In my own opinion, BTS became this big because of their humility. Their humble beginning is so inspiring. They never cared to show their flaws and imperfections.

You say there is no difference between other kpop idols and BTS but thinking about how manufactured these kpop idols are and how not manufactured BTS is, there is a huge difference. While other idols wait for their albums to be written and produced, BTS is working hard on their own album. They're genuine and write about what they feel in their songs which everyone can relate to. Yes some of us would have never knowm about them if their videos wasn't on UA-cam but again a lot of kpop idols' are but yet we chose BTS. There is something about BTS which differs them from other idols.
And I agree with you in this case of BTS not trying hard wanna be famous. They are genuinely passionate about what they do and all their hard work is paying off. Their success isn't just the BTS ARMY but BTS and their music as well

That is right... bottomline is, you have to be a genuine, honest and polite person to succeed in d online world. Personality does matters. It cannot be faked coz in d end it will come out and d on line community will leave you. If one put their true self out there and people love it, then that person or group really has that best quality. That is my boys- BTS. I bet the millions of followers around d world love them more when they are not wearing make up, when they are in their dorkiest mode, when they shed tears due to frustrations, disappointment, sadness or happiness-they show it all. They are their true selves out there not the manufactured and polished artists. When they put up their music and mvs, we cheered and go over them again and again coz we already know who they really are. That is why they are that succesful with their on line family-ARMY. They made us feel like we belong to each other. That secret is out then, but i dont know if it can be replicated. One has to be true to himself, to his music , to the world out there to make it. That is the difference.

i think its about their music authenticity. they have certain topics that not most of kpop artists do. thru lyrics, they can communicate with k-fans and international fans even in hangeul. being themselves, being goofy, loud and not afraid of showing their flaws is what people loves about them. showing their real personalities on and off stage makes fans feel their humbleness, thats why they received so much respect from others.

I think it's really interesting, how people try to find out why BTS is this popular. But why do they never consider asking their fans? We should know it the best, why we love them. Of course the points mentioned in here are all true. BTS are genuine, authentic and treat us like friends. Their media content is a way to connect with them on another level. But this is not the only reason we love them. There are stars out there sharing their life in the same way, but BTS affect a lot of people with their actual occupation... they are ARTISTS... they make music and we can relate to their music. They have beautiful messages in their music, which helps me to cope with life issues. And they put their own work and stories into their music. I love BTS as humans and as musicians.

Authenticity and interpersonal connection. Yes, I think that's right. But there's more. Its not just that we feel we know them ... and we see that we have meaningful, real-life things in common. Its not just that we feel that they are genuine human beings. Its also down to the fact that they are so incredibly personable and likeable. They let people in to their everyday lives, but we go there, because they're people that you want to spend time with.
I saw this documentary about the Beatles recently and there they were, in interviews, being their genuinely intelligent, witty, enthusiastic, very human selves. And, I thought, ok this looks familiar; a group of guys who know and like each other well ... who are even personable, and funny, as a group, because they're unique individuals who play off of each other so well.
Its all for nothing without the music ... but, if you put the music, together with that likeable quality and you've got an amazing combination that inspires devotion. We really want to see them succeed ... and are willing to work to help them do it, because we like the music ... and the people who are making it. Simple as that.

Hi fellow army! Hope you're having a j-hope-full day.
You said that there is more in BTS than just authenticity and interpersonal connection, but everything you said was actually around that. Their bright likeable personalities, shown up so spontaneously: authenticity. How they make songs and tell stories in such a good and relatable way, full of emotional depths and quality: interpersonal connection. It's all in there, I think there's basically not much lacking. I know it sounds too short and simple, but his analysis is pretty accurate if you look at what it means to be authentical and to connect so much with people. It's basically BTS :)

@@juliabookfan4700 Hey right back. ☺️ you're exactly right! But I've been thinking (yes it hurt :-) Perhaps we should add one more thing to make the magic three. Was it RM that reduced it down to sincerity and skill? So how about skill +sincerity/authenticity + interpersonal connection.
Actually, I really liked the talk. He's that rare person who can make complex things easier and then share it with people of all ages. I was really impressed that he was communicating so clearly to a diverse audience. Very cool.

lol spot the ARMY at 4:52
the ironic part about BigHit is that we are always asking for translations but we nearly never get them. The boys mainly post on twitter in korean, the BTS fancafe is a korean language website and BigHits Twitter only ever posts naver articles. So ARMY has to translate for eachother. The only way I know what BTS are doing is from following other ARMYs on twitter.
for a second I thought you were gonna mention the reciept BTS posted under pres. moons post. I remember we all thought it was the funniest thing when it happened. We all though "ahh we really cant take them anywhere".
I think I love BTS because they feel real. I trust them alot, and at some point their happiness became my happiness, so now im emotionally invested in seeing them succeed. Its weird to think about because I only joined twitter to look at song translations and fan theories. I never knew they were active there before joining.
Thank you for adding English Subtitles. I really appreciate it. It was a great speech :)
EDIT: you may have some ARMYs upset because you said they werent any different from other artists. Critically, BTS' music is damn good. You can look up their ratings on Pitchfork and other sites. I think most ARMYs dont like the idea that BTS is popular because of social media, mainly because most of us became active on social media because of BTS. I can only speak for myself, but I found their music videos on youtube, became a fan of their music and their intricate concepts and found out about their personalities a long time after I had become a big fan.

You say there's no difference between other artists and bts other than bts being genuine online and posting personal stuff but that makes no sense. How can a selfie get an album with MUSIC to #1 or get Mic drop a RIAA platinum certificate, Love yourself 'Answer', DNA and Fake Love Gold? Those are all musical achievements? I hate the narrative that bts are only where they are and have so many fans because they're active on SNS. A lot of other idols have sns accounts, live streams and so on, but nobody are buying their music the waay Armys are buying bts' music. So let me tell you the real simple reason bts are so popular: it's their genuine music with amazing messages. Them being amazing dancers with good choreo, posting on sns and vlive is a part of it but not the biggest reason.

When a Sebashi translation contributor finishes the subtitling their name and email address appear at the end of the video but there's no name or contact details here so someone has randomly made the subtitles and done a hatchet job of it. We put a lot of time and work into the translation, editing and syncing and it's disappointing to see that the original has disappeared.
