I like the outside of the before house better. Meaning before they turned it into a monotone cookie cutter place.
I didn't like the shingles. Thought they looked moldy. Shingles often look moldy/mildewey.

Seems like she thinks it's a drain, when it's a gas ventilation pipe. He seems to kind of realize she doesn't get it.
Well it isn’t her job to know it. Her job is the design aspect and his job is the construction snd everything of that sort

The outside paint is such a dreary color
I didn't like the stair banisters...too ornate and twee. The dining room needed a massive window to let in more light to both the dining room, kitchen and back great room. Plus all the colour absorbed the light rather than reflected it. Overall felt very dungeon like to me.

If you have never seen them, they are enjoyable....at least to me.
If I recall correctly HGTV cut ties with them, because they are members of a homophobic church.
I remember that house. I like Joanna's design sense and space planning but I am sick sick sick of subway tile, and would a touch of color kill her? Maybe her clients don't want any but again, I'm sick of white and cream, white and cream., with a "pop" of gray. It's all subjective.
Design is like a pendulum. Craftsman was a response to Victorian. MCM led to "early American" then green/gold appliances/shag carpet... You get the picture. I think we were all tired of cluttered Welcome Friends geese decor and Jo's clean look was so refreshing. It's still a good starting place to add your color to warm it and make it your own. Never forget this clip is several years old now and Jo is going back to more color, less "country".
When you are doing other people's house with out telling them how exactly you are doing it those are the best color choices imagine picking other colors and they didn't like the color

How can these "professionals" not figure out ahead of time where the drain lines are? This is either a "surprise" created for dramatic effect, or simple incompetence. And these "surprises" happen in pretty much every house. Hmm.

I would have power washed the shingles and painted them white. The siding on the entire front of the house is kind of boring.
