- Zambia is calling on the African Union and the Southern African Development Community to intervene in its diplomatic dispute with Zimbabwe. This comes after President Emmerson Mnangagwa allegedly told Russian President Vladimir Putin that the U.S. has been supplying weapons to Zambia to consolidate power in the region and isolate Zimbabwe. International Relations Analyst Professor Gilbert Khadiagala.

For HH to send Mumba to ambush a fellow SADC member with statements that undermine the elections was literally lighting a match stick in a room full of petrol. Lucky Zimbabweans are peaceful people and managed the situation very well. HH got exposed for his clandestine moves and now he has opened an Africom liaison centre in Zambia. Actions speak louder than words and if I was the Zimbabwean President I would be concerned too. 70,000 Zimbabweans died in a liberation struggle kicking out Europeans out of Zimbabwe and then so many have suffered from sanctions because we refuse to be yes people and watch multi nationals own out gold while we work as security guards protecting them. Going to SADC is more noble, but of less attention but good to starting with. If an ordinary Zimbabwean citizen mentioned such a statement like from the President in ED, an Ambassador would have been considered. If ED mentioned these sentiments from Zimbabwe, SADC would have been the step for Zambia. If ED said this with another president outside SADC, AU would have been step. But ED went out and overseas, it even makes it proper for Zambia to head the UN route, but Zambia and the President HH have started it at a low pace and level creating more space for Zimbabwe and ED to come back to their senses to correct the correctables correctly as Zambia awaits.
See how long it took for Zambia to react to this fact even after the long silence from Zim. Zimbabwe should look back to history, to date and see what Zambia has been to her services. Zanu PF and ED should appreciate this 🇿🇲 and respect HH especially his kind hearted. If we are to be fair, the US has always wanted to have a military base in southern Africa against Zimbabwe. I remember there was at one time Mugabe on arrival from AU summit warned Botswana for being used by the West to threaten Zimbabwe. During Mwanawasa's rule, it was said the US attemped to have a military base in Zambia and Mwanawasa declined to allow that. Zambia is strategically located. A base in Zambia will have access of control not only to southern Africa but also part of east and central Africa. It is no secret that the US and UK have wanted a regime change in Zimbabwe since land reforms in that country. These countries and their allies are distabilizers wherever they go and so Zimbabwe feels threatened. However, that this plan is now being carried out under Hichilema remains to be seen. I wish the two presidents should have come together to discuss this problem and find a solution so that trust exists between the two sister countries. I remember Kaunda, the late former president of Zambia, would directly and diplomatically talk to his counterpart in such cases. If my memory serves me right, he avoided conflict with Congo the Zaire, and Malawi over border dispute. He also cooled down the potential conflict with Angola for political reasons. Rhodesia bombed Zimbabwean freedom fighters camps in Zambia violeting its air space and sovereignty but Kaunda managed to keep peace. The two nations, Zambia and Zimbabwe should not allow foreign powers to divide them. These powers do not care about the people in these countries. They only care about their interests even at the expense of the people.
This divide between Zambia and Zimbabwe can even undermine the unity within SADC itself. I also hope SADC will not be used by the West like ECOWAS was that resulted in three member countries withdrawing their membership. Let Zambia and Zimbabwe unite like they did during Zimbabwean freedom struggle from the same powers. Let Africa unite.
Mnangagwa has his own domestic issues and so is Hichilema, but both should put their national interests first. One of the interests is good neighborliness, unity, peace and harmony. We should avoid the Rwanda Congo situation, Ethiopia Somali situation and worse still the Russia Ukraine situation where the Western powers use proxy wars for their own selfish gain. I say Africa unite, and let it start with Zambia and Zimbabwe.
A potential US base in Southern Africa is not aimed at Zimbabwe, but South Africa. Zimbabwe is just a little nuisance for the West, but if South Africa went the way of ZimbAbwe is the biggest concern of the USA and the West.

The issue is not about whether what was said is true or not but rather about the differences in political ideologies and allegiances between the two leaders. While it is true that HH is closer to the USA and the West there might be suspicion between the leaders about what HH might be concorting against Zimbabwe. HH is one of the leaders who was assigned the responsibility of unseating revolutionary parties in Africa. So it is no wonder that you don't see him at President Ramaphosa's inauguration.
We also don't know what HH has said about Mnangagwa to the USA but we heard what Mnangagwa said to President Putin...what if HH said the same to the USA about Mnangagwa.!!
Lets not judge here but let cooler heads prevail and encourage the two leaders to find each other through dialogue...
