Pope Shenouda III (1923-2012) was the 117th Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of All Africa on the Holy See of Saint Mark, succeeding Kyrillos VI, who had died in 1971. He was born Nazeer Gayed on August 3rd 1923 in Asyut, Egypt.
