When I propagate with leca, I treat it like a water propagation. I fill the container with water and the leca just holds the plant in place. Then I just let the water slowly dissipate and usually the plant roots just fine. This was a fun vid. Thanks for sharing.
My favorite medium is perlite + weak fertilizer inside a ziplock bag filled with CO2 and under grow light. The plants get all they need to grow fast: water, fertilizer, CO2, light and humidity.
Thank you for the video! I read that fluval brings water PH down which can help plant absorb nutrients faster. Maybe that contributed to faster rooting. I will give it a try!
As a texture person, you sounds like a texture person. 😂 I love the results I get from sphagnum moss prop boxes but I HATE the feeling of the moss and it makes me so itchy. Coco coir (coy-err) on the other hand is so light and fluffy, all I want to do is mix soil.
@@queencitytropicals You're welcome! I struggle with words too, so no worries. 😂 LECA sounds like fun, the sound and I can imagine the feeling is nice. I'm just too lazy to order it 👀
Interesting, I’ve never heard of the Fluval. Learn something new everyday. I’ve kinda stuck too water an Spag moss for props. Wondering the out come if you had water in this experiment. 😀💚
Thank you for this video! Great experiment and was fun to see the results. I just recently put some cuttings in Leca and will see how they do. I also have some coco coir to try, and now I’m curious about Fluval. I am a texture person too and do not like handling perlite. :-)
Good question! For me it seems to depend on the thickness of the stem so a monstera takes a while longer than a Hoya for instance. Also depends on the humidity that day! To be safe I usually do overnight or about 3-4 hours.

Thanks for watching! I'll have to try that out!

That sounds like a good one, I’m going to have to try that!

That makes sense! Whatever it does I am sold! 😂

First of all good to know how to actually pronounce coco coir! 😂 thank you! funny to see how people feel about differ textures!

Honestly for the plants benefit I don’t care for leca, I get much better results with different mediums. But that texture though! 😂
Finally found a comparison 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Comparison with straight water would have been interesting
I agree! I wish I had thought to add that in there!
I have had good success with vermiculite when propagating pothos and peperomia will need to try with my Hoya as well
thanks for watching! I haven't tried vermiculite, I'll have to add that to my list!

That would’ve been interesting to add water too! I haven’t been water propagating as much lately so it didn’t occur to me!
@@queencitytropicals I find Hoyas will root in about a week for me using water. Maybe next time. 😀
Spaghetti moss is awful when it’s time to remove it!

Thanks for watching! I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t like handling that stuff!
@@queencitytropicals How often did you water the cuttings?
Great info, thank you dear! 👍
Thanks for watching!

Yw! Thank you for your reply. Looking forward to more similar vids!! 👍🌺
I have a third way to pronounce coco coir:
“kwār”
Ok this spelling makes so much more sense to me! I was really stumbling over the oi sound in there 🪴
Neat experiment. Wonder if it works if you don't have a green thumb. :)
You’ll have to try it an let me know! You might just find you a green thumb! 😜
How long was prop
Do different plants need different amounts of time to callous?

I let my cuttings callous every time, I've tried up to 36hrs and no matter what they always rot. It's so frustrating
Hey. Introduce your pup. 😊
