Air Canada To Bring The Boeing 767-300ER Out Of Retirement

- Опубліковано 4 лют 2025
- Air Canada reportedly has plans to reintroduce the Boeing 767-300ER to its passenger fleet. The airline operated the jets for passenger services under its mainline and Rouge brands up until the pandemic. When travel demand dropped, the carrier decided to convert several into freighters. Now, amid a capacity crunch, it looks like Air Canada will reintroduce the type for passengers.

One of the best aircraft types for economy passengers due to 2-3-2 configuration.

I flew them on the flights from Ottawa (YOW) to Heathrow and Frankfurt. Since their retirement, Air Canada hasn't had non-stop flights from Ottawa to Europe. Hopefully we'll see those routes back soon.
Me too! 😊
It will comeback with A321XLR I guess
YOW->LHR will return in March 2025, using a 787-8.
@@tahnalos3677 yes, but with the xlr it will maybe open some new transatlantic routes from Ottawa
@@Jamy_25 No argument there. I would probably bet on YOW-LHR being downgauged to the A321XLR once it becomes available. The 787-8 is a stopgap measure to allow AC to get to the market first. I think BA was strongly looking into this service which is why AC acted first.
One of Boeing's best airliners. A good friend of mine was a 767 captain at Air Canada. Naturally he had high praise for it. Japan Airlines was the last airline to purchase this jet before it was discontinued and still operates them as a passenger service today.
Japan does everything except racism right and Canada does nothing right except non racism.
767 is the best aircraft out there from a passenger perspective. Good news.
My first flight as an adult was on C-GAUN (the Gimli Glider)after it returned to service in 1984 on a flight from Toronto YYZ to San Francisco SFO. I later flew 767s many times during the years when I was travelling extensively for business. I always enjoyed my flights on these aircraft as they were very comfortable planes, and was a little sorry to hear C-GAUN had been retired in 2008.
Cool! Look forward to seeing them flying again!! Wish they brought back some 757's as well!
Best passenger layout out there. Hate the 3X3X3 787
amen. 787 layout is lame
Sad that Boeing is ending one of the best, if not the best, commercial longhaul commercial planes. Such a mighty aircraft.
They are still building cargo variants so who knows if there is a market for passenger options
It's a shame VW isn't making the Mk 3, Mk 4, Mk 5, Mk 6, Mk 7 Golfs, alongside their newest Mk 8 Golf. All mighty cars, all should still be in production .
things age.i love the 767 too,but its old
@@Dischingo they recently announced that they are phasing out new-built cargo in 2025
@Katsumoto0456
My Mk 3 was junk. Never again VW!
Flew (as a passenger) them often in the early 2010's, both international and domestic flights.
In economy, they were a lot less cramped than the newer 787's which replaced them on the international routes. I was sad to see them go.
Also flew on the earlier 767-200's back in the days.
200s out of zrh with no tv but crew making up for it
Flew Austrian 767, Vienna-YUL couple of weeks ago. What a pleasure of the aircraft. One of my favourites
I liked them very much! Hanging on my wall I have a paper flight plan from a 767-300ER flight from Stockholm to Chicago. Back those days they would pin a copy of the flight plan to the forward bulkhead, and I guess the cabin crew noticed me geeking out over it and asked me if I wanted it after the flight was over.
I wonder if they will be used for domestic medium and short haul or for longer missions to Europe?
If they don't have winglets then they'd be less efficient for long haul. Which makes me think they'll use the 767 in place of the A330 or 787 domestically. In order to free up the other types to use on longer missions where the efficiency gains help the profit margins more dramatically.
Not the first time they did this. They brought back the L-1011s after their retierment.
The 2 767s you mentioned are 767-375, originally delivered to Canadian Airlines with individual air vents (at a time when Air Canada's own 767s didn't have them). Air Canada doesn't like the 767 necause it can't densify the cabin as they did with 787 and 777 by adding more more seat per row. Their business model is to make coach as painful as possible to motivate peop,e to pay for premium economy (which used to be what coach seating used to be like).
