  • Kenda and I hiked along the Fiery Gizzard Trail to Sycamore Falls. The water levels were low but that was okay. The Gizzard is always a rejuvenating joy to hike. The Fiery Gizzard Trail in Tracy City, TN has been ranked among the top 25 backpacking trails in the U.S. by Backpacker Magazine.

Thank you very much, Roger. In this video, I deliberately went for shorter video clips. That seems to be what the more popular videos feature. Now, I have been on UA-cam for a very long time (this is my fourth channel) and I don't care as much anymore about hits or number of subscribers but, you know, I would still like to make a video that is watchable and hopefully someone can enjoy it. I really just want a record of things that are a pleasure to me and these hikes are certainly that.

Thank you, Nathan. Hey, I miss you being out there and making those backpacking videos. I think your videography skills have really taken off to new heights. amazing. Just a brief comment about the New York trip video; A guy at work brought some of those good candy/bad candy things and, I kid you not, this guy got one of the bad ones and literally almost threw up on the spot.

I was fortunate to not get a really bad one. But my kids were not so lucky!

Hi! My husband and I have been watching some of your videos, and they are making us really excited for our trip to Tennessee in a couple weeks! We are camping at Fall Creek Falls state park for about 8 days. We are trying to decide on some day trips to the South Cumberland area. We are from Ohio so don't have much knowledge of these areas, but we think we want to do two day trips to this area. We were thinking of doing one day trip to the stone door area, hiking down to the stone door, to Big Creek Rim Trail, then down to Greeter Falls and up the Laurel Trail back out. For our second trip we were thinking of going down to the Grundy Day Loop, hiking down to Sycamore Falls in this video, then back out, then swinging back up by car to the Savage Gulf Ranger area and doing the Savage Day Loop. Do you think this is a good plan? We want to see what the area has to offer, but also want to have time to explore Fall Creek Falls! Any other trails you guys would recommend?

Hello Ashley. Thank you for your comments and I am hoping that you and your husband will have a great time on your visit. I think you will really enjoy Fall Creek Falls. Your first trip to South Cumberland (Stone Door/Big Creek Rim/Greeter Falls/Laurel) would be a nice hike and I think you are going to especially like the Stone Door and Greeter Falls. Your second trip (Grundy Forest Day Loop/Savage Day Loop) would also be a very nice hike. I would mention that you could also drive to the other end of the Fiery Gizzard Trail and do the Climbers Loop Trail which offers a waterfall of around 70 feet in height. Insofar as other hikes is concerned for some future trips perhaps? I would recommend the Virgin Falls hike. Also in the same general vicinity I would recommend trips to Cummins Falls, Burgess Falls, and Twin Falls at Rock Island State Park. I also love the hike at Laurel Snow Pocket Wilderness near Dayton, TN. Another very popular place is Big South Fork on the TN/KY border. You may wish to check out the videos from a UA-cam friend of mine, Aerial Hiking for videos on many other hikes in the area. He uses a drone and has some amazing footage.

TheSunkenGrave Thank you so much for your quick and detailed reply! I wish we had like a month to spend down there, everything looks so awesome! When I was a kid my family took a vacation to Tennessee and we went to Chattanooga, and did a lot of the Civil War battlegrounds and stuff, and the Incline. We took a day hike to Fall Creek Falls and hiked to the main falls, and some others, but I fell in love with it even as a kid and can't wait to go for a proper trip! We did do a quick visit to Rock Island, but most of the falls were dry, and we couldn't stay long. At first when we were planning we were going to use our day trips to visit Rock Island, and I also checked out Burgess and Cummins. But then I discovered South Cumberland and it looks so beautiful that I scrapped all other plans to focus on that area! We definitely plan on coming back so maybe next time! We are from Cincinnati so a trip to Big South Fork wouldn't be too far for us at all. Have you guys ever made the trip up to Red River Gorge? I feel like you would enjoy it! Thanks for the recommendation on the Aerial videos, we actually have been watching those too! I love UA-cam for this kind of stuff! How is the hike you mentioned down to the Climber's Loop? I was reading that there is like a straight up and down descent with some scrambling on that side. Is that accurate? It's hard trying to piece all of this stuff together when you're not from the area! Thanks again so much for replying, and I look forward to more of your videos!

Hello Ashley. I have watched many videos from the Red River Gorge and it looks very inviting. Due to work and home obligations at present I do not nor have not done much hiking lately. I have a video titled "Lessons From The Trail" which is the Climbers Loop trail. It is about a two mile loop hike. I do not think it is that difficult but my girlfriend thought otherwise in the video. It does have some steep and rocky portions. It is called the Climbers Loop because it offers a large escarpment of cliffs which attract rock climbers from all over. I am happy to answer any questions you may have to the best of my ability and knowledge. One reason I suggested Aerial Hiking was because I think he makes good videos but also has hiked quite a few more places than myself.
