    This was so informative, personally I’ve always been scared of primary care for the same reason you said Nanelle. I don’t wanna be one of those nurses who lose my skills or “don’t know anything” but this was so enlightening. I love the opportunities for career progression.

    Opportunities in nursing is so diverse you’re not limited to being in one environment. You can literally just rotate which builds up on your experience. She’s share a great amount of knowledge for people who might be interested in going to Gp nurse glad she explained it in details.

    Guys I am a practice Nurse myself and I agree with all she said. I joined Gp after qualifying , straight to Band 6 pay , so many skills and knowledge to learn is unbelievable! not even talking about the opportunities and flexibility to climb up the ladder. I love my job as an independent practitioner and would bot change it at all

    Nanelle keep up the good work. Nzi gave good synopsis of GP nurses role. It's a fulfilling job if you like to work autonomously. I've been a GP Nurse for 17 years. I'm advocating GP's need Nurses, just keep applying.

    In SA,we call them primary health care practitioners, they operate independently in all government clinics,but you need to do a a 1 year specialised training known as primary health care nursing, they assess, and treat and dispense medication, and you can also open your own clinic if you apply for operating licence from South African Nursing Council

      Even where I come from, Lesotho, we call them nurse clinicians. They work independently in government clinics, they do 1 year speciality post basic general nursing and midwifery.

    So here in Nigeria, GP is equivalent to community health practitioner s... All she said here are the work of a community health practitioner. The work independently in all government health centers. Am glad to stumble on this❤️❤️❤️

    See how she speaks with passion; and basically our Ghanaian community nurses and public health nurses do at CHIPs compounds and health centres. Yet we underrate ourselves and go out there to do shits out of greedy and lack of appreciation and low self esteem.

    I'm currently doing my placement in a GP practice and I love love love it. When I graduated I will definitely be going into General Practice the opportunities are endless. I don't see myself working in the hospital.

    Primary Care is the best!!. We have the opportunity to care for our patients from the start of illness and can possibly prevent conditions that will lead to hospitalization.

    In Nigeria they are called public health Nurses. I work as a public health and run same clinics as Nzi only the work hours are not flexible.. The unit is aways short staffed

I intend going to study public health (BSC)at the National Open University of Nigeria, but I was told that Public health can't be practiced in a clinical setting, how true is this?     You know Nanelle, in my country nurses' who are placed in primary care do all those duties that an Advanced nurse do while they are general nurses. Been based in a clinic for 4 years now, i can diagnose, prescribe and dispense as a general bsc nurse. Manage chronic conditions. Immunisations, you name it. So i feel i can do well as a GP or advance nurse Practitioner

    General practitioner surgeries are what other countries call family doctor. There is a big demand for GP nurse. I work as healthcare professional in GP land. Some surgeries are even willing to train new nurses.

      @@babajideezekieloiuwafemi1533 because it’s a role I call it a dead man shoes Lool most people rarely leave those roles unless they’re moving out of area or retiring. I would suggest you try find out who recruits for the primary care networks (who like a a group of GP surgeries in an area) in your area.
