Glimpse into Flatfoot Dance Contest Galax, VA 2022

- Опубліковано 22 сер 2022
- This is just a glimpse into the Flatfoot Dance Contest at the Galax Fiddlers Convention in Galax, VA in August of 2022. I just caught the middle or so of the contest. There are folks before and after this section that I recorded and shared here, but there is a general feel here of what the contest is like and some of how folks approach the traditional Flatfoot Dance styles in the region. Old and young alike are welcomed to come and take the stage.
That elderly woman in the pink shirt should just win the contest for being able to move that way at her age!
ikr
I agree she was my favorite and the cute little girl that only hopped up and down. 🤣❤️
@@texasgirl6000 #33 ... she was aDORable 🥰
tbh, if you watch as a child, it actually does look like hopping ... she was too cute
Se sure had the moves! I was so impressed!
You are loved so much!!!
Jesus is real and alive!
The KJV Bible is true! It's the inerrant word if God!!!
You are loved!!
Jesus loves you so much, that He died for you!!
He paid for all sin for all time with His death on the Cross! He rose again on the third day!!! To prove that He is God and that you have been declared innocent!
We all sin! The instant you believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord, you are Saved from the penalty of sin, which is death! Jesus already paid your fine, in full!!!
Call on Jesus! Believe and run to Him!!! Just as you are!!! His arms are wide open!!!
1 Corinthians 15:1-4
John 3:15-18
Ephesians 2:8-9
Romans 10:9-13!
Wonderful to see people of all ages dancing.Preserving the traditions and having fun!
My Aunt Sadie's people/kin (even my grandma called her aunt) did this in Eastern Tennessee. She would holler "Ya'll quit stompin on my porch. Ya gonna shake the rafters loose." I was 7years old, now 71. Still a fond memory!
I'm 63. Wouldn't it be nice to go back in time for a few days and see the old timers again? I remember people born after the civil war but still too old to have fought in the first world war. I used to hear insults like " Oh, your mammy don't wear no drawers" and my grandma would tell me some useless article was " not worth a tinker's darn."
I love flat foot dancing my mom used to do it but she's gone now God rests her soul I miss her terribly!!
Awww you just brought years to my eyes. I lost my Mom in April. Miss her so very much!! The dancing is cool ❤️
Lost my mama in 2020. She loved to dance. God Bless Mamas!
No one flat-footed like Buddy Ebsen , Jed Clampett for those of you who don't remember.
Never knew that.. Always loved to watch him dance though..
@@noralee6787 It's interesting that when he did dance on the show , it was obvious all eyes were on Buddy .
I remember Jed dancing like this. I thought it was cool.
@308v8 *he could cut a rug for suuure ...
Buddy Ebsen (Jed Clampett) was actually a very skilled dancer in real life. He and his sister came to Hollywood as a dancing duo, not to act but Buddy was discovered and they wanted him as an actor.
SHOUT OUT TO THE MUSICIANS!!! God bless you all.
Peace, Lynne 🍃💜✝️💜🍃
This was so sweet to watch, I actually cried! Hard to remember times when things were normal, regular people doing activities together! I LOVE it!
My thoughts exactly. I smiled ear to ear watching them enjoy the home town wholesome feeling
But this was recorded this year
@@sategllib2191 yes I'm so happy you see that! Initially I thought it was pre-recorded but after I made the comment I double checked and it's current! Praise God!
@@Mikaela777 Awesome that people still just live their lives freely. Until the next virus is pushed over the airwaves that is. Bless you
Blue shirt and tan shorts , that mans got it!!!!
I would have to agree
Handsome too
I love variations on a theme, so watching everyone interpret this style in their own way kept me smiling all the way through. Seems like this is a hobby that will keep you young!
🎶 🎵 I was judging this contest in my living room. 🎶 🎵 Haha.
Who WON?
I was ready with my ballot.
Haha.
This was fun to watch and see everyone having fun and doing their own thing!
God bless them all.
Peace and fancy foot work,
Lynne🍃💜✝️💜🍃
Lol number 7 won / never seen it done before 😂 he just hillbilly moonwalked the flat foot I loved it ! Or # 18 just for the pure joy of it
Love to see these traditions preserved, and all ages participating!
Best wishes from across the pond. 🇺🇸🇬🇧
Traditions in America are beautiful!
Old D-Ray White would be proud to see this still happening today!
But there is no comparison to what he and Jesco did/do and these folks!
I'm just down the road, my Mama used to take me there as a kid. Absolutely nothing in this world like a fiddle and a scrap of plywood. Nothing. 💜💜💜💜
I love all the dances and as long as they are having fun. I had an elderly native of the Yukon teach me to dance and this gave me years of doing many dance styles. Such joy!.
You can see the Irish heritage coming out in that dance.
My mom danced this. She was born in Ky. She loved this music. ❤️ RIP 🙏 😢💔
@Kathy Paley Thank you so much. 🙏🤗❤️
This is my first time ever experiencing something like this. Looks pretty fun and glad many people are still engaging in the culture.
After you get rid of all the garbage and all of the junk that's out there this is what it comes down to this is America this is real America this is where everyone belongs. and this is where my heart will always be !!!!!
God bless all y'all. !!!!
Great fun! Love this, thanks for sharing! God Bless.
Super memories for this Okie 72 year youngster! Grandpa, from Northern AR, played every string instrument, and clogged/danced just like these great dancers.
One thing that my Grandma did, that I've never heard/seen anyone else do, is take her knitting needle and tap the fiddle strings while Grandpa was playing. Made the most amazing/unique sounds. He wouldn't let her do it often, as it tore up the cat gut strings.
We have some pretty good flat footers in the NC Mountains, and so do y'all! Thanks for keeping the camera low so we can see the footwork.
Never heard of it,,but I lovvvee it..and the heritage of the dance.and oh yeah..the people too.
Nice to see local cultures beings celebrated.
I thought that was the best fun i have seen in a long time. Everyone was fantastic. And the band was to much, just having a great time as well. What a great time for the whole family. Enjoyed the kid's, watching them being just that kid's. Wanted to join in. God Bless America.!!!!!!
I love the fiddler’s convention! If you’ve never been, plan on attending next year. Galax is beautiful too.
Looks like a lot of fun!

