East Walker River & Hot Creek Fly Fishing Ep. 2 | Euro Nymphing the Eastern Sierra's
EPISODE 2! Euro Nymphing with the mono rig at East Walker River and Hot Creek in the Eastern Sierra's, California. East Walker River flows were around 170cfs. Got 3 days of early morning fishing in from around 6AM to 10AM. Fishing was solid but trout seemed on the pickier side (I would recommend cycling through flies until you find what's working). Hot Creek had it's usual summertime crowds but if you knew where to look fishing was great. Focus on slots with short drifts. Natural patterns seemed to be the key, much more productive than attractors. Check out my fly selection for this video below. Please like and subscribe for more fly fishing and Eastern Sierra content!
East Walker River
Dropper: Pat's Rubber Legs, Micro Bugger
Point: Tungsten Pheasant Tail, Mayfly Slim Jim

Fly Fishing Rush Creek | Euro Nymphing the Eastern Sierra's | June Lake Loop Fishing

An impromptu afternoon euro nymphing session at Rush Creek, off the June Lake Loop, with the mono rig. Decided to take a quick detour off the 395 after fly fishing the East Walker River that morning. Funny enough, exploring & hiking Rush Creek for the first time, in a long time, became the highlight of the day. Fast-moving water, deep runs, and lots of resident brownies. The shared fly fishing experience that keeps us all paying homage to the Miracle Mile at East Walker River. Flows were around 160~ CFS and I was euro nymphing exclusively with a mono rig set up. After a slow start to the day, only catching 20 whitefish, I had the feeling to make a change from small nymphs to dead drifting big bugs. The rainbow that ensued left me speechless! Euro Nymphing with the mono rig at East Walker River and Hot Creek in the Eastern Sierra's, California. East Walker River flows were at 160cfs with intense winds which made for some difficult fly fishing and line management (as you can see in the video!). The wind died down the following day at Hot Creek and despite heavy pressure, euro nymphing was great with trout keying in on caddis and a ni...

Beautiful day euro nymphing at Hot Creek in the Eastern Sierras. All fly fishing highlights are from the first half of the day ranging from about 10AM to Noon. Overall 'The Creek' was fishing great with 20 fish for the day and minimal weeds affecting drifts. Bonus clip at the end of a healthy brown from East Walker River (EWR). See my fly selection for this video below. Look for more EWR videos...

    Have to keep that rod tip upstream or they will pop off a lot more. You should also try fluorocarbon vs mono as it does not float. I had a good day on my euro rod as well the other week: ua-cam.com/video/yr4-kGlHj8c/v-deo.html

      For the most part I am usually always running the same length leader set up. George Daniel's Euro Rig set up (google for a nice/simple visual guide). Off that usually 6ft tippet if skinnier waters. 6+ for deeper/faster flows, but usually stick around 6.5ft of tippet. Most adjustments for skinnier waters I make are through rod positioning.

    • @mountainhungerflyfishing3740
      @mountainhungerflyfishing3740 4 роки тому

      Nymphing refers to subsurface fly fishing. Euro nymphing is a technique that uses a 'tight line' approach with weighted nymphs (no slack in the line/system). Another popular nymphing technique is indicator nymphing, which is a 'suspension' approach (this involves flies, weights, and an indicator).
