The very first time the hero shows good will to the villain, he magically becomes a good guy from then on. I don't think Thadeus is a ghoul, that's not how it works ...I think he was given a form of FEV (Forced Evolutionary Virus) which may turn him into a super mutant.
Its a good misdirection, because none of the characters know about FEV. Here's my reasoning: the guy claimed to be a scientist, he immediately recognized the fusion core, and he didn't mix the stuff he put in the inhaler...it was already in a bottle in his case. The biggest ones though are the most simple--ghouls aren't made by taking anything, and most importantly, they don't regenerate. Super mutants do. If ghouls regenerated, there wouldn't have been a need to sew on Lucy's finger, and a single pistol shot wouldn't kill a feral at the Super Duper Mart. Plus Thaddeus will make a hilarious super mutant!
To be fair there have been those exposed to FEV who turned into ghouls like Harold and Tallus from Vault 13 so its not impossible. But yes, he's most likely turning into a Super Mutant.
Three separate f-bombs that weren't defused... That's an appropriate level of surprise for this episode. Even has that one line I'm intentionally leaving vague that hits particularly different on rewatch.
I don't think Thadius is going to be a Ghoul, he's going to be something much worse. I think you might enjoy the Netflix Series, Fall of the House Usher. and Amazon's anthology series Secret Level.
The title cards harken back to the silent film era when you literally had to be told what something was off screen or rely on the piano player to set the tone. Fred Armisen- “Critics” line was epic ❤
6:00 In Thaddeus's defence, he has a mission of supposed vital importance to get the head back to the Brotherhood. But his foot has been severely smooshed, the 404 (the dog) is not only slowing him down but also drawing unwanted attention by constantly yanking at the bag (with the head), and that's before 404 tried nibbling on Thaddeus's aforementioned smooshed foot. 😂😂
Not sure if you caught it, but the scientists in the Vault 4 log were the same happy couple from the commercial at the beginning of the previous episode.
14:57 Wow you're the 1st reaction to Fallout video that knew who that was. Most people don't recognize him when he's not in his blue makeup. He's my favorite member of the Blue Man Group
Non-spoiler, but based on gameplay, I don’t think Thad is a ghoul. The inhaler he used is used for a lot of different meds. (We saw a raider use an inhaler in ep 1, likely using jet or another combat-enhancing med) Thad may have taken the healing mutation, as seen in fallout 76. It constantly heals you at a moderate rate. Chicken-lover might have mixed in something to resist radiation… the healing mutation does not address radiation, just injuries. I’m looking forward to maybe finding out more about Thad’s condition, and if it keeps accurate to the games. The show invented the inhaler that keeps ghouls from going feral.. in the games, going feral has unclear causes… human/mutant/feral/dead seems to rely on total radiation exposure, speed and strength of exposure, and time.
The mechanics for playable ghouls in 76 hint that drugs keep them from going feral. You take drugs , any kind, to reduce your feral meter. Which would explain why pretty much every ghoul you meet is on drugs.
17:43 YES! that's the essence of fallout. it's a treasure trove of dark humor. the games ha e been like this since the first one. they cranked the humor way up for fallout 2 then when Bethesda continued it they seemed to kind of straddle the line more between serious story and humor.
Something that is strongly hinted at and you'd only catch if you're REALLY into the Fallout lore is what Thaddeus was injected with. Let's just say that if the theories are right, he's gonna be feeling super before long.
@ it’s not a thought about me thinking one way of the other, but commentary. If you know the character you’ll know that he is a father, and despite all the things we saw him do throughout the series, he as a father would not go as far as eating someone’s daughter, cuz he himself has one. At least that’s how I view the character, the first time I saw that scene, the thought of him eating that girl never crossed my mind. How did you interpreted the whole thing?
@ The reason people think he ate the girl is because they already established that he eats people sometimes. That's why the scene works and the majority of the audience thinks what Erik Estrada's character thinks. He then murders the girl's brother in front of her and her father after already killing her other brother. You have absolutely no idea if he would go so far as to eat someone's daughter. Estrada's character clearly knows him and he thinks he's capable of it. Very strange and narrow definition of what makes someone a monster you've got there.
@@davebcf1231 like I said, I’m not thinking one way or the other, and not defining anything either so don’t assume things if you don’t get the point of what I said. In movies and shows there’s something called “show don’t tell”, if he’s capable of doing what you said, why he didn’t ate the kid then? Yes, it’s established he has the cannibal perk, but I wouldn’t assume he would eat a kid just because of it. And yes, he did shoot the other son, but it was in self defense and as our hostess later pointed out, he showed remorse, which also tells me he wouldn’t eat someone’s daughter. If you think he could do that and not being able to draw a line somewhere, well that says a lot about you, enjoy your day
@ Your comment makes no sense whatsoever. Just because someone is capable of doing something that doesn't mean they always do that thing. By your logic why doesn't he shoot everyone he comes across? We know he's capable of it. We've seen him do it. You keep saying you're not thinking one way or the other while arguing one way, which is also nonsensical. You claimed he's not a monster because he's a father. I pointed out the two aren't mutually exclusive. What part of that is confusing to you?
