The good old days - OH&S couldn't possibly allow it with passengers in there now!

Never mind OHS, not even the engineers wouldn't allow it. It's definitely pushing the axle load limits for the upper decks of Town Hall and Wynyard. Haha!

I remember encountering this same scene in '92 in Sydney at Wynyard while visiting for Newcastle (NSW). A lone 48 carrying flatbeds and other trucks going through the city circle. An absolutely crazy sight that would not be permitted today during regular operational hours. It was also fantastic that the driver seemed to dump a few amps into it mid platform so as to produce a thick soot of fumes that cleared the platform directly. I was last in Sydney in 2018 so don't recall or know if they have changed the iconic G-major triad announcement tone and corresponding (male) voice. Thanks for the memories!

The voice is a female these days but the triad announcement sound is still the same. The voice actor was replaced in the late 90s, 2000s, and 2010s as new stations were added

Great videos, do the diesels get in the Underground much at all these days? or is it mainly just the 2 86's now?

Hmm, being an American, I don't remember Australia having underground train systems. But it's actually bizarre to see freight trains passing by underground passenger train stations, with billowing smoke. Whoa!

@@jamesfrench7299 i can only remember a diesel being underground in USA was a scene of a Bulldog loco in Superman (1) in NYC where Otis evades the police going to Luthor's lair, now wether that was a replication of real life practices i'm unsure.

We only have a small section of subways in Sydney, anyway. It is a loop underneath the cbd. It is a rip off of the London underground in a way. The system of tunnrls was greatly extended as bomb shelters in ww2, but never subsequently used for trains.

Hahaha! At least 4848 had a scrubber ... shame about the leading unit. Imagine standing on Wynyard or Museum platform, dressed to go somewhere important, and you get sprayed with ALCo soot! 😂
