Royce Gracie's opponent, Bobby Ologun, is a Japanese comedian of Nigerian origin. This event is a comedy show that took place during the famous (but old) Japanese comedy show "Sanma's Karakuri-TV". It is not a martial arts match. However, Bobby's physical abilities were so outstanding for a comedian that it created a martial arts-like atmosphere.
They missed out on the opportunity to show Royce's plane fly to Japan from Brazil and have the announcer say the country name just like in Street Fighter.
@@andyusfca Bobby is definitely a comedian living in Japan, and has appeared on many Japanese comedy shows like Gaki No Tsukai; but I dont know what Bobby did before comedy.
What was really scary is that Royce wasn't even the best grappler in his family. He was chosen by his family to show that a small guy could defeat even larger and stronger opponents.
Royce was not a small guy (6ft. 1in). I belive Renzo was smaller and Rickson was shorter. From what I read, Rickson could not be controlled by Rorion and chose Royce instead to start the UFC.
@@ac2877 He was 'small' not in height, but overall, he was the skinniest and youngest at that time. And Renzo, although he is Gracie, he was too young at that time (1991) and he is from a lower level family tree, like Hyuuga Neji in Naruto hahah.
The Gracie family tried to push Royce as a great jj practitioner and next star of their style, but as it turned out he was nowhere near the talent that other family members were or became. But still he was a good fighter, against the right competition.
Royce worked as a nanny for his niece and was chosen precisely because he had never competed in a jiujtsu championship and had no athleticism, being a small man in which only technique could save him.
Royce has at least partial control of his arms the whole time they are on the ground, except for the brief time when Bobby has Royce’s armed pinned with his free arm, which basically means his arm was tied up as well
I'm surprised Bobby had decent knowledge on the ground. Take at look at the old Gracie Challenge video to see how much stand-up fighters are clueless when grappling. When mounted, their legs are flailing about and if they somehow are on top position they get reversed rather easily. Bobby at least put up a good fight on the ground.
He's a comedian living in Japan and has appeared on many comedy variety shows like Gaki No Tsukai. I don't think Olugun was a pro fighter at all. This match is a Japanese comedy show lead by Sanma so it looks like they just put Bobby vs Royce for entertainment.
Roys Grace nażucił Bobiemu styl walki.Jednak uważam, że Oldgun długo stawiał opór w parteże. Nie wypadł źle. Czarny pas w BJJ jednak jest ciężko pokonać.
I don't know, but it definitely wasn't competitive. The bout isn't chronicled on either fighters' professional record, so it was at best an exhibition.
It would've been interesting to see how he'd do if he'd committed to the sport. He fought only once a year on event shows, and often jumped into the deep end with fighters much more experienced than he.
Anyone with great striking, that wasnt intimidated by a name with ferocity would have just smashed Royce here. The sport had already passed him up. His stand up was sub par for a pro mma fighter.

BS...he is a world class kickboxer
He is??
Based on this “performance” I would agree with your comment.

I love listening to they Japanese play by play announcers, they sound so excited by the action they're narrating.
Thank you for News 📰 ❤🎉
Royce & his family are the LEGENDS that brought REAL martial arts the world
They have their skills but no there many martial arts who brought martial arts to the world not only them
No no bjj is the only real martial art forget traditional wrestling and actual jiu-jitsu only bjj is real if there's a throw its fake fighting
Absolutely , they are the best .
@Brett-yq7pj true , but the stand-up grappling from old jujitsu makes bjj ( mostly groundwork ) complete .

Which Gracie do you think is the best pure grappler?
@@mouseboxersclassicmma at that time I would say Rickson Gracie was. But a lot has changed in the whole Gracie family since then.

So why didn't they choose Royler gracie then? 😂

Eu fazia parte do time do Brasileiro na época, mano. Fomos muito bem tratados no Japão. ❤
I like the way he deals with bullies
Sin duda royce es todo un maestro.
A legend!
A lock, takedown grappling master versus a relentless physical bull strong opponent, a study period for the martial artists enthusiasts.
Legend.
It's amazing how much mma improved in the past 20 years...
It has NOT improved. NOW IT IS NOTHING MORE THAN A BLOOD SPORT !
Valeu Japão e roicy

Royce is a total badass
Except when kazushi sakuraba is around
🎉🎉🎉
Yes, but this was an exhibition fight, Japanese entertainment.
@Boy-nz4uu both are badasses! You can't take anything away from either of them.
They are 1-1 against each other and both fights are close. It took Sakuraba 1.5 hours to beat royce, and he did it with leg kicks, not grappling.
weird edits to crowd and cuts. 13:58 Royce zero damage, then heavy cut to right eye. curious what shot he got hit with.
At first I thought the guy was mocking the Japanese interviewer but the 2nd time found out he actually knows Japanese 😂😅
Bob,bom lutador
Strange that Bobby made no real attempt to strike in this fight, especially not on the ground. And he had plenty of opportunities to....
not easy to strike on the ground. you just don't have place to load up.
He waa trying hard to not lose balance...
Royce has at least partial control of his arms the whole time they are on the ground, except for the brief time when Bobby has Royce’s armed pinned with his free arm, which basically means his arm was tied up as well

Gracie fighting style works great when your opponent doesn't know ground fighting.
Umm.. What about ken Shamrock and dan savern?
Isn't that the point?
umm it works no matter what, thats why every single fighter in the ufc trains jiu jitsu now.
@@vikingbjj7But most fighters have MORE than just BJJ nowadays, it’s not just grappling
@@decidingpaper6324 Thats because everyone started learning jiu jitsu, how does that take away from how well it worked?

I thought that was adabeesi from Oz.
I can’t stand the camera going away from the fight to show the crowd. That was so annoying

I wish I could see Gracie vs Tank Abbott
Why is the camera quality worser than 1970s B movie?
Because it was copied on video tape.

This video can't be from 2004 it looks like the late 90s.
Not very different
Met a few of ghe gracies when I accompanied my mate to a jujitsu competition in Brazil... I was very very impressed.
Yes, bullies are just bullies but they have many weaknesses

Probably was or loosely scripted!
Just wondering why the guy never threw punches even he first was on top ??? Bit puzzling tbh
Great Master Royce Gracie.
Royce..number one in the world..!!!!!!!!
Why is Royce Gracie speaking English?
So Ologun would be able to understand his threat.
maybe there is no one to translate portuguese? 😚
He normally speaks english
For an actor Bobby did well on the ground and managed to injure Royce quickly and with few hits, so quite accurate

Bobby if you no ref, maybe you hans dont have one.
