Kate's death was very unfortunate... Niko, don't blame yourself.
Niko: There's no one else to blame, Roman. It's my fault, because I refused to do that deal for Pegorino.
It's my fault because I got close to her. I shouldn't get close to anyone.
Roman: You should, Niko. Stay close to Mallorie and me, we are your family.
Mallorie is pregnant. If it's a girl, we'll call it Kate.

Niko has a pretty sad story, but you gotta admit, the McReary family has a really depressing turn of events in GTA IV.

This ending was heartbreaking, but what really gets me is the call from Packie. You never really see him sad in any other point in the game.
What got me bad was the call with Roman, Nico blaming himself was really painful.
Kate is a shithole. I choosed both deal and revenge to see what happens. Kate dumps Niko.
If you get trashed with him enough eventually you’ll hear him cry on the drunk drive home

There's also a line in one of the hangouts with niko and packie where he talks about how his dad would molest him and gerry when they were kids. During the conversation it almost sounds like Packie is abou to break down
GTA IV is one of the darkest GTA games, there is no happy ending for Niko at the end. Only misery
***** true, yeah i feel bad for johnny the most because his best friend (billy) went insane and tried to put him in prison, his other best friend (jim) was killed by niko, his entire mc was fucled by a civil war, his druggie ex went into rehab and quit after only like a couple of days and he only has 3 people left in his life. And yeah luis got lucky that everyone that was against him got killed. I really liked the whole tony and luis keeping the clubs as "family business". I thought ,because the other games were so miserable and depressing, that in the end tony would have been killed by anceloti's goons and luis wouls show up at the monoglobe and find tony dead

Roman only died because Kate didn't want to come
It's very interesting how Roman gets more and more mature to the end of the game. At the beginning we see him as a wretched, cowardy creature. Even his girlfriend at first doesn't appreciate him as a man, it seems to me, as she lets Vlad close to her. Niko has to protect him in a lot of situations, from a lot of people. But as the plot goes further, Roman becomes a real man. He even goes on a few missions with Niko, even though it could be dangerous (for example, he joins Niko when he finally goes to face Darko Brevic). He finally makes up his mind to propose to Mallorie. Of course, he's still a bit of a coward at the end (afraid to be speeding down the highway) but it was his own wish, a strong desire, to join his cousin on his final mission. He's even not afraid to get into a chopper and get out midair to give his cousin a helping hand. Admit it, guys, that'd take a great deal of courage.
Roman shows how some people, like Strauss of RDR2, are brave in ways most people don't see.
to be fair, he was scared of not seeing his wife, but regardless he gies to help Niko, and that's respect

I like to think that was in reference to the events of this game, and the "went quiet" was him going straight.
For those of you who thought that Roman did not really help Niko during this mission, that is true. However, he was just there for Niko to comfort him over the murder of Kate. At least he is still a loyal family member.
Rowan did a lot for Niko in the begining of the game. He gave him a house, work, and a girlfriend that at least stand for a while.

jimmy pegorino is angry at niko bellic for refusing to do deal without knowing that if he does, he will just be killed by dimitri rascalov as he didn't know what kind of person dimitri rascalov is, he will be killed just like he did to everyone else, it's a good thing that niko bellic decides to kill him and he will not going to bother to betray anyone who gets close with him again, jimmy pegorino did prepare a lot of money in that deal and since niko bellic refuse to it he lost a lot of money and became the downfall start of pegorino family crime business, this is more likely the true ending why niko bellic will make a deal to someone who is his enemy and had already betrayed him before of course he knew that dimitri rascalov will do it again once he bit into that deal that he is offered along with jimmy pegorino
Just shows that Niko didnt really win anything at all. Roman won, Niko didnt.
Thats why the only thing he did after Roman tells him “we won”, is walking away. Quietly, and seemingly unhappy.
Kate is by far the best female character in the GTA series. A woman with many past traumas due to her family's history of violence. She and Niko make a perfect couple, both are people traumatized by their past and are unhappy. Niko hoped that Kate could finally be the love he was looking for, because that is what he wanted, to be loved, after his disappointment with Michelle, Niko hoped things would be different. Kate hoped that Niko could get out of the life of crime, so that she could finally have the hope to be happy and have a family with someone. She thought that Niko might finally be the person who could get her out of her life of misery. Well, at the end of the game, her life of misery comes to an end because of Niko's decisions and life of crime, but as we all know, in a tragic way. Tragic for Kate, for Niko, and for Packie. Rest in peace sweet and innocent Kate.