When my grandpa was in his nineties we would have a bday party for him and he would always dance like this. I always called it "a jig".

I knew Susan was going to throw down as soon as she walked out 😂
Wish I were there. Life is much better when you live like this.
I remember the first time i danced for the Lord back in 85. I remember the Lord moving my feet and dancing something like these guys, a little faste though. I've been dancing for almost 38 years now, and i've learned and been taught a lot on how to dance from the Lord. dancing in the spirit is another world than just dancing. i dance a lot more freely now, bending, bowing whirling leaping artistic arm movements, I like the music and the dancing, but it's like they are wearing a straight jacket.
sounds like me!!!
This is wonderful. I've never heard of this. I've seen clogging, but this is different. So great to see people of all ages participating, and especially important keeping your heritage going.
Hi, Kimberly - Check out the origins of and differences between various forms of clogging such as "buck dancing" and "flat foot"
So much fun!!
It’s a great tradition. I didn’t know about it until I moved into Appalachia.

Brings back memories with my family that live in that area. Some were probably at the festival.
@Kathryn Way; I hear ya! I was born early '50's( before Galax became a city) Dad moved us out mid-'60's to keep working.I spent child-hood in Old Court-house in Old Town. Last visit was 2015, for cousin's funeral. Did nostalga tour. People said I was NICEST person they had had ever talked to in Galax. I said WTH happened to this place??
@@michaeldaltonsr8954 I haven't been there in too many years.. My dad's family is from Fries. Good memories with my family and cousins 💖