This isn’t their business model.. it’s all airlines business models. Basic airfares have remained the same in absolute terms even as the cost of everything else has doubled or tripled in the last 30 years. You think domestic fares are expensive now? You obviously didn’t live in the era before Westjet.
Airlines have had to make more money by charging for extra bags or using the hold to move freight, by charging for meals, charging for better seats, selling you credit cards, etc etc.
In relative terms all of the luxury is available to you at the same prices you paid before-adjusted for inflation.
It’s like when people long for the golden age of travel. It’s still here and better than ever. Spend $20k booking _The Residence_ on Etihad which is as attainable to an average middle class person as a basic first class ticket on Pan Am’s first jet.
@@calvinnickel9995 Before Westjet, there was Canadian Airlines with 32" seat pitch, wider seats, meals. And flights to Australia were cheaper than they are now despite Air Canada cramming 10 across narrow seats in the 777 designed for 9 across. And Wardair had even greater service including steak in coach and they went down because of an enourmous order of MD88s and rise in interest rates as they wanted to expand domestically too fast.
Do you really *want* to be flying 16 hours in coach on such miserable seating? You fly it what you *have* to. And that cuts a lot of passengers who fly because of a desire.
@@jfmezeiTo be fair, 99.99% of people fly because of need, not because of desire. Otherwise commercial aviation would be what commercial space flight currently is (i.e. extremely high-cost tickets for a unique experience).
However as a tall person, I hate the move to smaller seats and less legroom. There is no reason a seat on a short/medium haul Q400 turboprop should be more comfortable than on a state of the art jet.
The 767 is an all-time favorite for me. Always a great ride. I esp. like the 2-3-2 layout in Economy.
The 767s are undergoing maintenance here at YHM, so excited to see them re-enter passenger service!
As an adult, I've flown virtually exclusively on 737s and A320s. Pre-pandemic, one time flying with Air Canada I got a 767. I couldn't believe how spacious the cabin and seats were. Best flight of my adult life.
My dad worked on these planes 25+ years ago for AC. They are very old, but I guess they can’t get enough new or used planes
While at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, I actually saw the stored 767s! Wait, am I lucky?
I am a volunteer there and see them over at KF Aviation every Thursday. I assumed they were making them into freighters since there are allot of these in Hamilton. I flew on a Rouge 767 to Berlin … not a luxury liner, but a decent ride. Always have been a fan of these and the 757 as well.
it's not uncommon to see some strange aircraft at YHM, did you see the 737-400, 727 and engineless A321NEO on the ramp?
Smoothest landing I ever experienced was a 767 in San Diego, which I attribute to the front mains being lower than the rear.
They've been sitting on the tarmac in Hamilton and never went to the desert for long-term storage? It's a no-brainer then. I mean, how easy is that! Probably these two were also destined for freighter conversion, so now that's on hold. Too bad they only have two to put back into passenger service.
767s come back !!!! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
This year I got a tour of YHM and got some pics beside these planes. So fire
Love the 767. Always loved the configuration in economy, and certain airlines had this little economy section of about 35 seats - was very private feeling.
So much room for economy.
Flew on one before COVID from Venice to Toronto.
Also felt like premium economy seats.
Yup, in Canadian colors. I miss that airline. That would be an interesting topic. The History of airline liveries.
I fly on them a lot currently at my cargo airline. Can’t get enough of the CF6’s and the views from the flight deck are unmatched compared to sitting in a passenger cabin. Maybe I will book a flight on one of them if the price is right but for now I will stay on board the freighters.
I love the 767s
My thoughts about air Canada returning 2 767’s to its fleet is awesome
This is great! More 767 opportunities are always welcome. I kind of think American Airlines should bring back their A330’s, retiring them early was a big mistake and it ruined their international network.
I’ve always had a soft spot for the B767. The 2-3-2 created an intimate, wide body, flying experience!