Rockstar originally let Francis live but he has another life, Gerry is in prison, Kate and that other dude died, packie moved to Los Santos, packies mother might be dead. It really is the end of the McCreary family

Now Kate may die, but it's okay because you can replace her with another Girlfriend, plus you won't get dumped.

my first time playing through GTA 5 i misunderstood and thought that Deathwish meant that Franklin would die, so i decided to kill Trevor and when i found out that it didnt have to happen i replayed through the entirety of the story mode (not thinking to use save files because im pretty dumb) just to save them all

The way Niko reacts to Roman being like 'we won, man!' and the fact jacob started to walk away without saying anything too, and then the camera panning up to the statue of happiness. It's a good lesson, all without too many words. There is no winning, not in a ruthless system that bleeds only money and disregards the fallen innocent. In America, You don't win. you survive, and try to live. And we don't benefit or win from killing other people on the bottom. We just lose one more obstacle in a big race that never ends, and so nobody wins.
Like everywhere else..
So this, is what the dream feels like, this is the victory we longed for.
Because the "American Dream" it's a hollow promise that nobody can truly achive

Almost every system does require money and is ruthless one way or the other, and there is certainly winning as well. But it is about what you consider as a "victory". For some people mansions and expensive cars are not entirely a victory and for some it is. Of course, if you are talking about joining the criminal life, you will almost never win. Bernie got rid of his life of crime and made something of himself. For him, it was a victory. Then Mr. Gravelli. Sure he was grasping for his breath but went down with wealth and influence. As agent ULP said, he died in peace. So if anything, the moral of this game is, there is winning but you got to know when to cut your losses and consider what is really important to you in life (aka win) rather than blaming everything on the "system".

Yeah, I much prefer this ending. Kate's death is tragic, but not depressing. There's a difference here. The ending with Roman dying hits a little too heavy for a conclusion I'd be comfortable to rest on - the bond he and Niko share is brotherly and spans their lifetimes. The romance kindling between Kate and Niko is sweet, but also much more recent. Alongside Roman, Kate seemed to push Niko towards a better life and lit a spark for him that maybe gives a touch of hope for the future. It's heartwrenching to see Niko lose someone he opened up to, but nowhere near as devastating as losing Roman.

Even the Heists were bullshit and unrealistic. The cops stopped chasing you way too soon on the last and first Heist and cops were alot more easy to avoid in V. If the biggest bank of America was being robbed, they'd send more than 3 fucking helicopters to take down the helicopters flying away with the gold.
Some of the voice acting was atrocious, mainly talking about Franklin. The main thing that happens in the dialogue throughout this game is retarded sarcasm about things normal people wouldn't do in real life.
Like when Trevor was trying to explain why they went after the O'Neil brothers, he's like "Oh, I got mad, went to their farm and blew it up" in a retarded sarcastic way, like it was meant to be funny when really it was just fucking stupid. Saints Row had a similar thing but at least they got it right and had a good story (Until the third one). Plus, half the shit in Saints Row wasn't meant to be realistic or taken seriously, it was just a fun game. GTA was suppose to be more about realism.
This is the ending for me, not because it's less painful, but it just seems like a more fitting and optimistic ending since Roman keeps him company and tells him he can still be close to people. The deal ending doesn't even feel like niko won and it felt like a cliffhanger.

