What was forgotten to history is the Japanese didn't end the war because of the fire bombings or both atomic bombs. The Soviets broke their non-aggression pact and invaded Mongolia, Manchuko and Korea. The Japanese had a history with the Russians and they felt they would get a better deal dealing with the US then with the Soviets. They also feared what happened to Korea and Vietnam after the war and you would have a Communist North and a Republic South.

@@GooseGumlizzard The difference with Germany is their leader was dead by the end of the war. When it came to Japan their emperor was still in office. And for all appearances was running things until the war was over. And they were forced to surrender. But keeping the emperor in power at least for the public's perception. Allowed the transition and rebuilding of Japan to go much smoother. Those are the two major differences in my humble opinion. Between the building and rebuilding of each country. And Japan is such a vital and has been for decades Ally in Asia. Europe is a different ball game when it comes to that. Seems to be whatever country is the flavor of the month year or decade. Do they find the want need and desire to be our number one Ally. Japan is definitely our number one Ally in Asia today and has been for some time. Have a great day.

"This is propaganda!" No shit Sherlock. This was intended for the 10's of thousands of American families who lost loved ones due to Japanese aggression and wondered why the hell were we spending billions in rebuilding this country. Why don't you ask the Japanese, Germans or Italians whether they would rather be occupied by the Soviets.

LittleVillage24 Umm, the Germans were occupied by the Soviets. The strongest Russian satellite economy behind the Iron Curtain was East Germany. Weird how after the Americans and Russians re-built the countries on their respective side of the Iron Curtain, the Germans ended up on top. Maybe the other countries were held back by large remaining Jewish populations.

Without sounding arrogant and un sensitive to the horrific amount of death and pain WW2 brought the Japanese.. is it safe to say the the defeat of Japan by USA amd the USA influence after the war was the best thing to happen to Japan, it’s economy, standard of living and freedom of democracy and now being one or the world leading economies, they’re a huge advocate to free democratic way of life and up holding those freedoms and standing in alliance with the civilized democracies of the world!! It definitely sounds like after all the pain and suffering that was inflicted on Japan by its evil rulers in ww2 that there was definitely something very positive after the war!! One things the USA never gets enough credit for is things like this and the huge amount of money and recourses they put into Countries like Japan to make them into what they are today!! Japan, South Korea, Germany, Italy, Taiwan, Guam !! they never had to do that they could of just left and went home like most armies had done in history and let the people of the defeated nations suffer in there defeat but not they doudble down and rebuild there country and economy, introduce a free democracy and a way better standard of living!! So much hate is always through at them for recent failures like Afghanistan, Iraq amd Vietnam but look how many counties they saved and made them great democratic civilized nations!! I know with Germany and Italy they was a lot of help from other allied nations but the US was allows the leader and they do not get near enough credit for it!! Can you blame them for wanting to try turn Afghanistan into a modern day success like Japan and south korea!!?? not a bad punishment if you think about it the terrorist in Afghanistan attacked USA so we are gonna go in and wipe out all that evil and then dump money into your country and help turn it into a civilized democracy and it’s not like it hasn’t worked before amd it’s an amazing gift to give to people but unfortunately the culture in the middle east is soo steeped in tradition that it doesn’t seem like it ll ever work!! You need the people to want to live in a free democratic civilized nation like they said in this documentary the people of Japan even before the war where already infatuated with the west and the USA so after the war it was easy to get the people to want that way of life and look how amazing it’s done !! Same with south Korea, Germany, Italy they all wanted that way life and as amazing as our way of life is we need to accept that it just isnt for everyone and in some places like the middle east the tradition is very very deep and with all the wars the west doesn’t have a good reputation, they aren’t infatuated with our way of life and the only way to change that is to stop every war there, stop killing cause every father and mother killed creates a new son, cousin, brother and sister that hate the west even if it was an accident and you where try to do good!! You need to stop and win the people over and only get involved when asked and obviously for the right reasons. But even with that parts of then middle east are just what they are and will always be it seems

+Rubin Pelecanidae And you are cynical at its most obvious. I think this is pretty spot on, considering how much money the United States paid to rebuild a nation that had once waged war on us. Or do your PC sensibilities give the poor little yellow people (c'mon, admit it to yourself, that is how you see the whole of this area of Asia) a pass on being expansionist?
The Japanese had been battling since the early 1930s, beginning in Manchuria (Manchukuo as the Japanese named it), had bled their nation of blood and treasure, and their economy, infrastructure, and spirit lay waste.
The Japanese wanted democracy- heretofore a rather alien concept, and new-but they wanted the boons it would deliver. But you seem to think, the latte-sipping Prog cynic, that you know what would have been best for Japan and America, after five years of war against the other?! Your historical understanding pales only to your smugness.

      Hey man!
Nope, I am not interested in discrediting or insulting you, you seem to presume a lot about me without (I hope) actually knowing much about me.
I'm just interested in history and discussion. I have an opinion as much as you do and sure I believe that possibly where we are from may in part dictate our viewpoint.
I would have found your original reply thought provoking but your angry presumptuous response kind of makes me disregard most of your information, which is a shame. Now I just wonder why someone decides to be so defensive, and offensive, over what I believe (wrongly or rightly but I do have the right to an opinion) is a fair comment about propaganda techniques in a time where it was rife and where also America was making massive power plays.
Having been born in the 80's perhaps I have grown up in world where due to the western world events I have witnessed I am, you're right, cynical of the idea that a country like America has purely another countries well being at heart. But I don't come to those personal conclusions for no reason. I have an interest in History and like to learn about it from peoples opinions and writing so I can make my own and try not judge others. I am sure your opinion is valid, but I believe this help america provided was not pure and I believe this video has ulterior motive based on the history I have experienced and read about.
Thanks for the discussion once more and sorry you were offended! UK resident.

The locking away of books might be the biggest load of crap on here.
Also, how women are equal to men.
Japan is a fairly masculine culture.

In Japan, the woman rules the household. Even executives of corporations hand over the banking to their wives and get a monthly allowance like a 15 year old teenager. The woman makes all the major decisions regarding the kids' education, big ticket purchases like houses, cars, appliances etc. as well as where they will go for their vacations. Men are tasked with slaving away in the rat race to bring home the bacon for the Queen Bee. No, women are NOT equal to men in Japan...They're superior.
