- A briolette is type of gem cut that originated in India about 800 years ago. India was among the first place in the world to mine and export diamonds and many of them were cut in this form. A briolette cut is an elongated stone that is cut all the way around. They are similar to the crystal drops in a chandelier. They are made to be seen from all angles and often dangle from earrings or a necklace. This type of stone cut fell out of favor over the years but has become more popular recently with less expensive stones such as amethyst and citrine. Join jewelry designer Jill Maurer as she discusses the history of briolette cut gemstones.

I’ve definitely heard this term. What beautiful pieces you’ve shown. I will look out for pieces cut this way.
Thanks Eva! I hope you find one you like!! xoxo
India has great jewelry designs...Thanks for sharing the cut's name! Love the royal blue color on you btw...Merry Christmas!
Thank you! Blue is definitely one of my best colors. Jewelry from India is gorgeous!! xoxo
I've seen this all over the place but never thought to think that it might have a name. I loved that bird broach you showed, almost like a stork carrying a baby much much cooler.
Almost everything in jewelry has a name, but only the truly obsessed know them all! The bird brooch is amazing!! xoxo
What an interesting cut! I have seen this style before but never knew what it was called. I wonder how many times I've said that this year... LOL! Thanks so much for this video, Jill! Can't wait for tomorrow's!
Ha! You have an ever expanding jewelry vocabulary! See you tomorrow!! xoxo

So pretty! If you would have asked me this question, I’d probably say some sort of food! 😂
Ha! That's interesting. Hmmm briolette cookies? That could work! xoxo
Never knew the name thank you
You are so welcome Leslie!! xoxo
I always loved these. Looks like you would have to have a very clear stone without inclusions for a briolette since you can see right through it.
They can be lovely. True. Some have more facets than others but you can usually see into it. xoxo