When you've done with Fallout, you should consider doing WandaVision (I didn't see it in your Playlists) and then Agatha all Along. Along with The Last of Us, these 4 long form miniseries are the top tier teleplays of the last few years.
The connection nobody seems to make at this point: The "doctor" with the ghoul elixir is a ghoul himself..."A feral ghoul can't abide a chicken" has a whole different meaning.

I think you might enjoy the Netflix Series, Fall of the House Usher. and Amazon's anthology series Secret Level.
Can never go wrong with a Flanagan reaction
Your insights on mood, music, how the shots are made are very interesting.
Wait I might be wrong but don’t we find the dog in fallout four in a gas station like that? Were he left him?
His name is Dog meat.
The title cards harken back to the silent film era when you literally had to be told what something was off screen or rely on the piano player to set the tone. Fred Armisen- “Critics” line was epic ❤
They're not hunting for caps, they're lead farming. Looking for fired projectiles, bullets.
No, it's caps - the dead brother is the one who provided the caps to pay for the Drs safe transport.
and also nipped at his foot!
Jacqui doing a doctor who reference. Next thing we know she will be saying "hey who turned out the lights"
Also - never apologize for laughter. Laughter is the appropriate response!
Not sure if you caught it, but the scientists in the Vault 4 log were the same happy couple from the commercial at the beginning of the previous episode.
I loved the Dr Who reference, "are you my mummy?".
I love the Vault 4 twist. They could work on being a little less suspicious-seeming, though.
(We saw a raider use an inhaler in ep 1, likely using jet or another combat-enhancing med)
Thad may have taken the healing mutation, as seen in fallout 76.
That fiddle music for the ending credits thou :)
Goodbye, Goosey!
That dad in the beginning was Eric Estrada from CHiPS1 He was huge in the 70s.
Excellent performance and casting of Jerry from Rick and Morty as the one eyed overseer
17:43 YES! that's the essence of fallout. it's a treasure trove of dark humor. the games ha e been like this since the first one. they cranked the humor way up for fallout 2 then when Bethesda continued it they seemed to kind of straddle the line more between serious story and humor.
The cliffhanger....Both love and hate it. lol.
I figured that you would appreciate the subverted expectations set up in Vault 4. Enjoy the finale.
This episode unironically makes me want to see Eric Estrada do more acting.
I'd like to point out that that "innocent man" was hunting her with a harpoon gun
He was hunting *something* with a harpoon gun. For all he knew, an experiment (gulper) could've gotten loose.
Hunting an intruder or an experiment in a place she was specifically told multiple times not to go to
8:38 - as they say, "put a pin in that..."
Something that is strongly hinted at and you'd only catch if you're REALLY into the Fallout lore is what Thaddeus was injected with. Let's just say that if the theories are right, he's gonna be feeling super before long.
And I think we did see the hand of one in episode 2. Perhaps an earlier patient.
Are they still around?
I thought they got exterminated at some point.
Nice Dr Who callback!
The start is very reminiscent of the start of the good the bad and the ugly.
Why people keep thinking he ate the girl on the opening of this episode? 😂 he’s not a monster, he’s a father
Not sure why you'd think those two things are mutually exclusive.
Not the popcorn and Nuka Cola!
Nice Dr. Who eeference. CHIPS 'California Highway Patrol' is on hard times in this episode.
When you've done with Fallout, you should consider doing WandaVision (I didn't see it in your Playlists) and then Agatha all Along. Along with The Last of Us, these 4 long form miniseries are the top tier teleplays of the last few years.
Wouldn't a long form miniseries just be a series?
15:32 so true
Love your reaction to thaddeus getting shot is the same as Lucy's.
How did I miss the heads kissing in the original show.
I'd like to point out that he shot the kid in the left shoulder. So maybe not dead?
Great react 🎉🎉
Hehehehehh, Dr Who reference
no spoiler but he isn't a ghoul. rumour are leaning more towards super mutant.
Oh here we go...a comment thread
Banishment to.... the.... surface.... plus all these supplies....
I can't wait for your reaction to the final episode.
Glad you are watching it now right after this episode.
Oh dogmeat everyone loves dogmeat
Dog meat is Good Dog!
9:46
Pobody's nerfect.
Mi scusi, but who is Fred Armisen? 😛
Watching this right now, just in case.
The connection nobody seems to make at this point: The "doctor" with the ghoul elixir is a ghoul himself..."A feral ghoul can't abide a chicken" has a whole different meaning.
Do you not feel pangs of guilt over misjudging vault 4 so badly?
You need to get into Severance now that you’re done with this. I’m not saying this because I need to you watch it. I’m saying this because having followed you for a while now and knowing what your general background and interests are, you need to watch Severance for you. I also think it’ll be good content because there will be insight that you’ll be able to provide that other reactors likely can’t.
Just changed jobs so can’t afford a new Patreon subscription right now, but I’m probably about to go see if there’s a chance you already did it off UA-cam, or if there are polls or anything.
Edit: oh good, it’s already on your [edited edit:] radar.
The constant repetitive violins were in Fallout 4 and were not exactly fan favorites.
2:34 you seem not to like california, maybe you are not from california i guess 😂
Those thumbnails look ridiculous, try closing that flytrap.
Oh wow I'm early
"When you think of the American dream you think of California" HAHAHAHA... No...
