- Is A Stay At Home Mom A Foolish Woman? The answer is yes, some are. But allow me to explain, I promise you won't be sorry. For decades the women’s liberation movement would have us to believe being a stay at home mom, or a stay at home wife, was a foolish decision. But now we have the pendulum swinging to the opposite spectrum. Women are learning that there are things we can do to build strong marriages. We are learning that our children actually do need us, and that being home is not degrading but rather, quite nice. So wives and mothers are returning to home in droves. Is this wise, or is it foolish like the media and women’s liberation feminists tell us it is? Find out in today's video!

SALMON RECIPE
I don't have the salmon recipe as a printable on the blog yet, but here is the recipe;
juice of 2 lemons, 2 to 3 tablespoons capers, fennel fronds or dill (minced), minced garlic, minced anchovies. You can sub orange juice for the lime juice.
Bake the salmon with chopped fennel for fennel essence. Discard the fennel cooked with salmon before serving.

I used to worry about retirement, and money matters when I started staying at home. The things I’ve learned to do, my accomplishments are worth more than money, and my husband tells me he can’t do what he does without me doing what I do. I worked when I was younger. I hated it. I was stressed out daily. I’m happy and thriving at home. I think women should decide for themselves, or they won’t be content. Love your channel and your kitchen is awesome!
That is wonderful he is able to make enough and continue working to provide so well! What a blessing!
Thank you Shayla. I have five kids with a big age spread - I think I’m the same age as you but my youngest is two. I am busy day and night and so everything to care for my husband, children and home. I know this is my calling and want to do it all my life - maybe care for grandkids too one day! I get shamed a lot, in this culture I am seen as useless and worthless (I live in the UK), especially as my husband is on a low wage so we are poor - this is seen as detriment to my children, to raise them poor, rather than see the riches they gain from having a devoted mother 24/7. Love your content xx
I've been both. A stay at home Momma and a working Momma and for a year a full time college student while working 32 hours plus having 4 kids at home while hubby worked too and was in the US Army Reserves. I used to do our laundry once a week and hung it up outside for 6 people. Cooked a lot from scratch.
Well, those days are behind me now. Kids are grown up with kids of their own. But I still hang up laundry outside as much as possible and cook from scratch, garden, forage, can, dehydrate, ferment and freeze all the goodies.
I've built my house up and have torn it down. Rebuilt my home and at times I catch myself tearing it down. Praise God we have His Holy Bible to get into and He corrects us by being blunt and telling us how to get back on track.
Good vlog.
Shayla you have inspired and motivated me more than I know how to express with words. I didn’t grow up with a stay at home mom, or a garden, or being homeschooled, so I am growing and learning so much in my early motherhood season. Thank you for everything you share, I have learned so much from you about how to be a proper stay at home mom. Also, love your planner- it has been a game changer! ❤
Seeing your husbands hard working hands at the end with the meal you made with yours is such a sweet testimony of provision and care of both of you!
I listened to every word. I am now a stay at home wife as children are grown. I love taking care of my home and doing all I can for my husband. And loving Jesus Christ.
Thank you for watching, Kim!
I just needed this encouragement today!!! ❤❤❤thank you ...."Progress in healing" those words spoke to me today! Slow steady pace...this is not a sprint!!! ❤
Shayla, these are my favorite videos ever. I really like to hear you talk about this, bc it's so needed. I dont believe in feminism, I think it's a cancer, yet it still shapes much of our society. I've been a stay at home mom, as well as a working mom, both for financial reasons as well as guilt... Its seems to me the older generation, let's say the baby boomers & a bit of gen x, put so much value on working, that Anyone w o a "real" job is a lazy leech on our system. When my kids were very small, I didnt catch much flack for being home, but as soon as they started school, the questions began. When are you going back to work? As if one's value is truly only found in how much our W2 is worth. My kids are now out of the house, but I'm still at home, not working a real job, but taking care of my husband. I often feel as if I should be working, especially bc I dont have kids to take care of. As if taking care if my house & my husband doesn't constitute a good enough reason to not be at work. I know in my heart I'm not wrong, but it's like it's so ingrained in my mind that I'm not doing enough. I hate that I feel this way, especially bc I don't live for this world & want nothing to do with it. I find it funny as well, that it seems to be generational, bc our grandmothers were never shamed for or expected to go to work after their kids left the house. Anyway, that's why I love your videos. You validate us & remind us that we are doing what the good Lord has called us to do. What a crazy world to believe that taking care of our own children is wrong. Thank you again for what you're doing, I so appreciate it. Things would've been different for us if we had someone like you telling us this 20 years ago, & I hope this helps the younger women starting out. Tbh, this message wouldnt just help the children, it would probably prevent 90% of divorces. May God bless you ❤ (also your dress is very pretty).
I spent 20 years in a high stress career and didn't have my son until I was 40. I always wanted children but didn't find a man who valued family until my late 30s. It never occurred to me that I could be a homemaker until I became pregnant. I now stay home with my one year old and intend to homeschool. Oh my did I not understand how much work is actually involved in homemaking! It is far more stressful than my two decade law enforcement career where I held a variety of positions. My mother was a working woman who eventually abandoned her younger children. Because of her I see how valuable stay at home mothers are. Your work in the home is just as important, and more so, than any overtime shift or late night callout I ever worked. You are doing the job of a housekeeper, a lawncare provider, and likely a handyman all rolled into one. When your children were little you were an educator and caretaker. The self doubt is common, but your worth is in being a disciple of our Lord first. You are right that we are not of this world and caring for your home and family glorifies God. Women who choose careers are also valuable, but family seems to be at the heart of everything God intended. It sounds like you are your husbands helpmate which is seemingly exactly the way God intended. I hope you have a wonderful day!
Thank you this was a breath of fresh air to a homemaker mom of 3 . I'm a 90s baby , raised by my grandma a 50s housewife and this world is not my home is completely accurate.
What an incredible reminder of who we should be as the “keeper of the home” 💕 THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
You are so welcome!

