  • An impromptu afternoon euro nymphing session at Rush Creek, off the June Lake Loop, with the mono rig. Decided to take a quick detour off the 395 after fly fishing the East Walker River that morning. Funny enough, exploring & hiking Rush Creek for the first time, in a long time, became the highlight of the day. Fast-moving water, deep runs, and lots of resident brownies. Looking forward to going back this fall and stalking some of the larger Grant residents. Check out my fly selection for this video bbelow. You are very skilled at playing and landing the fish especially in fast water.

    Is that a 10ft 5wt Streamdance? Very good nymphing.

    No way you would have been a able to chase that rainbow down stream like that on the East Walker ;)

      Euro nymphing could easily be done on a spinning rod. A fly rod adds no advantage with this technique. I've been fly fishing for over 30 years.

    Nice video! As for rush creek were you using nymphs or dries? What was your rig? I think I saw just a single nymph tied on. Also just subbed!

      All subsurface, single fly -> Tungsten Thread Frenchie. Rush Creek had a tough season last year so I'd recommend skipping it this year. Rig was a 'mono rig' set up, George Daniels has a good set up vid on youtube. Tight lines!

    New to fly fishing, can some one explain to me what euro nymphing is ?

    • @mountainhungerflyfishing3740
      @mountainhungerflyfishing3740  4 роки тому +1

      Nymphing refers to subsurface fly fishing. Euro nymphing is a technique that uses a 'tight line' approach with weighted nymphs (no slack in the line/system). Another popular nymphing technique is indicator nymphing, which is a 'suspension' approach (this involves flies, weights, and an indicator).

    What’s your rod and reel combo?

      G.Loomis Streamdance 10ft 5 weight and then an Allen Trout II reel. Not a typical euro nymph rod - but this rod allows me to turn over heavier flies and cast easier in the Sierra winds.
