    Got same one for my birthday. I will say this. IT WORKS. I don't have good ventilation so, I had to put it outside on an aluminum table. I like mine dark roast took about 30 min. Saw how much they are on amazone around 80.00 USA. A lot nicer price then $300 to $500 which I can't afford. Thank you again for the vid.

    you helped inspire me to get a similar roaster from Amazon, the Barwell (tho it's rebranded as something else) .. just did my first two roasts with some grower direct Brazilian beans. did a dark roast in 15mins, and then a second batch for medium/city roast in 11mins .. I knew what to watch for thanks to your demonstrations here. thank you!

      @@AjusCafe both were only 250g. The roaster says it is 750g maximum but I think like you said, 250g is a good amount. Might push it to 300 or 350g to test tho.

    Excellent video. I've been roasting with exact same machine once a week for 6 weeks so my comments:
    I roast organic Swiss water decaf so no shaft but also hard to hear any crack. Therefore I've partly been judging based on eating some near the end of the roast to make sure they are soft and not burned. Some of my early roasts beans were hard to chew. I believe this was because my initial heat was too high. I saw you start at 2:40 even though the book said 140 and wonder if you have adjusted that yet? I do roughly 190C for 12 minutes then 220C for another 15 minutes.
    From videos of other machines I believe that these low arms are better at keeping beans from being exposed to the plate for too long. These flat arms cause beans to tumble over them while the long high arms just push the bottom beans along the plate so I think this is a better design.
    Agree with you on the 250 mg. But easier for me, I found that is one and a half cups (12 oz) in a measuring cup so I don't have to weigh each time.

      Thanks for your feedback. I prefer to start at Max temperature, even though manual says lower. Here are the reasons
      1. 240 is not really 240. If you' have a thermometer, use that and you will be surprised how low the temperature is
      2. This unit won't heat up more than 165C.
      3. Any time above 20 minutes is too long to Roast coffee beans. You won't get those flavors

      @@AjusCafe Thanks, I will try 240 - preheated - from the start when I roast this weekend and post again my result. Yes, it's taking 25 minutes to get to a bean that's easy to chew. (I don't detect crack phases, maybe because decaf, so I stop when beans are easy to bite and chew.)

    • @AjusCafe
      @AjusCafe  2 роки тому +2

      @@kimandjennifer Even Decaf beans should go through 1st and 2nd crack. That's exactly my point. It's hard to get even 1st crack. For that you need at least 375F range which you won't reach in this machine unfortunately.

    • @kimandjennifer
      @kimandjennifer 2 роки тому

      @@AjusCafe Ok, roasted at knob-max 240C preheated. Brought roast time from 25 minutes to 16 minutes. GreaT result. I hear cracking, but nothing of a frequency that I could define as a "phase." So I agree, the problem is these don't get the beans to ideal cracking temp.
      Thanks for your tip. As a result, my roasts will taste a bit better while saving time each weekend too. (I roast two 12-oz, beans from different countries for comparison. That gives me the week of French Press, with some to spare.)

      @@AjusCafe Interesting that you aren't getting above 165C. I measured mine getting to 240C on the plate. Perhaps this is the reason my roast turned out very good.

    Can't the temp be lowered on the skillet and increasing the time to prevent the scorching that happens ?

    I've noticed that on amazon there are 500g, and 750g versions of this machine. But my hunch is that it is actually the same exact machine, same size, and just a different listing with a different weight given in the name.
    Looking forward to finding out how well these work, I have a 500g on the way to arrive tonight.

    • @AjusCafe
      @AjusCafe  2 роки тому +1

      They both work more or less the same. See my reviews on both 500 and 750g roasters. They don't really reach high temperature enough to go through 2 cracks. Anyway let me know how yours go

    • @AjusCafe
      @AjusCafe  2 роки тому

      @@thedillestpickle i didn't mean to discourage you in any way, but from my Roasting experience, to get the right flavors out, the guided Roasting time is 10 -15 minutes for Medium. Anything that takes quicker longer won't be a perfect roast. Also your beans temperature should reach 420F minimum. See if your machine achieves these 2 parameters in sync. If not, you may still get Medium looking roast, but that will be baked, than roasted. Taste different though. But I'm trying to give you some guidelines. I know many use this without any complaints. But question to ask is, am I getting all the flavors out, what they listed. Do cupping and see. I'll be interested to hear your feedback too. Thanks

    • @thedillestpickle

      @@AjusCafe Wow it turned out amazing. I think my beans only got to around 400F as measured with an IR gun, but I also didn't have it on the maximum setting, and I didn't record time but being that I used lower settings I imagine it was closer to 20 minutes.
      I think a lot of the success has to do with the beans I'm using. They are Ethiopian Natural from Hambela Wamena Woreda.
      I still have the second half of the bag, so I will try getting to temperature faster on the next roast. Although I would worry that scorching may become more likely with hotter settings.
      Thanks for the guidelines and information!

    HIGH ..that's why you got more smoke than usual ( burning sugar ) & why you had the lid off half the time you Got Bar B B-Que going on . Dark roast is done at 430 - 450 degrees Fahrenheit look at your Celsius you at 500 degrees Fahrenheit !
