love your videos and the insight!
So happy to hear that!
41:00 Nice hand gesture. Definitely won't be taken out of context or anything.

Adams favorite shirt is is his Steph Curry jersey.
Greas video guys thanks🎉
No problem!
Thanks for this 👍🏼
No problem 👍
Regarding rep ranges. Would it work to use the amount of reps to progress the lift instead of using more weight. Say start with 5 rep sets and work up to the point where you can lift 8 to 10 reps before you think about adding plates. Then go back down to 5 reps and add weight to accomodate.
What things do you do to prime shoulders and back for chest?
Love the new series touch on all body parts please !
More coming!
These are fantastic, im relearning a lot, you know. Things im doing wrong that i should know better. It really helps to hear what other serious cats are going through to remind me its not just me, and also, here's how we get through it.
💯
What helped me the most to connect to the chest and other areas I had difficultly feeling was using lighter weight.
Put the ego on the back burner and learn to connect with the muscles you are targeting, then build yourself back to lifting heavier.
Great mindset!
Highly valuable information, as always cheers ! Thanks.48
Cheers!
@@MindPumpShow will do 🙂 thx for the replay
I would be very interested in a forearm masterclass episode. I feel like my wrist and forearms are very weak and it contributes to a lack of potential progress in alot of my lifts along with forearm and wrist pain. I'm not sure if you've guys had this type of lagging forearm muscles.
Pull ups with a thick handle
28:00 I’m 23 and this exact thing happen to me. Currently on my journey to strengthening those little guys
💪🏻
Whats your thoughts on doing powerlifting and bodybuilding competition through out the year and how would u program this? And how can you get stronger without getting bigger?
Check this episode! It may be able to give you some clarity.

You mentioned that weak stabilizers are responsible for pain on the back of the shoulder. How do you go about strengthening these?
hey Guys quick question….So I’m a cancer survivor and I had a bilateral mastectomy done so I have reconstruction with implants…I am always concern to do strength training for upper body cause a bit concern if it will affect my implants since ther is no muscle there
Who you work to fix , fat deposits in the out side lower chest ?
Warm up of those support muscles is so important. Tore a bicep tendon years ago and bench is still hard. Can’t use a lot of weight. Work around that by pre exhausting with Pec deck.
👍
I appreciate when you guys have real talk about bodybuilding. Theres too much info out there about this that it gets confusing.
100% , we are happy to help!
Besides getting stuck in the weeds a few times this was a sensational podcast 👌
Mind Pump Yeah Dude!!
YEAH Dude!
Thanks so much for listening!
@@MindPumpShow Thanks for sharing the knowledge. I’m going to try and work on my back more to get better development and performance out of my chest. Thanks again! Can’t wait for back.
AweSome EpiSOde....
Thank you!
So you say incline press is probably the better angel. Which angle do you think bench should be set to?
Listening to this made me realize I’ve been doing these moves on auto pilot lately. Time to slow down and pay attention to what I’m doing. Thanks for the reminder!
Good stuff!
I have a question. Once you surpass the 25 rep range, what adaptations take place ? I'm a free diver and finding a way to increase my cardio through working out is definitely welcome, but I am curious as to what changes in muscle occur at 25+ ?
My rib cage is very large . Like huge compared to normal is that good for bodybuilding or a disadvantage ?
I'd really love to work more on my chest while following Anabolic. Let's see if i can win :D
So how do you prime your upper back