I feel like Niko just wouldn't trust Dimitri again. While Deal does have a darker atmosphere which fits the game more, it kinda makes Niko incompetent, because Dimitri betrayed everyone who he'd crossed. He'd murdered his best friend, had targeted Roman with a kidnapping, and threatened Niko throughout the course of the game through phone calls, taunting him constantly about what would happen to him eventually. Niko imo wouldn't take that risk so he would choose Revenge. I even chose Revenge when I first played the game without knowing what it entailed and learned that Roman died in the other ending much later. He may not like himself for killing Dimitri but would view it as a necessity. Deal doesn't make sense.
The achievement for finishing GTA IV is also called 'You Won!', which fits the revenge ending more than deal does. Even Roman says 'we won' in the revenge ending

I feel as if gta 4 constantly tests the player about greed. Every time the game tries to entice you with money, you get a harder mission/u feel bad. However this mission was the final test of your greed and rewards you with the same amount of money you would have gotten if you picked to do the deal.
half of it actually, you only get 250k if you choose Revenge, and 500k if you choose deal. either way money is useless in GTA IV, you only use it for taxi, buy food, and buy weapons, there's no point getting a lot of money except if you want the half million archievment.

Very true, especially with the Holland Play Mission where you have to choose between Dwayne and Playboy. Do you listen to Playboy and kill Dwayne for a measly 25k which is very pointless because you will do a mission where you get 250k, and Playboy betrays you, or do you decide to take a big risk and kill Playboy who forces you to do dirty work for him.
Killing Playboy is challenging, because you have to kill his bodyguards and then chase him down the streets, you don't get any money but the rewards are much higher, you get his penthouse, a special outfit, and Dwayne, becomes a good friend and ally to you, and plus Dwayne's special ability is very useful for certain side missions, especially for the Little Jacob and Badman drug missions and the Vigilante Missions.
The best of this ending is not only you keep the best character but also your reward is huge money.

It's hard to know really, both make sense in a way, remember Darko and how Niko didn't feel satisfied with his revenge? That could've motivated him to forget his differences with Dimitri, and (Maybe stupidly) trust him to make the deal, apart from the fact that Roman insisted him to do it. But at the same time, he also could've just killed as a preventive move, because he could've suspected that Dimitri was gonna set him up like he previously did.

GTA 4 is still great because it has a story that doesn't glamorize crime, Niko giving the speech about seeing children with their hands chopped off had such a big impact on me and really made me question if I would ever go through with revenge. You can tell when you go back to playing 4 that Niko's story was more thought out while in GTA 5 I didn't really care about the characters at all lol.

Yeah, I agree, the V was nothing like other GTA games in that sense. Sure, this one was a little bit too dramatic and had it's own flaws, the ending felt incomplete and somewhat anticlimactic, but the 5th one barely even felt like a GTA game and the story was a big part of it. To get away with all those ridiculous heists, profit crazy, and then to top it all off with a perfect threeway circlejerk, where everybody gets to live and be fucking greatest friends ever after or whatever (because, let's be honest, most people probably chose that one, there weren't any real antagonists or personal reasons to kill either Michael or Trevor). Yeah, it wasn't all that pretty, Franklin didn't get his girl back, but at least he could have lost Lamar or put in a very tough spot, like any of them should have. Michael's problems were a joke and his therapist was made into a complete clown, and Trevor's issues and his more sensitive stuff, that you get a feel of in missions like with his mother after the end, weren't developed to it's potential. So the thing with GTA 5 for Rockstar was to compromise anything in order to create the story with most action, spectacle and of the biggest scale, however ridiculous it had to be, and in the meantime still trying really hard for people to like it and no to feel that way about company's choices. It wasn't bad writing exactly, the characters were nice and could have made for a very interesting, deep story; it's just that the focus on profit with this game, and especially the online part, was so painfully obvious, it makes it really ironic with the whole social commentary on America and mass culture thing inside the game.
This turned out to be quite long, sorry if it felt like a rant.

GTA 4 has some really great characters, Roman and Little Jacob are really outstanding! at first i was really annoyed with Roman, he was obnoxious, his gambling and everything but he was really supportive and a good person. And Jacob was great, he got Niko's back all the way. GTA 4 i think doesnt get the credit it deserves, it is such a great game.

In terms of story GTA 4 has got to be one of if not the best GTA. Topping GTA 5's story for sure. And the game itself is magnificent! Yeah it may not have jets, mini guns, underwater, a huge map but what it does have is a lovely city and Nico. That's all you need!