Used to fly on them from YYZ- TLV and from YUL-TLV
great plane. This year flew with Austrian YUL-VIE same 767-300
Was on that Austrian flight in reverse just two weeks ago. Great flight
nice for them to come back after having taken multiple Japanese 767 myself. Sadly they won’t be coming to my large western Canadian city anytime soon.
Took one of these back in the day from Vancouver(YVR)-Maui, Hawaii(OGG)
I flew on a 767-300 first class before, and I liked it.
Business class
Quite astonishing really, thirty four years old. In another age, it would be like an airline reintroducing the Ford Trimotor for passenger service, just as the B707 was being introduced...........
Except that aviation is more evolutionary than revolutionary now.
Still prefer the 767 over most other widebodies out there!
I never flew those jets but I did fly 767s between Heathrow and Lusaka in 2006 and 2007.
So you flew those jets...
@ChrisCokeRobinson not the ones in the video. They're Air Canada. I flew on British Airways ones.
@@eamonahern7495 Oooh those were some rare birds, having those RB211s
I've been on AC 676's, bot sure if it was either of these. The idea of having reserve capacity makes sense, as Canadians do not have a lot of options when spme flights experience technical problems.
One of Canadian Airlines’ 767s (just before their absorption by Air Canada) took me to Brasil and back, so it is entirely possible I rode on one or both of those birds currently in Hamilton.
I would love to see a Air Canada in the new livery I hope they add winglets
I bet Air Canada wishes that it could also use the cargo version of the 767s to fly passengers.
The flight would be boring.
Home here in Trinidad 🇹🇹 due to backlogs with the MAX 8s Caribbean Airlines has leased an ex Japan Airlines 737-800. It’s to help with passenger demand (reg. 9Y-TTL)
You guys destroyed Air Jamaica...smh... Airbus ftw..
Great news!
At least one of these dinosaurs flies over our house everyday... But Aeroflot don't have much choice! 😄
You could always rest assured that you’d be relatively comfortable in the 767 economy. Last month, I flew in both the 787 and 350. They were both very uncomfortable because most airlines stuff as many seats as possible in economy.
Good news. The 76 was a rocket. Flying to S. America on the 77, I hated arriving at Customs with 400 other passengers.
I flew AC 767 aircraft to Zurich, Seoul, Frankfurt and Las Vegas.
Had flown on Air Canada 767 across Atlantic and Pacific in the early 1990-s.
I shall be looking forward to seeing this/ flying on this in the future
does anyone have any guesses on what routes theyll be deployed?
Hopefully they fuel it correctly
Stupid argument.
the best damn plane ever built.
Definitely cheaper then wet -leasing OMNI. Can’t wait to work on em
WestJet tried to reuse some 767's not too long ago but soon took them out of service ?
Flew on the 767 with Air Canada Rouge to FLL. i think it was in 2015.
Flew transatlantic on these a few times. I never really liked them, mainly due to the terrible IFE. But if they put new cabins in, they should be perfectly fine.
Weren’t really rumours. It was confirmed a while ago
I think _everyone_ should bring 8-abreast planes back.
Would be nice. I flew YYC-YYZ and back this week on Air Canada on A321s and they definitely felt cramped. On both flights there were no empty seats to be seen. Wish airlines would take passenger comfort into account but they don’t as it’s the bean counters who drive these decisions unfortunately.
Wasn't a rumour. It was in their annual report LOL.
Tbh 767 is better than 787, 787 is one hell of a garbage plane made by Boeing, the 767 was made with pride.
Great aircraft...always loved flyng on it. Flew AC860 on the 767 many many times. Air Canada is moving their Max's to Rouge. Flew Rouge a nice few times now, mostly when AC mainline aircraft got switche dout. Not a fan of Rouge at all...i always avoid it at all costs. Even took a Porter flight recent just so I didn't get Rouged again. Rouge is definitely a second class airline and it is sad Air Canada maintains this substandard service of flying
Including the Gimli Glider?
It’s a good airplane. Too bad Big B didn’t continue a 757 either.
they saved money not continuing 757
@ so they say!
