Melanie played at a music festival near my hometown in the early 2000s. She was the only act I wanted to see out of the entire lineup. Unfortunately, rain cancelled her performance before she ever got on stage. I never got an opportunity to see her perform after that. Her music and those like her were staples in my house when I was growing up, my parents having been born in the 50s and raised through the 60s and 70s... Is it weird to feel nostalgia for something you didn't live through?
Both of my folks are dead now also. Music like this keeps me connected to them.

6.02am in Melbourne and l am right here to learn about Melanie! She had such an emotional voice and was such a beauty. And she was funny! I loved the reworking of Brand New Key into Combine Harvester, she wasn’t afraid to take the mickey out of herself. I loved her style too. Only halfway through as l write this, you’ve really captured her spirit. Thank you!🤗

Glad you mentioned her album "Photograph", her finest album by far, it's the one I play the most. Cheers

It seems like I've loved Melanie forever. She was a bit younger than me, and I'm saddened that I didn't go first. Though Linda Ronstadt made the song, "Long, Long Time" her own, it didn't touch me as deeply as Melanie's version - it ripped my heart out, it's so powerful, which I recommend to all. Melanie was the ideal hippie chick, brilliant and beautiful. RIP, beloved.

Her death made me tearful as I renewed my relationship with one of clearest portrayers of our 1960s ideals.