Jordan Caws IKR GTA IV may not have much replay value but the main story alone is all it would take to get somebody hooked. All GTA V has is Next Gen graphics and new vehicles/guns as well as more customization.
GTA V gave you the option of the “happy ending” where everything unrealistically worked out perfectly. GTA IV gave two grim endings where tragedy can’t be prevented entirely which makes the game even more realistic for a GTA story

This ending really makes you feel bad for Packie. Sure, he didn't really care that Francis died, but it was Kate's death that really broke him down, as it shows after you kill Jimmy. I can only guess the only reason you can find him and have him join you on heists in GTA V is because he moved to Los Santos to try and start his life over. Also, I'd wager that his Ma probably died by the time GTA V takes place.
Still though, Packie McReary, one of the best characters of GTA. Hot-headed, high as a kite, drunkard, and an asshole... but at the same time, there's just something about him that makes him such a great character.
And packs brother is in jail and Derrick is probably dead and even though it’s confirmed Derricks death is canon considering gta v packie mentions Derrick is dead Francis is locked up after the events of gta iv.

Yes compared to the ending in which roman dies, the ending in which kate dies is heaven as niko gets over kate’s death after killing jimmy, but he never got over roman’s death even after killing dimitri.

Realize how in the revenge ending the Statue of Liberty was looking at them in front of then making it the good ending, but compared to deal realize that the statue was behind and not looking at them in the end, making deal the bad ending and revenge the good ending.
Also I finished the game today, I also realised that showing Statue of Liberty, was kind of showing the liberation of Niko's journey through all this hatred, revenge, killing, and all things and favours he did to the people that used him and some that actually helped him. It was like feeling a sense of freedom from a burden that lasted long.
GTA V is sick game for big kids - if you compare it to GTA IV, which is more mature. I still remember my first game, revenge ending too... feel chills during this last scene. I was very satisfied and little sad at once... During GTA V ending... I've felt nothing. GTA IV has the best story.
It is because GTA V had a different writing style. To me, V's ending (option C) was effective for me because, character wise, I felt close to Michael. Felt he was the most interesting character.Trevor as a sociopath and Franklin a low life, both with character and good intentions (or, for Trevor, "good"), sure, but Michael felt the one for the story. As such, seeing him abandoning his old self-misery lead life, and choosing to go back on top was powerful (and, I'll be honest, I nearly cried in Reuniting the family. I was legitimately happy to see them together). Option A is also powerful this way. GTA IV was effective in making you connect with Niko, GTA V is effective only if you connect deeply with one character, and see the story from his perspective (I eventually saw Trevor and Franklin as side characters, not co-protagonist, making the story more effective for me).
I didn't like GTA IV's finale (endings) because no matter what option you choose you will still get a grim and dark ending. It always leaves me somehow empty and sad every time I finish the storyline. At least GTA V gives you the option of a "happy" ending.

I always felt that San Andreas had the best story imo.
MrSilnev San Andreas had the most entertaining one. As in, if you just watched it unfold. it would be the least boring. From a writing perspective (as in, literary strategies, poetic aspects, etc.), GTA IV has a better written storyline.

This ending isn't nearly as effective or emotional as it could have been.
"Deal" is very powerful, but in "Revenge" I think Mallorie should have died rather than Kate. This would have destroyed Niko's relationship with Roman (who encouraged him to do the deal.) Roman would disown him, as would Brucie and Little Jacob, out of loyalty to Roman. Kate would sever ties with him. Roman, Brucie, Little Jacob, and Kate would dissapear as contacts.
Niko would be left with almost nothing. Harsh, but it would show that in organised crime, everyone loses, which is something that Rockstar seemed to be saying in GTA IV. It would have been a hundred times more hard hitting. Mallorie isn't a hugely important character, but the consequences of her being killed would have been so much worse.

15:30 the music that plays at this time I fuckin love it. It's dark and quite sorrowful which kinda tells us Niko's state of mind at this point and it suites the theme of the show as well as pretty badass