@@thetruthbehindplanes One of the great mistakes in aviation history. Boeing mistakenly put all its eggs in with the 737. By not having a 757NG, they lost business to Airbus. Look at the new variants of the A321- the A321neo and the A321XLR. Perfect 757 replacements. Both Delta and American bought A321s to replace their aging 757s. Yes, Delta does still have 757s. But they have A321s, as well.
well,a320 is eggs in one basket
Sad to see how boeing keeps shooting itself on the foot
A true workhorse, dated yet useful bird.
AC "Gotta do what you gotta do"
Good
Good thing they don't run a Taxi business,
we'd have to hail old Caprice Classics and Crown Vics again!
I wonder if Air Canada will also re-activate some of their older/smaller turbo props & small jets(CRJ 200) to serve the routes with lower demand. The plan of flying larger planes on less often on low demand routes doesn’t seem to be working. Smaller/size appropriate planes should be flown daily on low demand routes, bigger planes should be flown on the routes that have the necessary demand for them, they shouldn’t be flown infrequently on low demand routes.
Please leave those CRJs in the dump where they belong.
Looks like they're going to be used for YYZ to Las Vegas, Phoenix, MoBay
best Boeing ever made 2 3 2
If these are the ones with the cargo floors does that mean my head will be higher than the window when im sitting down
they are not, these were never converted. Originally flew for Canadian Airlines
Will they bring the Gimli Glider back? 😅
Gimli Glider was parted out long ago.
wouldn.t that be ironic!!!!
@Canleaf08 it did fly after the accident though. 🙂
We are so fucking back.
they are brining back 2 or 3 - this isnt even a rounding error on their books in terms of cost - they are stored and were intended to be reactivated in a case of high pax need - and my guess is the interiors are absolutely bottom-rent in terms of experience and quality of the hard product.
I flown them from YYZ to POS
Why bring back the "COVID plane" lack of ventilation.
Will they get refurbished interiors?
I’m guessing it depends on how long they will fly them for. They are already near retirement age so it depends on if Air Canada wants to or not.
We’ll be lucky if they vacuum it out after storage… my last experience flying with AC was 🤮
No, they're keeping the old comfortable seats, that unfortunately have the garbage IFE
Many, many times
Looking forward to AC bringing back the 767’s to mainline and possibly Rouge. Two is being reactivated in January but I have a strong feeling it’s going to be a lot more since the widebody aircraft deliveries are delayed. Looks like it’ll be 8-10 operating for mainline and Rouge
Wait what
Those who booked Signature Class on an international route would be very disappointed when they get onboard and see the old style herringbone seats where their feet would face the aisle when lying down! I'll do my best to avoid routes operated by these birds.
🤔Advantage: great spare parts disponible at lowest prices due brakes/Hydraulics/CF6 engines spare parts...etc etc. 787 have some flight crew qualifications than 767. Planes full paying, some cases Lufthansa A340, A330 in Air France, 777-200 in United...👍🏻👍🏻
Rouge YYZ - YYC in 2019…
I hate the 777 economy, 3-4-3 sardines
787 despite all the hype, seats even narrower.
Flown it several times. SICK of that aircraft. Wouldn’t fly it again. Air Canada is not what it used to be.
🤷🏼
Get airplane
If Boeing can re engine these planes it will blow everything out the water
No because the 787 was specifically made to replace this type.
no.its the same reason why a re engined spitfire wont win against a su 57.things age
@@maxgomez9459 Not exactly. The 787 is heavier and designed to fly much longer routes than the 767.
NOOO wtf are they doing??!!..smh ..I hope they keep them on their domestic routes..
Yeah I want a refund if I get put on that aircraft.
Flew them many times. Super safe! Except when hi-Jackers and an arab pilot whose nation refuses to admit he bought the plane down.
34 year old ? And I thought United were bad.
Clearly they have been reactivated due to slow Airbus/ Boeing deliveries.
and that explains all the 'boeing incidents' these days......old plane and poor maintaining airline