Sooo happy you appeared on my feed. I instantly loved your channel. Greetings from Massachusetts. 🥰💖💕 God brought you to me. 💜
Thank you! This wisdom is soooo needed today.
You are welcome! Thank you for watching!
Loved this type of video! ❤ Truly what I needed to hear today. I’m a young mom and wife and I have been learning so much wisdom through your videos.
Thank you, I'm so glad to hear that!
You spoke truth in so many aspects, thank you❤. I remember the line that says "where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom" and "the Truth will set you free". In all our decisions as godly women we have to keep checking if this draws us closer to rest in His freedom or if we feel like we are striving in the expectations of this world. This applies differently to every reborn daughter: You could feel free at home if it is a safe environment where you are provided for spiritually and physically. You could free at work outside if you are in an abusive marriage or simply in a season when you need to help more with providing financially. You could also just feel free both at home and at work outside because God has called to serve Him in both places (home being a priority though❤)
Let us be free from every yoke that hinders us from running the race to the end. In Jesus Loving Name. Amen❤
Thank you for sharing, these are very true points.
SooooSo good!!! Such biblical wisdom coming though the screen! Thank You
You are welcome, thank you for being here. 🥰
God bless your channel, the Holy Spirit came through and I’m so moved. I needed to hear this.
I just left my 16 years in a corporate career to became a SAHM and homeschool our 4 children in November.
It’s been a transition to say the least, for us all. I’m leaning on God more now than I ever have before. Thank you for this video. ❤
You are welcome! I hope this channel is a blessing to you in this new journey!
Really great reminder. Your voice is soothing, but more importantly full of wisdom and truth!

I love this video. I love the new videos you are doing.
Always love your videos and what you have to say. Keep up the great work and know you are amazing.
I love how you explained about how a wise woman builds her house.
Once my children were over 10, for several years, to earn a bit of income while homeschooling, I would nanny a child one full day per week in our home. That baby or young child was just like my own. If we had to go somewhere, they went with us. They ate with us. One weekend night per month (or occasionally more) I would babysit the three kiddos of that family at their home or ours. It was especially great to see their children grow up too and that the family trusted our family. It was a great arrangement.
Hi Shayla, it’s a privilege for me to follow you. Thank you for this video. I feel I’d like to contribute with my own experience: I had the opportunity to get a nursing degree and specialize in functional medicine. Now I have 3 kids and a part time job that allows me to treat women for all the life span and expecially fertility, based mainy on herbal medicine and aromatherapy, traditional nutrition. Fertility had flourished in my patients and I have a lot of ‘babies’ in spirit. Despite also being a homemaker I would not give up my job ever because I feel that as a woman I’m a better doctor for women. Feel blessed. ❤
Edit: I don’t know if ‘despite’ is correct but you know my first languages are Italian and Slovenian 😂
Thank you so much for sharing your story here, Elana!
Being a stay at home Mom is what I always wanted, but didn't get to do but for only 3 years. I went through a divorce because of an abusive husband and a few years later I married someone that had gone through a divorce because his wife cheated on him. So due to the money situation, I had to work. I never wanted a career. I've always wanted to take care of my home, garden, etc. All my children are grown now and I've about 4-5 years from being able to retire. I just pray I still have enough of my health so that I can still be able to garden. I feel like being able to be a stay at home Mom, investing in our children and family is a blessing.
I love baking cleaning and yes even cutting grass. Im 52 and i love this.
This may sound strange but I am a feminist/agnostic and I still love your videos and have been following for some time. I think that being feminist allows women to make choices, that’s what being a feminist is all about. I have stayed home most of my life as a homemaker, and then as a caretaker for my MIL. I am now back in the work force but I desperately miss being home and taking care of my home. I think women are taught to fear feminism, it’s used as a means of control and shame. They have us all fighting each other instead of being uplifting. It should be a choice to stay home, there’s so much benefit if it’s what you truly want to do. I was able to take care of my children and be there for ALL of their firsts. And I will never regret that! But… I did have friends whose husbands abandoned them and they had to pick up the pieces and provide for their children. That’s absolutely devastating. Sending love and I love your beautiful home!
I'm so glad to hear you find value in my videos, even with differing viewpoints on the world! I appreciated reading your perspective, thank you for being here!
Absolutely love cooking by candlelight…anything by candlelight! 🕯️
Thank you, Shayla. This is powerful. Modern feminism has been damaging but that it's manifesto is challenged now is an excellent thing.Praise God!❤Thank you...what a tasty and healthy meal 😊
Amen!!!!❤
❤❤❤ Great video!
I think where we women kinda gasp when we hear that the woman cared for home AND worked outside the home is we forget the fact that when this was written, the woman didn't have the home we have now! She didn't have 5 bedroom, 3 baths, garage, cars, etc to care for! LOL She was able to tend to what little she had ( even tho it was still hard work! ) then go tend to the vineyards. We have way too much stuff to "put our hands to" within the home. Nothing wrong with maximalism! Wait, I'm getting side tracked! I hope my comment makes sense.
That is true, but also there are seasons in motherhood, which I've talked about in some of my other videos. For example, the Proverbs 31 woman probably wasn't working much when she had toddlers, unless of course she had servants to watch them, which is a possibility.
Beautiful video with beautiful, kind, thoughtful and Biblical truths ❤
I'm so glad it resonated with you!
I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS VIDEO❤❤❤
I hope you enjoyed it!
